Oscar, a startup health insurance company that

billed itself as a consumer-friendly option, will drop out
of New Jerseys Obamacare market beginning Jan. 1,
the companys chief executive officer said Tuesday.
Mario Schlosser, CEO and co-founder, said New Jersey and one of its other markets, Dallas-Fort Worth,
were facing uncertainties that would make it difficult
to compete. Its exit leaves three carriers in New Jerseys exchange for 2017.
We face the same challenging market dynamics as
do other companies some larger, some smaller,
Schlosser said in a blog posted on the companys website.
New York-based Oscar provided coverage for 24,560
customers in New Jersey, or 6.8 percent of the market,
according to the New Jersey Department of Banking
and Insurance.
Its departure comes as insurance companies nationwide operating in the Obamacare marketplaces have
been dropping out or raising premiums. The marketplace was created by the Patient Protection and AffordSee OBAMACARE, Page 5A

It was a summer party, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

style, Tuesday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
The first part of the show, the first of three at the stadium, was heavy
on Springsteens summer jams and hot numbers, delivered with a jazzy
Jersey attitude by The Boss.
In my 20s, the bars at the Jersey Shore used to stay open till 3 a.m.
3 a.m.! said Springsteen during the introduction for Something in the
Night.
A rollicking Sherry Darling kept up the theme, and then more
summertime music, Springsteen said. A passionate Spirit in the
Night, with tales of drinking warm beers next to a Jersey Greasy Lake,
perfectly framed the mood.
Mind you, summer can get a little crazy in Jersey. So what was next?

Fans wait in line for the Bruce Springsteen concert outside MetLife Stadium on Tuesday.

ASBURY PARK - Charles Patterson McKenna rested his hand on the arm of Andrew Gioulis as the two
walked from the beach into the frothy surf.
This was 42-year-old McKennas first time surfing,
and he would be doing it blind with the help of Gioulis, a
volunteer with Christian Surfers, a Manasquan-based
religious missionary organization.
Ive never surfed before, and Im thrilled for the opportunity today, he said.
In fact, McKenna, of Highland Park, has been blind
since he was 5 years old due to a condition called Stevens-Johnson syndrome. The condition can result in a
painful rash, blisters, shedding and death of parts of the
skin, as well as scarring of the eyes in severe cases like
McKennas, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Yet McKennas loss of sight has not stopped him
from leading a full life, he said. At attorney who is married with a 3-year-old son, McKenna also helps run the

The sale of the Sickelses home, at 88 McLaren St.
