fc= 25 MPa

REINFORCEMENT
Deformed steel bars, grade II, in accordance with Din 488 specification with a minimum
yield stress of 300 MPa or equivalent shall be used.

3. SITE PREPARATION AND LEVELS

Location of site is nearly flat with maximum 1.5 % local slope at some areas, therefore no
general excavation is envisaged except for topsoil removal which shall be carried out
according to thickness indicated in soil investigation report.

Since ground water elevation in the area is too high, in order to drain the plant surface
water properly also to bring underground civil works out of water level, general filling with
mean 1.5 meter thickness is recommended.

TANK AREAS
For the tank storage area the accidental spillage within bounded area will be collected
by surface slope in a single sump located at the internal face of the bund wall. Effluent
shall be piped under the wall to a normally closed valve at the external toe of the wall.
From this sump gravity pipe will carry the liquid to the open ditches. If there is no
spillage in dike area and surface water is non-contaminated, the flow will discharge to
the open ditches, otherwise contaminated water should be removed by portable pumps.
As this valve will be of small diameter so that the discharge from the dike area is
controlled at a reasonably slow rate thus not affecting the sizing of the open ditches or
separator.

7.3

OILY WATER SEWER

This sewer shall collect:

All drains of hydrocarbon equipments.

Pumps and compressors cooling water.

Process spillages and drainages.

Storm, Fire or washing run-off waters coming from all hydrocarbon pollutable
paved areas, pump stations, process, utilities and fuel trucks loading stations.

The system consists of funnels, underground piping, cleanouts, catch-basins, manholes

and vents.
Each drainage area (including a catch basin at low point) shall be maximum 400 m2 and
square configuration as far as possible.
Maximum 3 oily water catch basins may be connected to each other but inlet pipes shall
be fire sealed as 150 mm.
Outlet pipes from catch basins shall have a 150 mm minimum diameter.

Unless a greater diameter is required by design, minimum pipe diameter shall be 100

Manholes are required in mains and laterals at any change of direction and at the
junction into laterals or mains.
Maximum distance between manholes shall be:
Pipe Diameter (mm) Maximum Interval (m)
150 D < 400

50

400 D < 900

70

900 D

100

Covers of oily water manholes shall be gas-tight cast iron without any lifting holes.
Lever slots shall be used at the edges of the cover for lifting. Each time the cover is
removed the sealing compound in the seal slot shall be reinstated.
7.3.1

VENTS
In order to prevent gas accumulation in the plant, each section of the contaminated
water drainage system with atmospheric pressure shall be vented from the upper point
of the wall of the sealed manholes to a safe location.
Minimum vent diameter shall be 100 mm. In Process Units, the vent line shall terminate
at least 2.5 meters above any service platform and be so oriented to avoid hazard to
personnel and danger from fire ignition and at least at 15 m. from heaters.
In unpaved areas the vent line shall extend up to 3.0 m above ground. The underground
vent pipes shall have a gentle slope towards the manhole.

7.3.2

DESIGN
The Oily water drainage network shall be designed taking into account a maximum
design flow which is the higher of the two following values:
Q = (Qr + Qp) or Q= (Qf + Qp).
Where:
Qr = Rainfall flow
Qf = Fire fighting flow
Qp = Process flow

SYCV-CV BASC-EN CV-DCDS-0001-B02

REV.:

The Mannings formula as explained above shall be used to design the Oily water
drainage system.
This water will be directed to a sump shall have retention corresponding to the maximum
of rainfall or firewater of 60 min duration for rainfall and 120 min for firewater and then
pumped out to the Plant battery limit.
7.4

SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM

7.4.1

The sanitary sewers shall collect all domestic wastes and shall discharge collected
sewers to a septic tank, the effluent of which is pumped to the tiein point.

7.4.2

Sanitary sewers shall be designed to flow 75% full at the maximum design rates.
Minimum size sanitary sewer shall be 150 mm 6 in diameter except for building laterals
which can be 4, laid on a minimum slope of 0.8 which will provide onceaday
selfcleansing velocity of 0.75 m/sec (2.50 ft/sec) .The rate of sanitary sewage flow shall
be determined on the basis of 115 liters (30 gallons) per person per shift. Maximum
slope of sanitary sewers shall be 5.0% except for vertical sewers.

7.4.3

Sewer manholes shall be provided at the junction of all sewer mains, at the end of all
mains, and at changes in grade, size of mains and horizontal alignment. However, if
such changes do not occur, the manholes shall be located at intervals mentioned in 7.3

7.4.4

Manholes shall be constructed of reinforced concrete. The minimum thickness of the

concrete floor slab and walls shall be 150 mm. Sanitary sewer manholes shall be
designed for straight through (no trapping) flow and shall have removable, solid
castiron covers.

7.4.5

Grease Traps shall be provided in waste lines having large flows from kitchens.

7.4.6

The Mannings formula as explained in section 7.1 of this design criteria shall be used to
design the sanitary sewer pipes.

7.4.7

The roughness coefficient n in Mannings formula shall be taken as follows:

Cast-iron pipes:

n = 0.012

Polyethylene pipe:

n = 0.011

Concrete pipe:

n = 0.013
