Math This week we reviewed our unit on adding and subtracting decimals.

Students had an extra credit homework assignment Monday night. Students took the Topic 2 test on Tuesday. Any student who received a D or F
has been notified and will be offered a chance to retake within the next
week. Parents, you are able to view their online test by going to Pearsonrealize.com and typing in your childs log in info (they know it by heart). Our next
unit, which we began Wednesday, is on multiplying larger whole numbers.

Reading

Our story next week is about the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad that linked the west and the east. The workers faced many
challenges along the way. We will practice the reading skill of cause and effect. Our Reading test scores have been hit or miss. Students are allowed to
use their book on the Friday test. They do have the opportunity to retest
within a week if they receive a D or an F. Last weeks reading test scores will
not be put into the gradebook due to adverse testing conditions. We had
many interruptions during our testing time. I did score the tests and send
them back to students via their Google Drive, but I explained to them that I
did not put them in the gradebook.

Grammar Next week we will learn about main and helping verbs.
Writing This week students worked on finishing up their rough drafts of
their Tall Tales. Students will be editing and revising these and submitting
them for a grade.

Spelling- Our list focuses on contraction words. Students can practice

online at www.spellingcity.com/triton5.

Social Studies We took our Geography test on Tuesday of this week,

and I was very pleased with the scores. You are able to view the online test
by logging into your childs Google Drive and looking in their shared with me
folder. Students have logins and can walk you through how to access their
graded tests. Our new unit is on Early Americans including Native Americans. We are going to be training students how to take good notes. Students
will then be able to use these notes on the unit test.

Science-This week we read about tools that scientists use and how they
use them. Next week students will practice using these scientific tools in a
lab.

Note From the Teacher:

In a few weeks we will be sending home info on our first fundraiser of the year. We are
going to try a Walk-a-thon this year! Were excited to try this fundraiser out. The best part
is that it will be pure profit!
We offer a challenge for students over the course of the year. The student from each
class who sells the most in fundraisers collectively will receive a free trip to Camp Amigo, no
money necessary. Thats a great incentive to try and help out as much as you can with
each fundraiser this year. We appreciate all the help we can get to make our Camp Amigo
trip cheaper for everyone.
