The Strathmore Overnight Shelter is in

the midst of finalizing preparations for
the Helping Hands Resource Fair that will
take place Sep. 16 from 4 p.m. to 7:30
p.m. at the Strathmore Civic Centre.
The purpose of the fair is to allow citizens and people in need to find and acquire needed resources all in one place.
The fair is also designed to allow nonprofit associations to promote their programs
and display the initiatives they perform
and all the work they do in the community.
Richard Rodgers, director of outreach at
the Strathmore Overnight Shelter, said the
resource fair is designed to create more
awareness of the tough times many citizens are finding themselves in right now.
His goal is to open peoples eyes as to
the extent of the recession.
Rodgers said he thinks it is beneficial
for all the nonprofits to work together
to help citizens in need. He is expecting approximately 40 nonprofit associations to attend the fair, including the Red
Cross and Mothers Against Drunk Driving
(MADD).
I think with the economy as bad as it
is, we can actually work together and accomplish more and help more people,
said Rodgers. My goal is to keep the communication open, keep the teamwork going [and] help maximize the number of
people we help.
The fair will have door prizes, guest
speakers, free pizza and activities for kids.
Bottles of water and hygiene bags will be
given to attendees, and anyone is able to
fill up one bag of free clothes at the clothing store. Canned goods, toys and diapers
will also be on hand.
There will be two or three artists in attendance, including an artist sketching
portraits and a sci-fi artist.
Some services that will be offered free
include a pharmacist performing blood
pressure and glucose level checks, and a
hair stylist.

Rodgers said funding has been drying
up, and the Strathmore Overnight Shelter
is trying to help people in Strathmore and
Wheatland County area who may have lost
their jobs or who do not have enough income to support themselves.
We want to help the people who have
been here all their lives, said Rodgers. If
we can all work together and keep them
here and get them the help that they need,
then they can stay in this area where they
grew up.
Pastor Elizabeth Karp of the Harvest
Healing Centre Church started an initiative to provide overnight housing for men
and women in the area who are in need.
The overnight shelter has not opened as
of yet, but events like the Helping Hands
Resource Fair help those in need until the
shelter officially opens.
This event is very important for the
community, said Rodgers.

If there are head lice in your childrens school,

dont panic. It doesnt mean youre a bad parent
or housekeeper. Those lice dont fly or jump, they
just crawl. To check your child for lice, look for
eggs within a quarter-inch of the scalp. There are
some good products available to control lice. Our
pharmacists can help. Remember, if one member
of the family has head lice, check the whole family.
It is critical to act within three hours when
symptoms of a stroke begin. People under the age
of 45 seem to be slow in seeking immediate help.
Instead they wait to see if the symptoms improve.
Not wise. If you experience weakness, numbness
and difficulty speaking or seeing, call 911 right
away. Stroke cases have increased in the under
45 age group and is associated with high blood
pressure, diabetes, obesity and smoking. Its not
always a old persons problem.
We are coming into the fall season and of course
the coughs and colds and running noses are
common symptoms. Just because the colour of the
discharge is yellow or green doesnt necessarily
mean you need an antibiotic. This discharge
is usually caused by a virus not a bacteria so
antibiotics are a waste of money in this case.
An antitoxin against diphtheria was first tested
back in 1891 but it took another 20 years of
research to produce a reliable vaccine to protect
children from the disease. And it is still used today.
Ensure your children get immunized.
Questions on immunization? Our pharmacists
will be happy to answer them.

Early detection of disease avoids

invasive surgery
MELISSA STRLE
Times Reporter

Four-month-old Jonathan Schultz
from the Standard area recently had a
surgery at the Stollery Childrens Hospital in Edmonton to correct a condition he was born with called sagittal
craniosynostosis.
Early detection of this disease enabled young Jonathan and the Schultz family to avoid an invasive surgery
that would have been required after six
months of age.
If you catch it in a timely manner, you
can do a less invasive surgery for them
because their skull bones are so soft
and pliable still, but after six months
they have to do a way more invasive
surgery to fix the skull shape and allow
for room for the brain to grow because
the bones start to harden, said Jonathans mother Sarah Schultz, who is a
nurse.
Jonathan was born with a bony ridge
on the top back of his head and an undeveloped or closed soft spot. If the
condition had gone untreated, it might
have resulted in migraine and vision
problems as well as seizures when Jonathan was older.
Schultz said around the time he
was born, she started noticing certain
things on his head such as a flat spot,
pinched temples, a rounded forehead
and an oval shaped head instead of a
typical rounded head.
All of us noticed right away and I
asked if it was normal, she said. Our

doctor said dont worry about it, it will

be fine.
Schultz thought perhaps the visual signs she noticed might have been
from delivery and inquired further at
Jonathans two-week and six-week appointment, but still no diagnosis was
revealed.
Surprisingly, a reader of Schultzs
blog called in when she noticed Jonathans picture and head shape, and
thought he might have the same rare
condition as her own daughter. Schultz
followed up on this advice and Jonathan was eventually diagnosed with
craniosynostosis.
The ridge in itself was very obvious
but I think its rare enough that our doctor had probably never seen it before,
so it was a missed diagnosis, she said.
As a healthcare professional myself, I
dont know if I would have caught it.
The surgery happened very quickly,
less than 20 days after diagnosis. Schultz said the surgery went very well but
it was scary to see Jonathan so swollen
and puffy, and he
was in some pain
and discomfort
afterwards.
Jonathan started wearing a hel-

in order to
allow his skull to grow into the proper shape, and he will wear it for four
months.
Schultz recommends taking a proactive approach if parents are uncertain
about their babys head shape.
Bring it up to your healthcare practitioners and you can self-refer to the
head shape clinic at Alberta Childrens
Hospital until theyre four months old,
she said.
According to Alberta Health Services,
on average, one
in every 2,000 babies is born with
craniosynostosis.
September is craniofacial awareness month.

All door-to-door sales people must be in possession of a valid Town of

Strathmore Business License. The Town of Strathmore encourages
consumers to follow these tips in case approached by suspicious
salesmen or businesses (from the BBB website):

The next regular

Council Meetings
will be
September 21

Ask for their information if you are suspicious for any reason
about the business, salesperson or the product(s) they are selling, ask for
their contact information. Research the company online and call the head
office with any questions.

Ask detailed questions - ask for identification and inquire about

contract requirements as well as cancellation rights. Obtain written
documentation clearly outlining all policies before signing on the dotted
line.

Close the door if you feel the salesperson is using aggressive or

high-pressure sales tactics, close the door and do not grant them access
into your home.

Check with BBB after you have obtained the business contact
information and conducted your own research, check with BBB to see if
the business is accredited and what their rating is. You will also be able
to access business reviews and complaints as well as other valuable
information that could save you time and money.
Service Alberta says door-to-door salespersons must acquire proper

Rosebud Centre of the Arts executive director Adam Furfaro said farewell in early September.

Royal Sproule Photography

Gentle, energetic, passionate

Rosebud CEO will be missed
LAUREEN F. GUENTHER
Times Contributor

Rosebud Centre of the Arts said farewell in
early September to executive director Adam Furfaro. Furfaro guided the organization through significant growth, and his colleagues say hell be
missed.[Adam] is a gentle and godly servant leader, guiding and inspiring others through encouragement and example, said Colin Jackson, Rosebud Centre of the Arts (RCA) board chair. With
his remarkable leadership, RCA has blossomed in
our post-secondary education and our theatre programming, eliminated a million-dollar mortgage,
multiplied our fundraising and expanded our facilities.
[Adam] was responsible for formalizing and
growing our relationship with our audience
through Engage, a series of events that brought
audiences and artists and others together, said
Morris Ertman, Rosebud Theatres artistic director.
He is ultimately a people person, and that gift
aided us in increased development, sponsorship,
relationships to donors and more. His warmth and
energy will be missed.
According to Paul Muir, RSAs education director,
Rosebud School of the Arts has been blessed to
have Adam join us. His energy, passion and enthusiasm have generated new programs and initiatives, and have brought a lot of new interest to our
little valley. Were sad to see him go.
Furfaro will miss Rosebud too, he said, especially
all the relationships hes built here.
It hasnt been an easy time, but it has been fulfilling, and filled with so much learning, Furfaro
said. Im certainly leaving with a sense of satisfaction, and hopefully left the place in better shape
than I found it. And thats not saying it wasnt good.
It was great.
The people of this community are spectacular,
he added. I used to go to work on any given day
and I would have a list of things that I was going
to do. And I would do them, do them, do them.
In Rosebud, Furfaro learned to approach things
differently.
What you need to actually do is make room in
your day for the unexpected, he said. To have the
conversations that you werent expected to have,
to listen to somebody who had a situation to deal

with, or to talk to a patron.

It wasnt about trying to accomplish as much as
you could in one day, but it was about the relationships and conversations.
Nevertheless, there were challenges. When he
arrived in 2012, the organization was 1.4 million
dollars in debt.
Companies were closing with that much debt,
[but] this board wouldnt let that happen, Furfaro
said. It was the tenacity of the board and staff that
wanted to keep this place going.
The organization was at a place where either it
had to grow or it had to get smaller, so growth was
the model they took. Donor relations and development and sponsorships and government assistance
were all necessary.
In 2014, a $1 million donation from Richard and
Lois Haskayne erased their mortgage debt. Government assistance eliminated the rest. In 2015,
the Haskaynes and an anonymous donor initiated
large matching campaigns. Sponsorships have multiplied by 400 to 500 per cent.
During Albertas economic downturn, donations
and attendance are below target, he said, but its
not debilitating and its not life-threatening, which
it would have been if theyd had that [debt].
Furfaro said hes proud of Rosebuds voice
within the province, being recognized in theatrical circles, industry circles and education circles as
being a relevant and important rural voice to arts
and culture.
Hes also pleased about record RSA enrollment,
marketing expansions, the hospitality emphasis
and the theatres production quality.
Id like to see this place get some more provincial and national recognition, he said. The place
is small, but the story is large.
Furfaro is now executive director of a church in
Ontario, his home province. With two daughters
in Ontario universities, his wife wishing to resume
her film and television acting career, and their parents aging, it seemed time to return, he said.
The changes ahead are very exciting, Furfaro
said, but its hard to leave. Its amazing how quickly your roots grow.
A former board member is RCAs interim CEO
while the board continues the search to replace
Furfaro.

day, Sept. 2.
Constable Shannon White of Strathmore said
the accused has an extensive criminal record and
was known to police.
He is facing multiple charges, including four
counts of break and entering to commit theft, two
counts of possession of stolen property under
$5,000, one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of break in tools, theft
and mischief.
White said the accused primarily targeted businesses and the primary methods used to gain entry were cutting and breaking locks and kicking
in doors. He took tools, fuel and copper wire.
What was extremely beneficial in this case is
where businesses have surveillance and that really helped make these charges successful. In this

particular case, it was very important, she noted.

White said the public can take preventative
measures to safeguard their valuables and possessions but, ultimately, if someones determined,
theyre going to get in.
She said alarm systems and video surveillance
work well and anything helps in these types of
situations, and she recommends ensuring valuables and buildings are as secure as possible.
White acknowledged the importance of different jurisdictions working together in these types
of cases.
A huge thank you to Calgary Police Service for
working with us on this file. I think working together is really important in these types of files
where youve got people who are committing
crimes in more than one jurisdiction, said White.

Donation allows expansion of Rosebud Theatres wardrobe facility

LAUREEN F. GUENTHER
Times Contributor

A donation from long-time Rosebud
Centre of the Arts supporters, Terry and
Laura Bachynski, has enabled Rosebud Theatres wardrobe department
to move out of its cramped, outdated
facility into a spacious, well-equipped
building.
For decades, two small trailers were
crammed with sewing equipment
and thousands of costumes, with limited workspace for staff and Rosebud
School of the Arts (RSA) students who
came to learn costume construction.
The trailers had mice, mould and roof
leaks, but no washroom or laundry.
We would sometimes have five or
six people working in that tiny little
space, said Amy Castro, wardrobe
manager. Youre wanting the help, but
you dont have room for help.
It was difficult to find room to store
things, she said, and stored items
werent easy to access.
The new facility is a building that was
moved into Rosebud, refurbished, and
connected to a building already onsite,
across from the BMO Studio Stage.
I feel so blessed to have this, Castro said, after a few weeks in the new
space. You feel more creative when
you have the room to move and grow.
Just the workshop itself has probably
tripled in size.
The new facility also has washrooms

and laundry.
Terry and Laura Bachynski, whose donation made
the new facility possible,
have a history of supporting
theatre. They met 39 years
ago as actors in Windsor
Light Opera, have attended
Rosebud Theatre for over 30
years and are monthly donors to RSA. Three of their
four adult children also
work in the arts.
Were at the stage in our
life where giving is an important part of our life, Terry said.
Weve had some business
deals that went right and we
just said, We need to give,
Laura added. Because
weve so enjoyed the messages [of Rosebud plays] and
the people that weve met in
Rosebud, we just thought,
and with our background,
this would be a perfect fit.
The mandate of the Rosebud School of the Arts really
resonates with me, Terry
said, to provide a great
learning experience for
young people in a Christian
environment and pursuing
the arts. And I just thought
we could make a difference

in helping make that experience better for the kids that

will go through this school.
They toured the wardrobe
facility several years ago.
We basically felt sorry
for the people who had to
[squeeze] between the costumes, trying to work in
that tiny, tiny space, Laura
said. We thought it would
be wonderful to have the
[students] working in an
environment that perhaps
doesnt have mice or mould.
This is something that is almost tangible for us. We can
not only help someone but
we can see the results of it.
Castro said its affirming
that the Bachynskis recognize and support her role,
and shed like them to know
how much she appreciates
their generosity.
For somebody else to
appreciate us and see the
need, I feel very thankful for
that, she said.
Wed be hopeful that others would say, this Rosebud
School of the Arts is worth
existing and its mandate is
important and we want it to
succeed, Terry said.
Its not just about the

costumes or the sets, Laura

said. Its about the people
who are not only getting an
education in theatre. The
education they get there
is also spiritual and affects
their faith and their hope
and their love. And so its a
full-spectrum school.
The Bachynskis will have

TIME IS THE ISSUE

T.S. Eliot said that Time Present and Time
Past are perhaps both present in Time
Future ... in the light of the Biblical concept
of eternity, I would venture to go even so
far as to take his words as a challenge to
accountability for what we do with the life
weve been given.
According to the Bible, people were not
created to live inside of time. Rather, we
were created by God for Himself: For all
eternity to love and be loved by Him. The
Fall of man (presuming all are familiar
with the story of Adam and Eve) had
consequences for all humankind.
Adam and Eve realized that they were
naked for the first time, after they had
believed Satan that God was holding
out on them. They proceeded to eat
from the forbidden tree (the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil and blessing
and calamity). This tree was placed in
the garden for the sole purpose that they
should have the freedom to choose loving
God. Afterward, they found themselves,
no longer clothed in the radiance of Gods
original nature for man. They had put on a
sin nature. God did not want this to be their
permanent (eternal) state, so He drove
them out of the garden of Eden.
Here we find ourselves now, living in a
fallen world in this place where time is
THE issue.
For we know that the whole creation
groans and suffer together until now.
Romans 8:22
We are unable even to conceptualize
anything which is infinite. When we
think along a singular line (representing
an infinite line), eventually we have to
put down the greater than symbol (>) to
suggest our intention of that line having
no end. We are equally as helpless in fully
grasping the concept of eternity.

If God keeps blessing us,
then were going to keep
giving, Laura said.

Fair to say, the human experience outside

of relationship with the Creator God
who made us for Himself, is confusing at
best. God, who is outside of time (as if
He looks upon time and sees the whole
picture at once) made a plan to win us
back to Himself. He IS love and Love did
not discard humankind for not choosing to
love and trust Him, and for questioning His
goodness. He gave us a second chance
to choose being reunited with Him and
in right-standing through the gift that is
Jesus Christ.
For as through the one man`s
disobedience (Adam) the many were
constituted sinners, even so through the
obedience of the One (Jesus) the many will
be made righteous. Romans 5:19
That choice of being reconciled to the
Father, which has eternal consequences,
is to be made inside of time. The time we
have been given is a precious gift. The
Bible assures us that if we are seeking
God, the Father with all our hearts, He will
be found by us. Not another, posing as
Him. Be encouraged, therefore in your
search for truth.
And just as it is appointed for men once to
die, and after that the judgment, even so it
is that Christ, having been offered to take
upon Himself and bear as a burden the sins
of many once and once for all, will appear
a second time, not to carry any burden of
sin nor to deal with sin, but to bring to full
salvation those who are waiting for and
expecting Him. Hebrews 9:27-28.
We`re here for a good time, not a long
time... (lyrics by Trooper), rings true in
the last part: Not a long time. Time is the
ISSUE. It lasts only for a little while and
then there is eternity.

MELISSA STRLE

Dr. Mike OBrien, along with his
wife Melissa Benassi, recently moved
to Strathmore where Melissa works
as a Grade 4 teacher at Sacred Heart
Academy.
Dr. OBrien joined Strathmore Medical Clinic on Aug. 29. He will be working full time at the clinic and also
working at the Strathmore hospital.
Dr. OBrien was born and raised in
Calgary. He completed his first degree in biology at the University of
Lethbridge. After that, he attended the
four year medical school program at
Queens Medical School in Kingston,
Ont.
From there, Dr. OBrien attended a
two-year residency in Lethbridge in
the rural family medicine program.
During this time, he trained at various
locations including Lethbridge, High
River, Strathmore, Bow Island, Pincher
Creek and Claresholm.
After graduating from the residency
program in Lethbridge, Dr. OBrien
worked in High River as a locum doctor for two months before coming to
Strathmore.
Dr. OBrien has a strong interest in
rural family medicine and first realized he would like to practice family
medicine in a rural town while attending Queens Medical School. He also
always had the idea of coming back to
Alberta to practice medicine.

Harvesting
The process of gathering a ripe crop from the fields. Reaping is the cutting of
grain or pulse for harvest, typically using a scythe, sickle, or reaper.
On smaller farms with minimal mechanization, harvesting is the most laborintensive activity of the growing season. On large mechanized farms, harvesting utilizes the most expensive and sophisticated farm machinery, such as the
combine harvester. The term harvesting in general usage may include immediate postharvest handling, including cleaning, sorting, packing, and cooling.

a summer in which job seekers were

more active than last summer.
According to McBride Career Group
career coach Gaylene Smith, summer is
typically a slower time in the job search
market. She said many children are at
home in the summer, so instead of the
cost of daycare, many parents hold off
a job search until children are back in
school in September.
This summer it slowed down a little
bit, but nothing compared to the summer before, said Smith, adding she has
seen changes in the workforce. We are
having a lot of moms returning back
to the workforce because dads may not
be making the same amount, or dad
was [working in] oil and gas and [got]
laid off.
Youth are also present in the job market. After graduating from high school,
they are taking a gap year and trying
to figure out what they want to do and
trying to find some employment to fundraise for college said Smith.
September is typically one of the busier months at McBride, and Cassi Morris, administrative assistant at McBride,
said things are starting to pick up.
The only issue is a lot of the job
postings are not in the field a lot of
our clientele are in, said Morris. Its
not a lot of oil and gas which is what
Strathmore is built on. Most of our clientele is oil and gas but a lot of our job
postings are more retail. Landscaping
is also a big one this year.
For this reason, Smith said, Its really important that we help the clients
identify transferable skills skills that
they can take from one industry and
apply to another industry.
Smith said there has been a notable
decrease in jobs available this year.
However, forestry and agricultural are
still pretty strong, so theres usually
work in that. Hospitality is another
area that continues to remain strong.
McBride started offering a brand
new program this year: the Targeted
Initiative for Older Workers (TIOW),
with the motto experience counts.
The program offers a focused curriculum, including computer skills,
personal development skills, resume
building, cover letters and job search
for people between the ages of 55 and
64. The program is offered in small
classes and runs for six weeks at no
cost.
We keep the class really small and
that way everyone gets the focus that
they need. The students have a large
say in what they need and what they
want, said Smith. Older workers are

still very active looking for work or

wanting work.
McBride employs coaches who provide one-on-one assistance and more
help. Itinerant coach Deirdre MacLean
travels to outlying communities including Chestermere, Langdon, Standard,
Hussar, Gleichen and Siksika, and provides all the same services one-on-one
in the communities.
McBride also offers services to employers and sets up career fairs and
private job fairs. It recently set up a
job fair for Dollar Tree, accepting application forms and resumes.
McBride moved into its new larger
space at 202 - 2nd Ave in April 2016,
and this allows it to bid on new programs and increase the number of
people that come for job fairs.
The job fair on Sep. 13 will feature
information and programs available
from recruitment officers from the
Department of National Defense, the
RCMP, Bow Valley College and Foothills Immigration Services. The rest of
the fair will be more employment related and some employers will include
Walmart, McDonalds, H&R Block and
Strathmore NEXT.
McBride has been in business since
1987. It operates in Strathmore, Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, High River
and Okotoks. It is provincially and
federally funded and offers all services
at no cost to clients.

Fast Eddy run stops in Strathmore

MELISSA STRLE
Times Reporter
A young B.C. man is helping raise awareness of Alzheimers disease and breast cancer by running across Canada twice.
Eddy Dostaler, 27, left B.C. on March 1,
2015 and arrived in Cape Spear, Nfld. on
Sept. 30. He then flew back to B.C. and drove
across Canada doing school presentations.
On Dec. 9, 2015 he started running again
from Gander, Nfld., making his way back to
Victoria where he hopes to end his run on
Oct. 29 in Victoria.
On Aug. 30, Fast Eddy, as he is known,
made a stop in Strathmore during his There
and Back run. I just thought [the run] was
the right thing to do and to get people on
board to get that awareness out to them,
said Dostaler. Actions speak louder than
words.
Dostaler first came up with the idea to run
across Canada for Alzheimers when he was
15 years old. His grandmother suffered from
the disease and he decided to put his dream
into reality by running in her honour across
Canada.
Dostaler also supports breast cancer research and is running in honour of the late
Dr. Tom Owen, his former professor from
Thompson River University. Dostaler promised the professor that he would give his
best to a worthy cause.
Dostaler has performed over 80 school

presentations along the way and written

over 2,500 letters to children. Letters are
probably the biggest thing that I did, that I
take the most pride in, he said.
Dostaler has been running alone and has
depended on sponsors to help keep him
going, and to cover costs for things such as
a tent, running shoes and clothing. He has
paid for all his food and has kept costs down
by tenting roadside each night.
As for the journey itself, Dostaler said it
has been hard, and 90 per cent mental and
10 per cent physical. Its the everyday, average person that kept this run going for me.
Its been much more difficult than I thought
it would be to break that awareness, he said.
One of the highlights of his trip was when
someone organized and invited him to a
baseball tournament, and he appreciated it
when someone gave him a cup of coffee.
Dostaler says he wont run across Canada
again but, Ill try and keep on inspiring people in some way, shape or form. Anything
to help out. Well keep advocating for breast
cancer, Alzheimers awareness and research
funding.
He encourages all people to help out in
any form possible, even if it is simply helping to spread the word.
All money raised will be directly donated
to local foundations. People can visit fasteddycanada.com to donate to the province of
their choice, or they can donate to directly
support Fast Eddy.

Boyd Lalonde from Sechelt,

B.C. is walking across Canada
for the second time to help
raise awareness of depression.
He expects the journey to take
approximately two and a half
years.
Lalonde, 53, started his journey in Lund, B.C. on Feb. 18,
2016 and passed through Strathmore on Sep. 2. He will finish
the journey in St. Johns, Nfld.
Lalonde said he is focused on
trying to help others. He will
do talks with different mental
health groups along the way
and will also stop and talk with
different individuals.
Every time I meet with somebody and give them advice on
how to overcome a depression
or mental health issue, one of
the first things I say is get outside. Great things happen to
your body when that happens
and the side effect is that youre
actually going to bump into
people. It brings back that social
aspect that you need because a
lot of people have a tendency
to isolate themselves when they
go through a depression, said
Lalonde.
Lalonde embarked on his first
walk in 2013. The purpose of
that walk was to heal from a depression triggered by a separation.
I got to the point where I
tried to kill myself and needed
to make a change, said Lalonde.
I decided to close my businesses and give everything I owned
away and go for a walk to heal.
It saved my life.
Lalonde said he suffered from
depression in isolation for three
years, losing a lot of friends
along the way, because there
are only so many times people
can hear no before they stop
asking you to go out and do
things.
Hopefully I can help people

walk to raise awareness for depression.

who suffered like I did. Id like

to see if I can get into the school
system again to start reaching
out to youth because mental
health has no age discrimination and our youth are affected
by it drastically. Our suicide rate
at that age is really high and its
because they themselves dont
know how to deal with depression. They are afraid to bring it
out in the open, said Lalonde,
who added he would also like
to help schools develop programs targeting depression.
Lalonde cites Bells Lets Talk
program as an excellent program in raising awareness of
mental health issues. The program focuses on raising awareness and encouraging dialogue
about mental health. A lot of the
time, there is a stigma attached
to mental health, he said.
While Lalondes first journey across Canada helped him
overcome his own depression,
he said I think Ill always suffer from depression, I just know
how to deal with it a hell of a lot
better than I used to.
Lalonde welcomes supporters
and any aid that is given to support his walk across Canada. His
blog can be found at canforrest.
