Panelling and Partition Wall

Partition walls
Introduction

Load bearing or non load bearing.

Load bearing wall is called an internal

wall

Requirements :
Advantage

Strong-to carry its own load

Resist impact
Stable and strong to support
wall fixtures.

Thin and light

Sound barrier
Fire resistant

Types of partition walls

Depending upon the material used partition

walls may be divided into the following
different types:

Timber partitions
Metal partitions
Brick partitions
Clay block partitions
Concrete partitions
Glass partitions
Asbestos sheet or GI sheet
partitions
Metal lath

Concrete partitions

cast in situ or built from

panels or blocks, precast

wall.
cast in situ walls, 10 cm
thick and below, the
reinforcement consisting of
mild steel bars placed in the
centre of the wall thickness.
Concrete mix 1:2:4
Precast concrete partition walls:

The slabs
are 32 mm thick and are inserted
in the grooves of the precast post
and the joints are subsequently
filled with mortar.

Brick partitions

Plain brick partitions

Reinforced brick partitions

Brick nogging partitions

This type of wall is constructed by laying bricks as stretchers in
cement mortar. Thus the wall is generally 10cm (half brick) thick
and plastered considerably on both faces. If properly
constructed, it is considerably strong and fire resistant.

Timber partitions

wooden framework either

supported on the floor below

or by side walls.
The framework consists of
a rigid arrangement of
timber members which may
be plastered or covered with
boarding etc from both the
sides not fire-resistant
Such partitions are not fire-resistant
and the timber forming the partition is
likely to decay or be eaten away by
white ants

Glass partitions: hollow block

glass block are not used as
load-bearing walls.

Laid in cement lime mortar

(1:1:4).

Glass partition walls

These may be made from sheet glass or hollow glass bricks. In case of
sheet glass partitions, sheets of glass are fixed in the framework of
wooden members dividing the entire area into a number of panels. The
panels may be square or rectangular and their size varies with the choice
of the individual. Glass partitions are cheap, light, and easy in construction
and provide reasonable privacy and sound insulation.

PANELLING

Wood Veneers
Automated sanding and precision coating technologies ensure
consistency, durability and the highest quality finish.
Transparent dye stains and clear top coats with a choice of
gloss level optimize the beauty of every veneer. Marlite can
meet any desired specification including sequence-matching
and blue-print matching. Earth friendly substrates are also
available.

Slate Finishes

For use with Surface Systems and Myriad

The diversity of color and pattern make Marlite Slate an
attractive choice for your wall design. Each wall panel brings its
own unique beauty to your walls.
Because these are genuine slate finishes, there is no
guaranteed match of color or texture from panel to panel. (note
the variation on the images). Each wall panel brings its own
unique beauty to your walls.

Metal Veneers

From soft and natural to dominant and bold, metal wall panels
enhance space with structure and stability.
Metal panels are anodized or clear-coated for a durable, easy
to clean finish.

Volta

Volta dimensional panels are sculpture for walls. Sculpted

MDF panels are carved in contiguous flowing patterns to create
bold, exciting vertical works of art. Volta is ideal for focal areas,
special accent walls and are excellent for retail fixturing.

False ceiling

A false ceiling is a secondary ceiling, hung below

the main (structural) ceiling. It may also be
referred to as a drop ceiling, t-bar ceiling, false
ceiling, suspended ceiling, grid ceiling, drop in
ceiling, or drop out ceiling and is a staple of
modern construction and architecture in both
residential and commercial applications.

Effective building design requires balancing

multiple objectives: aesthetics, acoustics,
environmental factors, and integration with the
building's infrastructurenot to mention cost of
construction as well as long-term operation costs.

Aesthetics

Ceilings are important aesthetic elements of

building architecturewitness the sistine chapel
ceiling by michelangelo.

Modern dropped ceilings were initially created to

hide the building infrastructure, including piping,
wiring, and/or ductwork, by creating a plenum
space above the dropped ceiling, while allowing
access for repairs and inspections. Drop ceilings
may also be used to hide problems, such as
structural damage. Further, drop out ceilings can
also conceal the sprinkler systems while still
providing full fire suppression functionality.

Acoustics

Acoustic balance and control was another early

objective of dropped ceilings. A noisy room can
overstimulate occupants, while a too quiet
interior may seem dull and uninviting.
The acoustic performance of suspended ceilings
has improved dramatically over the years, with
enhanced sound absorption and attenuation. This
is sometimes achieved by adding insulation
known as sound attenuation batts (sabs), more
commonly referred to as "sound batts", above

the panels to help deaden sounds and keep

adjacent rooms quieter.
