BODY
Depending on the source, character may have a lot of meanings and
definition but they all share one thought. According to The Free Dictionary,
character

is

the combination of mental characteristics and behavior that distinguishes a perso

n or group. In a story, character can be defined as any person, animal, or figure
represented in a literary work . However, in this story, the main character known
as Jenny will be magnified and dissected in order to know her being better.
Jenny is a lady who has it all. Even though she has been married, she still
managed to keep ahead of herself, her business and her friends. Though her
husband may have shortcomings she still shows him how much she loves him
dearly. Because to think of it, being married for 3 years and not having a child
seems a bit off. And the thing is, she is able to bear a child. But she didnt let the
busyness of her husband ruin their relationship. She chose to engage herself to
her friends, parties and other things to fill her up. The ability to understand and
have such incredible patience shows how much she values their marriage. But
despite of her strong personality, a foolish deed made a big impact to her life. In
a short span of time, the thing she did reflected her inner corruption.
Jennys deed can be understood, if not completely excused, because of
the emptiness she had inside her. Although by appearance and physically, she is
envied by many. Her wealth, her charm, the family she came from, her status,
her stability with her husband and their marriage, her wit, her personality, her
talent in managing businesses, her friends and even the gifts she receives from
Paul whenever he comes home from business trips will make you really think that
she has it all. Since nobody really is perfect, the truth is beyond what anybody
could see. She may be strong and seem contented on the outside, but inside
nobody knew that she is dying with emptiness longing for the one that could

satisfy and fill her. She tried to fill herself up with the enjoyment together with her
friends and her work but those are just not enough to satisfy her needs and
desires. So Jenny couldnt really be fully blamed for being tempted. She showed
loyalty to her husband for such a long time and her loyalty was more revealed
when she admitted that she is already married when Stephen asked her personal
information. But human as we are, we too gets pulled by our fleshly desires and
needs. And just like Jenny, it is obvious that she didnt mean it and it was not
intentional at all. Her emptiness won over her and thought that Stephen could fill
her being that nobody else even her couldnt do. She got carried away by their
talks and their feelings that resulted to that action without even thinking what
could happen next.
It can also be blamed to Paul. If he just put Jenny as his priority, Jenny
shouldnt have developed her emptiness. Paul became too workaholic not even
thinking that her wife needs her too. He even thought that the gifts he gives to
Jenny is enough to make her that he is there. Paul looked at Jenny as his second
figure to his business which is damaging to Jennys part though its a good thing
that she didnt know thats how Paul looked at her often times or Jenny wouldve
been more shattered. Jenny became Pauls second priority instead of making her
the first in line no matter what thinking that they both made a commitment to
each other. He involved himself too much to his business not realizing that his
wife needs him. He lost his time for his wife in exchange for his work which led to
Jennys inner conflict. He didnt think that Jenny needs his time most than the
wealth he could ever give. Paul shouldve proved his love for Jenny by showing

her and making her feel loved. And because of Pauls foible, Jenny became
empty. She may be abundant outside but inside there is nothing to her. That
emptiness was supposed to be filled by Paul. It is Paul that she ever need. She
wants to bear a child as a result of their deep love to each other. But since Paul
is to busy, she was empty for their 3 years of marriage. She felt lonely despite of
her friends, her travels, and despite of Paul. The emptiness that she have been
carrying with, not even Paul noticing, made her do what she did. All of it because
she was empty. Stephen temporarily made her heart flicker making an illusion
that that man is the one who is alternatively able to fill her up instead of Paul.
Her emptiness seemed to fade when she did it with Stephen. Not realizing
that it was a mere illusion and that the feelings she felt was a lie. Morning came
and realization hit her. That her actions could make a big change and a lot of
things in different aspects of her life could be involved. She put the familys
reputation at shame knowing that she came from a highly respected family.
When every part of her family including Pauls would know about the tragic
incident two things could happen to her. It is either both of her family would
renounce her and refuse to acknowledge her as their daughter or they would be
able to forgive her. But thinking in a point of fact, it would take time for them to
forgive Jenny. Their first reaction would really be making Jenny out of their family.
Because it seems impossible that Jenny is able to commit such an act seeing her
became successful with a strong personality and a great relationship just by
looking at the surface of their marriage. But as a parent, through time they will
realize that Jenny is still their daughter and that denying Jenny is not the best

solution to solve the problem. But still, in the eyes of other people, especially to
their family friends, relatives, investors or company partners, Jenny would be
looked as indecent and immoral. And not only that, but Jenny would be
degrading her family as well. Her actions would also have impact on their
marriage. Saying that Paul would be able to know, it is not an assurance the he
could fully accept and forgive Jenny especially the child the she is bearing. The
way he looks at Jenny would change. He may look at Jenny as a sinful and filthy
woman knowing that he is a perfectionist. And this mistake of Jenny is just not
justifiable. Well, he may be able to forgive her, but the action that she did couldnt
be forgotten by Paul. It would create a gap upon their relationship and even the
way Paul treats her would change. It could be worse and colder. He may not be
able to love Jenny and accept the child fully because in his eyes, she is a
wrongdoer and the child she bore is a mistake. And it would be engraved to his
mind that that child isnt his but to the man that she made sin with. It could also
create insecurity upon Paul and inner corruption could develop to him as well.
But Jenny, would be the most affected by her action. Not only that after she did
that she still feel empty, but also the burden that she has to carry would be fully
loaded because she the only one who would be carrying it off. By doing that, she
put herself at risk. She would have sleepless nights just crying, having dreams of
the scenario, stress would be all over her, her self-worth would be devalued, the
guilt that she would feel could be endless. And all of these things could lead to
depression, trauma or a much bigger problem to her self. And all of these she
would be carrying while pregnant. Include the side effects of being pregnant like

morning sickness, nausea, and other discomforts a woman experience while

pregnant. She could also harm the baby inside her womb and feed it with
worries, stress, etc. With the loads she will be carrying as a result of her action,
could not only harm herself but also the baby inside her womb.
Victims trying to look for a safe place mirrors herself that just like them,
she wants to hide the reality and just run away from it to look for a safe place
where the problems that she is bearing does not exist. Sea water flooding her
with the pieces of debris are the problem that consumed and wounded her.
Jenny was settling herself on a rock near the precipice to view the overlooking
scenery. She was studying the horizon, looking at the surface of the crystalline
blue sea, and looking into the waves running one after another as they scattered
the foamy water as the waves splashed against the boulders in the seashore.
The rock that Jenny settled herself on symbolizes her stand in society and as
well as her personality. Like a rock she has a strong personality and she has a
great foundation upon the society. Considering the status that she is in, you could
say that she is stable. The precipice or the also known as cliff, symbolizes the
things that she lack inside. Just like a cliff it seems like her inside is hanging and
needs to be fulfilled. The horizon represents how beautiful her life is but just like
how a horizon changes, her life could also change so suddenly. The crystalline
blue sea reflects on how clear she sees herself. And the waves represents her.
Jenny running through her life heading for something until she splashed into a
boulder which symbolizes her obstacles and trials in life.

CONCLUSION
This story helps people open their mind about the problems that people
face. It also shows that problems come to everybody. It doesnt matter on how
strong, weak, rich or poor you are and often times we dont see it coming. Just

like in Jennys case, who would expect that she can commit such an act thinking
that by looking at her, one could say that she dont have anything to ask for
anymore because everything is upon her already. This teaches people that the
biggest problem one could carry is in the inside. Because once you carry an
inner problem, it is hard to find a solution. So it really is important to voice out
your problems so that you wouldnt have to carry it by yourself. Sometimes
getting a hand is not that bad. And that you should be careful on your actions and
we shouldnt think recklessly and foolishly for it could lead to a lifetime
destruction and burden just like what happened and will happen to Jenny due to
her deeds. We must not rely on mere feelings and we shouldnt let ourselves be
consumed by the burden we carry that we tend to create a bigger problem that
was not supposed to be there. We should be sensible at all times and we must
learn to control ourselves. We should think of the results and outcomes that
would happen before we do something. And instead of creating another problem
because you thought that it is the only way to solve that problem, we should think
of a solution that could solve the problem instead. A problem couldnt be solved
without deep meditation and asking guidance from God too. Because solutions
are supposed to remove the loads that we carry, not make it heavier.
In this story I have learned the value of setting your priorities. Because
sometimes, our priorities could affect others. People are more important than
anything else. Time that are lost cannot be rewind so we must use our time to
show people how much we love them by making them feel that they are loved. Of
course, we must be careful not to cause wounds to other people because the

wounds in the soul are the wounds that even time cant heal. I have learned that
we must know how to deal with the mistakes that we do and learn how to correct
it instead of staying there thinking why you did it. As I said, time cant be rewind.
The mistake has been done so as a counterattack, we must learn to correct and
make things back at track again. Regrets are always at the end. So we must do
something that we know that we wont regret after. But from that regrets, we
realize something, know the real us by the choices we have made in the past and
learn a lesson that could never be paid by any diamonds in the world.
