General Instructions
1. Before submission of the online Application Form, the candidate should read this
notification carefully.

2. On behalf of the State of Gujarat, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara,

the Nodal Agency announces holding of the 11th Gujarat State Eligibility Test (GSET) on
25th September 2016 (SUNDAY) for determining the Eligibility of Gujarat candidates for
Assistant Professor in universities and colleges of Gujarat State. The Maharaja Sayajirao

University of Baroda, Vadodara, State Agency will conduct GSET in 23 subjects at 6


Centres in Gujarat.

3. The candidates who qualify the Gujarat State Eligibility Test for eligibility for Assistant

Professor will be governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Assistant
Professor of the concerned Universities / Colleges / State Government of Gujarat State, as
the case may be.

4. The result of the GSET to be held on 25th September 2016 (SUNDAY) will be made
available on the GSET websites: www.gujaratset.ac.in as and when it is declared. The
candidates will not be individually intimated about their result.

5. Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ Physically Handicapped (PH) / Visually

Handicapped (VH) /Other Backward Classes (OBC) (Non-creamy layer), as per the central
list of Other Backward Classes available on National Commission for Backward Classes
(NCBC), Government of India website : www.ncbc.nic.in, candidates will be given such
special concessions as may be decided by the Agency.

Condition of Eligibility

Only those candidates are eligible to appear in the GSET who have completed / are

Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (General) (without rounding off) in

studying in the final year or semester of a UGC specified Masters degree.

Masters Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by

UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science &

Applications, Sciences are eligible for this Test. The Other Backward Classes (OBC)

belonging to non-creamy layer / Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ Physically


Handicapped (PH)/ Visually Handicapped (VH) category candidates who have secured at

least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Masters degree or equivalent examination are

eligible for this Test.

Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing in the final year at the qualifying

Masters degree examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates whose
qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for the Test. However, such
candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for Assistant
Professor / Lectureship only after they have passed their Masters degree examination or

equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of Other Backward Classes (OBC)

belonging to non-creamy layer / SC/ST/PH/VH category candidates). Such candidates must


complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of declaration of

result of GSET Examination with required percentage of marks, failing which they will be

treated as disqualified.

The Ph.D. degree holders whose Masters level examination had been completed by 19 th
September, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a
relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in the GSET

Examination.

Candidates having post-graduate diploma/certificate awarded by Indian University/Institute


or foreign degree/diploma/certificate awarded by the foreign University/Institute should in

their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their diploma/degree/certificate with


Master's degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities

(AIU), New Delhi. (www.aiuweb.org)

Those candidates who are studying in the first year of two years course or in first

two semesters of a four semesters course of Master's Degree cannot appear for this
test.

Candidates are required to appear for GSET in the subject of their Post Graduation

only. In case the subject of a candidate is not included in the list of GSET subjects, the
candidates may appear in UGC NET / UGC CSIR NET which is held twice a year.

Candidates are neither required to send any certificate / documents in support of


their eligibility nor printout of their Application Form to Gujarat State Eligibility Test

office, Vadodara. However the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves
about their eligibility for the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by GSET /
UGC at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal

action.

There is no upper age limit.

The candidates who have passed M.Sc. (by Research) are not eligible to appear for the
SET Examination. As per the U.G.C. Rules.

Candidates belonging to SC / ST / PH / VH / OBC (Cast Certificate along with latest Non Creamy Layer certificate) category must possess Valid Category Certificate and certificates
related to PH / VH. Therefore, the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves

about their eligibility for the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by GSET /
UGC at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal

action.

Candidates should note that their candidature is provisional. The mere fact that Online
Application Form and Examination Fee accepted and Hall Ticket issued to a candidate will
not imply that GSET Agency has accepted his / her candidature. Their candidature will be

deemed final only upon verification of eligibility conditions with reference to the claims made

in their application, after the result of GSET Examination. In the event a candidate being
found ineligible at any stage for the award due to any reason (including unintentional

computer error or printers devil etc.), he / she will be declared as not-qualified in GSET

Examination.

GSET Agency will not issue any mark sheet to qualified / not-qualified candidates.

The GSET Agency will issue certificate to the qualifying candidates only on
verification of the Eligibility Documents immediately after the result of the GSET
Examination.

Exemption from GSET

Exemption from GSET will be as per decisions taken by the UGC and Government of

NET/SLET/SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and

however, that candidates, who are or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance
with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of

Ph.D. Degree), Regulation 2009, shall be exempt from the requirement of the minimum

eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant

Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges/Institutions.

The candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 are also
exempted from appearing in NET.

For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET)
accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor / Lectureship held prior to 1st June
2002, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Assistant Professor

anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are

eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the universities/ colleges
belonging to the state from where they have cleared their SET.

MODE OF PAYMENT
o The candidate is expected to Generate Computerised Bank Challan Form in triplicate

(Bank Copy, GSET Copy & Candidates Copy) as given in the Notification.

All the three copies of the Challan Form have to be submitted in any branch of

Corporation Bank, within the Gujarat State and selected cities(Mumbai and Delhi)
outside State of Gujarat, along with the necessary Examination fee and the Bank fee of

Candidates can deposit the requisite fee in Corporation Bank only after 24 hours of

downloading the challan from GSET Website and Register online immediately after
payment of the fee.

The bank will retain one copy and return two copies of the challan to the candidate.

It is mandatory for the candidate to keep and preserve GSET copy and Candidate's
Copy of the challan with him/her for future reference.

The candidate should note that the printout of online Application Form, bank
challan or any other certificate or document is not required to be sent to Gujarat

State Eligibility test office, Vadodara before he / she is declared as qualified in the

GSET Examination.

After declaration result of GSET Examination, if candidate is declared as qualified,


GSET copy of Bank Challan have to be mandatorily submitted along with the printout of

online Application Form, Original Hall Ticket and other certificates at the time of

Please note that fee submitted by any other mode like money order, demand draft, IPO
etc. will be rejected.

Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Scheme of Examination

The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective type
questions and will be held in two separate sessions as under:

Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the
candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent

thinking and general awareness of the candidate. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of 2

marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any 50. In
the event of the candidate attempting more than 50 questions, the first 50 questions

attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.

Paper-II shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions based on the subject
selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.

Paper-III will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the subject selected by
the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.

All questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus
(including all electives, without options).

Syllabus of Test:

Syllabus for GSET Examination will be the same as UGC / CSIR NET. Syllabi for all Gujarat

SET (GSET) subjects can be downloaded from the GSET Website www.gujaratset.ac.in .
GSET Agency, Vadodara will not send the syllabus to individual candidates.

Procedure and Criteria for Declaration of Result


This will comprise of following steps:

Step I: Minimum marks to be obtained in Gujarat SET (GSET) for considering a candidate
for eligibility for Assistant Professor :

The candidates are required to obtain following minimum marks separately in Paper-I,

Step II: Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a merit list will be prepared

subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured
by such candidates.

Step III: Top 15% candidates (for each subject and category), from the merit list mentioned

under step II, will be declared Gujarat SET (GSET) qualified for eligibility for Assistant
Professor.

It may be noted that the above qualifying criteria decided by GSET is final and binding.
There is no provision of re - evaluations of papers.

Provisions for persons with disability

For Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates, thirty (30) minutes extra time shall be provided
separately for paper-I and Paper-II. For paper-III, forty five (45) minutes extra time shall be

provided. They will also be provided the services of a scribe who would be a graduate in a subject

other than that of the candidate. Those Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates who are not in
a position to write in their own hand-writing can also avail these services by making prior
request (at least one week before the date of GSET Examination) in writing to the GSET

Agency office, Vadodara. Extra time and facility of scribe would not be provided to other
Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates.

Hall Ticket
It may be noted that the hall ticket will be uploaded on the website www.gujaratset.ac.in 7 days

prior to Examination day. No hall ticket will be sent to the candidates by post. The candidates
should download their hall ticket from the website to ascertain their venue of the Test as

mentioned in the Hall Ticket and appear in the examination only at the designated examination
center. No candidate will be allowed to appear at the examination center other than that
allotted to him/her in the Hall Ticket.

How to Apply (Application to be submitted Online)


Steps for submission of Online Application Form

The candidates must read the 'ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA' carefully and must satisfy
themselves regarding their eligibility for the Test before filling the online application and
submitting the printout of Online Application Forms. Before applying Online, candidates are
advised to go through detailed notification available at GSET website and also to be shortly

published in the Local Newspapers and Employment News.

Candidate seeking admission to the Test must apply online through a link REGISTER
ONLINE FOR GSET EXAM" available on the GSET website: www.gujaratset.ac.in.

It is compulsory to register online for GSET Examination immediately after downloading the
computerised bank challan payment of the fee in the bank. No other means/ mode of
application will be accepted.

Before applying Online, the candidates must possess the Scanned passport (pp) size
photograph in JPEG format and should not be more than 100kb.

The candidate is required to generate the Computerised Bank Challan to pay examination

fee from the link available on GSET website home page. Candidates can deposit the
requisite fee in any branch of Corporation Bank only, within the State of Gujarat or outside
State of Gujarat, along with the Bank fee of Rs.25/- after 24 hours of generating the challan

from GSET Website and Register online immediately after payment of the fee.

Please note that Fee submitted through any other mode like Money Order, Demand Draft,
IPO etc. will be summarily rejected.

After depositing the fee and getting the counterfoil from the bank, candidate has to revisit

the GSET website to fill up the Application Form Online. Please fill correct information

carefully from the Bank Fee Challan in the online application form and follow the on screen
instructions for filling up application form. Confirm that your Name, Subject, Centre,

Category, Physically or Visually handicapped, recent passport size photo scanned in JPEG

format and not be more then 100kb and all other details filled are correct. Otherwise no

correction will be made after you submit the application form. SET Office will not be

responsible for loss arising out of these to the candidates.

After successful submission & confirmation, the candidate should take printout of filled

online Application Form on A-4 size paper only The print out should be taken in POTRAIT
orientation to have it in one single page. It is mandatory for the candidate to keep and

preserve printout of filled online Application Form with him/her for future reference.

Due to Technical or any other reason, if the Scanned passport (pp) size photograph

uploaded by candidate does not appear / printed properly on Print out of Online Application
form, Candidates are requested to send the Scanned passport (pp) size photograph

immediately on E-Mail: gujaratset@gmail.com

The candidates are required to bring a photo identity card also along with their printout of
online Examination Hall Ticket on the day of examination.

The candidate should note that the printout of online Application Form, bank challan

or any other certificate or document is not required to be sent to Gujarat State

Eligibility test office, Vadodara before he / she is declared as qualified in the GSET

Examination.

After declaration result of GSET Examination, if candidate is declared as qualified, printout


of online Application Form have to be mandatorily submitted along with the GSET copy of

Bank Challan, Original Hall Ticket and other certificates at the time of document verification

at Gujarat State Eligibility test office, Vadodara.

The details of accepted applicants for the GSET Examination will be placed on our website

after 20 days of the last date of submission of application form. Any query including

It may be pointed out that getting application confirmation, downloading Examination Hall
Ticket and noting of seating arrangement/venue of test from the GSET website shall be the
sole responsibility of candidate only. GSET Agency will not be held responsible in this

regard.

In order to avoid last minute rush, the candidates are advised to apply early. GSET Agency
will not be responsible for network problems or any other problem of this nature.

Submission of Online Application is mandatory. Applications submitted in any other format

will not be accepted. Hard Copies of application form will not be accepted by GSET
Agency.

It is compulsory to Register online for GSET Examination immediately after the

payment of fee in the bank. Please note that Fee submitted through any other mode like
Money Order, Cheque, Pay Order, IPO etc. will be summarily rejected.

Application Form must be completed in all respects as per the Notification. All incomplete
Application Forms will be rejected. No request for change of category or subject will be
entertained, even after the result is declared.

Print out of the Online Application should be kept by the candidate with them for future
reference. GSET agency will not provide this information even after result is declared.

No application can be submitted and no fee will be accepted after last date in any
circumstances.

placed on our website after 20 days of the last date of submission of application form. Any

Candidates should note that their candidature is strictly provisional. The mere fact that

online application form and fees accepted and Hall ticket issued and the candidate is
allowed to appear in the test shall not imply that GSET Agency has finally accepted his/ her
candidature, since the documents invited for verification from the qualified candidates only,

immediately after result.

GSET Agency may change the centre(s) or date of examination without assigning
any reason.

The Examination Hall Ticket will be uploaded on GSET website www.gujaratset.ac.in 10


days prior to Examination day. Candidates have to download and get a printout of

Examination Hall Ticket. It will not be sent to the candidates by Post. If your Examination
Hall Ticket does not display image of your photograph, you have to paste the photo at

appropriate place and get it attested from the competent authority.

Please confirm that your name, subject, Centre etc. shown in the Examination Hall Ticket

are correct. If there is any error in the Examination Hall Ticket please contact SET office
(0265- 2786337) / E-mail : gujaratset@gmail.com immediately and submit written
application to SET Office otherwise SET Office will not be responsible for making necessary

corrections and will not be responsible for providing benefits or for loss arising out of these

to the candidates.

The candidate is not allowed in the Examination Hall without the Examination Hall
Ticket.

The candidates are requested to ascertain their venue of the test mentioned in the
examination hall ticket and appear in the examination only at designated examination
centre / venue. No candidate will be allowed to appear at the examination centre /

venue other than that allowed to him / her in the examination hall ticket.

Candidate must carry Printout of Online Examination Hall Ticket and also one

additional photo identity such as a driving license, voter ID, college/university identity

card, PAN card etc. to the examination center on the Day of the Examination. No
candidate will be allowed to appear in the examination whose hall ticket is not issued

by GSET Agency.

It may be pointed out that getting application confirmation, downloading Examination Hall
Ticket and noting of seating arrangement/venue of test from the GSET website shall be the

regard.

To ensure fair conduct of examination frisking of the candidates will be done properly at
main entry gate of the exam centre. The candidates should report at the examination centre

60 minutes prior to commencement of examination and cooperate with the invigilators in


frisking. No candidate will be allowed to the centre / hall after commencement of

examination. No candidate will be allowed to leave the examination hall / room before

12 : 15 P.M. in the first session and 04 : 30 P.M. in the second session.

The use of calculators or Log Tables is not permitted. Mobile phones, pagers and electronic

devices, bits of paper, books / note books etc. are not allowed in the Examination

Hall/Room. The candidate(s) found in possession of any of these items in the examination

hall / room will be treated as unfair means and his / her result will not be declared.

The candidates have to follow the instructions given by the invigilators in the examination
hall / room and should not argue with the invigilators or other staff involved in the

examination duty at the examination centre. The candidates, who will not follow the

instructions, will be treated as unfair means and his / her result will not be declared.

In the examination hall / room, the candidates will neither talk to each other nor discuss any
matter during the examination. The candidates should not disturb the candidates in the

examination room and maintain complete silence during the examination. The candidate

violating these instructions will be treated as unfair means and his / her result will not be

declared.

For Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates, thirty (30) minutes extra time shall be
provided separately for paper-I and Paper-II. For paper-III, forty five (45) minutes extra time

shall be provided. They will also be provided the services of a scribe who would be a

graduate in a subject other than that of the candidate. Those Physically Handicapped
(PH) candidates who are not in a position to write in their own hand-writing can also

avail these services by making prior request (at least one week before the date of
GSET Examination) in writing to the GSET Agency office, Vadodara. Extra time and

facility of scribe would not be provided to other Physically Handicapped (PH)

candidates.

For Science Subjects i.e. Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences &
Life Sciences, the syllabus is same as of the CSIR-NET. However, the examination Pattern

will be same as of the UGC-NET, described above. For all other subjects, the syllabus is

same as of the UGC-NET.

All old examination ' s Questions Papers for Paper - I, Paper - II and Paper - III for all the
subjects are available in our website.

The questions in all three papers will appear both in Gujarati and English versions (except

for languages and science subjects). In case of any discrepancy in Gujarati and English

version of questions in Paper-I, II and III, the English Version should be taken as

final.

It is compulsory for Candidate to appear in all three papers. A candidate who does not
appear in paper-I, will not be permitted to appear in paper-II and paper-III.

The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I, Paper-II and
Paper-III on the OMR answer sheet provided separately.

Along with the Hall Ticket, The detailed instructions for the candidates will also be uploaded
on GSET website www.gujaratset.ac.in. Candidates may please see the instructions

regarding use of test booklets, filling up the OMR Answer Sheet and other important
instructions to be followed on the day of examination. It may noted that instructions to

candidates will not be sent to the candidate either by post or by e-mail.

The candidate shall have to return the original OMR Sheet of Paper - I & II together and
Paper - III to the Invigilator before leaving the examination hall / room. However, candidates

are allowed to carry the Test Booklets of Paper - I, II and III along with duplicate copy

(carbonless copy) of OMR Sheet on conclusion of examination.

The Answer key(s) for all question papers will be uploaded on the GSET website

www.gujaratset.ac.in before preparation of the Final Result of GSET Examination.


Candidate(s) appeared in GSET Examination can download the Answer key(s).

In case, the candidates, having grievances with regards to answer key(s), may challenge
the answer key(s) by sending a written request to the Member Secretary, Gujarat State

Eligibility Test, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, B - Block, Chameli Baug, Nr.
University Guest House, Prof. C. C. Mehta Road, Vadodara - 390 002 supporting his / her

stand with standard books / literature along with the Demand Draft of Rs. 1,000/- per

question in favour of the " Member Secretary, GSET" payable at Vadodara, within
stipulated time period given for the same. The envelope should be marked "Grievance

Regarding Answer Key(s) of GSET Examination". The request(s) so received will be placed
before the Expert Committee(s). In case the challenge of any candidate regarding answer

key(s) is accepted, the fee will be refunded to such candidate. In all other cases the fee
once paid will not be refunded. GSET Agency's decision on the challenges shall be

final and the result will be declared on the basis of final answer keys.
There are no negative marks for incorrect answers.

The marks of all the candidates will be placed on GSET website: www.gujaratset.ac.in soon
after the declaration of the result. Besides this, GSET Agency will not issue any mark sheet

to any qualified / not-qualified candidate. . The GSET Agency will issue certificates to the
qualifying candidates only.

Further, the candidates, having grievances with regards to answer key(s) even after the

declaration of result of GSET Examination, may challenge the answer key(s) by sending a
written request to the Member Secretary, Gujarat State Eligibility Test, The Maharaja

Sayajirao University of Baroda, B - Block, Chameli Baug, Nr. University Guest House, Prof.

C. C. Mehta Road, Vadodara - 390 002 supporting his / her stand with standard books /

literature along with the Demand Draft of Rs. 5,000/- in favour of the "Member Secretary,
Gujarat SET" payable at Vadodara, within 30 days from the date of declaration of result of

GSET Examination. The envelope should be marked Grievance Regarding Answer Key(s)

of GSET Examination. The request(s) so received will be placed before the Expert
Committee(s). GSET Agency's decision on the challenges shall be final. In case the answer

key(s) is / are found to be incorrect, the GSET Agency will process the result in the light of

changed key(s) and qualify the additional candidates. However, the result if previously
qualified

candidates

shall

remain

unchanged.

Note: Fee paid for challenging answer keys, after declaration of result, will NOT be

refunded under any circumstances.

No TRAVEL ALLOWANCE will be paid to the candidates.


There is no provision of re - evaluations.

Canvassing, before or after Examination, in any form will disqualify the candidate.
The decision of GSET Agency shall be final in all matters.

All legal disputes pertaining to this Test shall fall within the jurisdiction of Vadodara Courts
only.
