Comments:
Jaguar introduced the re-engineered third generation XJ X350 in 2003,
featuring an all-aluminum body similar in design to a conventional steel
structure, but with its underbody components bonded together with
aerospace-grade epoxy adhesives and 3,200 self-piercing rivets. If
made of steel, it would weigh 40% more.
The X350 features outer headlights larger than the inner headlights as
well as greater width, length and height, compared to the previous
model. The rear suspension changed from the previous double
wishbone to more sophisticated multi-link arrangement. Air suspension
was fitted all round which provided adaptive damping as well as rear
self levelling. Control of ride height and suspension mode was fully
computer controlled. Dynamic stability control, traction control, two
zone climate control and touch screen interface were standard
.
.
The V8 engines remained in the new model, but were revised with
more powerful versions. The XJ8 was powered by a naturally aspirated
4.2L V8, the 4.0 L supercharged engines from the X308 Mk II were
replaced by 4.2 L supercharged units. The last X350 vehicle was
produced in March 2009.
