Sofarwehavemettwomethodsforrepresentationoffinitestrain
in2D.ThesearetheMohrcircleandthestrainellipse.Wenow
introduceathirdrepresentation,thatisactuallythebasisforall
thetheoryofthestrainellipseandtheMohrcircle.Thisisa2x2
matrixof4numbersknownasthedeformationgradienttensor,
ormoresimplyasthedeformationmatrixandcommonly
representedwithaboldF.
Wecandrawaunitsquare,andsetupsomeaxessothatit
isattheoriginofagraph.Thesquarewillhavetwo
diagonallyoppositecornersatcoordinates(1,0)and(0,1).
