The Fine Arts - Product Design program was institutionalized in

2005, first offered in 2006 and has been identified as University
of the Philippines Cebus niche in Central Visayas. The curricula
of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Product Design was last revised in
2011 in response to the digital development, approved by the
University of the Philippines Board of Regents (BOR) and implemented in the same year.
The UP Cebu Product Design curriculum responds to the rise of
the creative industry in the region, with their demand for graduates trained in furniture and jewelry design, home accessories,
gifts, on- and offline book and magazine publishing, web
design, digital gaming, fun gadgets, interface design for mobile
applications, etc. The creative industry is the number one emerging industry that provides employment opportunities for Product
Design graduates and is growing approximately at 14 per cent
per year in Cebu according to the World Intellectual Property
Organization (WIPO). The curriculum for the Bachelor of Fine
Arts in Product Design directs the students to specific tasks to be
learned (or problems to be solved) in the four streams of learning, namely: Techniques, Theory, Materials, and Technology to
maximize the learning outcomes in the fundamental and major
courses in Product Design.
