What experiences as a learner/student have you had that have been structured this way?

What has been positive about these experiences?

As I student I cant recall being a part of an entirely inquiry-based lesson. However, Ive had
teachers incorporate this method into lessons. I found it was really helpful for me as a learner
because I understand information better when Im able to be really hands-on on and work the
information myself. However, I find direct instruction to be helpful because it helps me matain
focus on the task/problem. Instructions can also be made clearer when a teacher is
facilitating the lesson.
In the lesson plan that you looked at for #2 above how was this lesson "different" from a gradual
release model of I Do, We Do, You Do?
In the lesson plan instead of the teacher demonstrating solving a problem, having the class
solve a problem, and then having students work independently this teacher starts by having
her class engage in a discussion about the subject. Students still participate in group
activities however they also engage in discussions while working through the activities. Then
students share ideas and

work over problems themselves.

As you think about planning instruction like this what are you excited about? What barriers are there?
Planning instruction like this is really excited because it allows for a lot of student interaction.
Students have the opportunity to really take control of their learning. While this is a good
thing it can be hard as a teacher to give up that much control of a lesson.
