There are many methods for generating electricity, hydroelectric

power, fossil fuels, nuclear power, geothermal, wind and solar. These
methods all have there advantages and disadvantages. The direction
that the government should take on the energy policy is, to continue
using nuclear power with a mix of green energies. The two green
energies that would work best in Canada are hydroelectric, and wind
energy.
Nuclear Energy is currently the largest contribution of generating
electricity in Canada. In Ontario nuclear energy generates 54.3% of the
energy, while in Canada as a whole it is 18%. The reason for its mass
use is, low costs, little air pollution and it reduces the dependences on
fossil fuels. The advantages are higher than the disadvantages, which
are mainly about its pollution of radioactive materials. Right now the
amount of electricity created is much higher than other forms of
generation at a comparable prices. Nuclear energy is much better
than coal energy because of its low pollution. Although the pollution is
radioactive, there is a very small quantity and if stored correctly pose
no risk. While coal and fossil fuels energy has so much pollution from
the mining and burning of coal and fossil fuels.
Hydroelectric and wave power is a good idea, because Canada
has the largest coastline in the world. Hydroelectric energy is also a
green energy because the world cannot run out of waves. These
coastlines can be used to create electricity through hydroelectricity.
The benefits of using hydroelectricity are that waves are generated
because of the moons gravity. This means that unless the moon is
destroyed wave energy is a constant. The negative to wave energy is
that right now the technology still does not have enough developments
to a point in which it is the most efficient method. Also it is fairly
expensive, to create these machines currently since they are being
researched and developed to be more efficient. Although these are
concerns all of these things can become better
Wind energy is another energy that is a good option. It has
many pros and is currently used in Canada as an emerging green
energy. Wind energy has many pros such as its decreasing prices. The
operational costs are also really low and are getting lower, because the
improvements that are being created to the machines. There are also
cons to wind energy such as its inconsistencies. One day it may be
really windy while on another day there may be no wind at all. The last
con is that the installation is a huge process and costs a lot but in the
long run is worth it. Wind energy in my opinion is better than solar
energy because in the long run wind turbines are more durable than
solar panels. Solar panels in Canada have to be replaced every 5-10

years because of the weather of Canada such as snow and hail. Also
during winter the solar panels are covered by the snow.
