Dear Katie Arndt,

Congratulations! Based on the deep commitment to clinical practice in teacher education
demonstrated in your application, we invite you to become a 2016 Association of Teacher
Educators Clinical Fellow. If you accept this invitation, you will participate with a select group
of teacher educators from across the nation in a special one-day symposium on Saturday,
February 13, 2016, prior to the official start of the ATE conference. The symposium is by
invitation only and will bring together scholars from across the nation who share a passion for
putting clinical practice and boundary-spanning roles for university- and school-based
professionals at the center of all teacher education endeavors.
As a participant in the Clinical Fellows Symposium, you will experience:
A welcome and special recognition from ATE President Linda Houser and Clinical
Practice Fellows Co-Chairs Audra Parker, Seth Parsons, and Kristien Zenkov;
Activities to foster networking that spark conversation about clinically-rich teacher
education;
A presentation by Dr. Renee T. Clift, Professor and Associate Dean at the University of
Arizona and Dr. Carolyn Dumler, Associate Superintendent in the Marana Unified
School District. Rene is a teacher education scholar who studies partnerships and school
university collaboration. She was the 2015 recipient of the Association of Teacher
Educators Hans Olsen Distinguished Teacher Educator Award and has numerous
publications. She is active in ATE, Division K of the American Educational Research
Association, and the Self-Study of Teacher Education Special Interest
Group. Carolyn serves as Executive Director of the University of Arizonas Professional
Preparation Board. She has served on numerous statewide committees on the topics of
educator certification, induction and mentoring, and professional preparation program
reviews.
Structured work time to share your own research and pedagogies related to clinical
practice and receive feedback on a current or new research project in collaboration with
other dedicated clinical educators.
We will be carefully structuring every minute of the 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Symposium on
Saturday, February 13th to make the most of our new community of scholars and practitioners.
In order to customize the experience for participants and to plan appropriately, please respond by
November 10, 2015 to two questions:
1) Will you accept this invitation to serve as a 2016 Clinical Fellow?

2) Will you bring a school-based teacher educator (mentor teacher, PDS principal, coach,
etc.) to the conference to serve as a thought-partner throughout the Symposium and
conference activities?
Notes: School-based educators will be designated as Clinical Practice Partners and will
receive special recognition along with all Clinical Practice Fellows at the conference. Clinical
Fellows are encouraged to explore funding to support the participation of Clinical Practice
Partners through their institutions deans offices. Both Clinical Fellows and Clinical Practice
Partners must register for the conference. Registration materials are available at
http://www.ate1.org.
Please accept or decline your invitation to serve as a Clinical Fellow and state if you will be
bringing a school-based educator (please provide the name, school, and position of your partner
if you know these details) via email at ateclinicalfellows@gmail.com. If we do not hear from you
by November 13, 2015, we will assume that you do not wish to accept the invitation to serve as a
Clinical Fellow.
Once again, congratulations! We look forward to hearing from you as well as learning with and
from one another about clinically-rich teacher education practices at the second annual ATE
Clinical Fellows Symposium on Saturday, February 13, 2016. If you have any questions about
the Clinical Fellows Symposium, please contact us at aparke19@gmu.edu (Audra),
sparson5@gmu.edu (Seth), or kzenkov@gmu.edu (Kristien).
All the best,
Audra Parker
