REINFORCEMENT
Deformed steel bars, grade II, in accordance with Din 488 specification with a minimum

For drainage ditches with capacities larger than 5.6m3/sec the free board shall be
maximum 0.6m.
The velocity of the flow in drainage ditches shall range between 0.60 to 2.00 m/sec. The
maximum velocity of flow in unlined drainage ditches shall not exceed 0.75m/sec.
Collected clean water sewer shall be soaked away of the plant at the suitable location.
7.2
TANK AREAS
For the tank storage area the accidental spillage within bounded area will be collected
by surface slope in a single sump located at the internal face of the bund wall. Effluent
shall be piped under the wall to a normally closed valve at the external toe of the wall.
From this sump gravity pipe will carry the liquid to the open ditches. If there is no
spillage in dike area and surface water is non-contaminated, the flow will discharge to
the open ditches, otherwise contaminated water should be removed by portable pumps.
As this valve will be of small diameter so that the discharge from the dike area is
controlled at a reasonably slow rate thus not affecting the sizing of the open ditches or
separator.
7.3
Storm, Fire or washing run-off waters coming from all hydrocarbon pollutable
paved areas, pump stations, process, utilities and fuel trucks loading stations.
Unless a greater diameter is required by design, minimum pipe diameter shall be 100
mm for a single equipment drain.

Lever slots shall be used at the edges of the cover for lifting. Each time the cover is
removed the sealing compound in the seal slot shall be reinstated.
7.3.1
VENTS
In order to prevent gas accumulation in the plant, each section of the contaminated
water drainage system with atmospheric pressure shall be vented from the upper point
of the wall of the sealed manholes to a safe location.
Minimum vent diameter shall be 100 mm. In Process Units, the vent line shall terminate
at least 2.5 meters above any service platform and be so oriented to avoid hazard to
personnel and danger from fire ignition and at least at 15 m. from heaters.

vent pipes shall have a gentle slope towards the manhole.
7.3.2
DESIGN
The Oily water drainage network shall be designed taking into account a maximum
design flow which is the higher of the two following values:

selfcleansing velocity of 0.75 m/sec (2.50 ft/sec) .The rate of sanitary sewage flow shall
be determined on the basis of 115 liters (30 gallons) per person per shift. Maximum
slope of sanitary sewers shall be 5.0% except for vertical sewers.
