CourseDescription:
Thiscourseisdesignedtointroducethestudentstobasicmaterialssciencewithanemphasisonproperties
andhowtheyareinfluencedbythermalandmechanicaltreatments.Thestudentswillbeabletorelatethe
microstructureofamaterialtoitsproperties,andunderstandtheeffectsoftheenvironmentonmaterials
andthepossiblefailuremodesofstructures.Thestudentswillbeprovidedwithdemonstrationsofvarious
processesinvirtuallaboratory.

1. The students will understand how the internal structure of a material


(bothatthemicroandmacrolevels)controlsthemechanicalproperties.

permanent deformation in metals and how the ability to undergo slip
