Course Description:

This course begins by introducing the basic components

in communication system. Students will have clear
understanding of analog and digital modulation, digital
transmission, noise in modulation system, noise analysis,
multiplexing and multiple access.

Course Objectives :

At the end of the course, students should be able:

1. Apply suitable basic principles of communication
systems and modulation method for solving the related
problems.
2.

Compare and contrast various modulations and

multiplexing techniques (both analog and digital).

3. Design/Evaluate appropriate technique applied in reallife communication system.
4. Analyze communication system performance for
example in terms of bandwidth efficiency and SNR.
5. Able to explain the mechanism involved for a reliable
end-to-end communication system.

6.

Able to design a communication system using

MATLAB.
Transferrable Skills

Students

are

required to work in a team on topics related to

communication systems. The students are expected to
design a

Matlab simulator

for the

communication

systems which includes transmitter and receiver module.
