Magis: Why College?

Loyola University Chicago is founded on Jesuit values, which include

critical refection and assessing your past experiences to make meaning
of your future goals. It can be helpful to reflect on your story, values,
and what brought you to Loyola to move forward on a plan for a
successful Loyola Experience. Please answer the following questions in
detail.

Why did you initially decide to go to college?

I wanted a better education not only for my major but also for
myself. I want to increase my knowledge and expand my mindset with
different ideas. I want to achieve my dream of working in the field I
want for myself.

Why are you motivated to pursue a college degree at Loyola

University Chicago?

I am motivated to pursue a college degree because this is a goal

I want to accomplish for my family and for myself. I want to prove to
myself that I can accomplish a big goal as I am in Loyola.

What has been your best experience as a student at the Loyola

University Chicago?

The best experience as a student at Loyola University Chicago is

being a part of the Bridge to Loyola Program.

What are the things you find most challenging being a

student? What helps you overcome these challenges?

What is most challenging for me as a student is having to

commute. The distance is not the challenging part, its the time I have
to participate in the activities in Loyola. I want to be able to be a part
of a few organizations and clubs but I feel it will be a challenge to
participate.

What members of your support system can help you in further

being successful at Loyola University Chicago (friends, family

members, classmates, employers, professor, staff member, advisor,
etc.)?

My parents, sister, my friends, my advisor, and my professors.

Academic Strengths and

Strategies

Learning how to assess your strengths and areas of growth are

important to your academic and personal success in college and
beyond. Take time to reflect on how you approach different academic
settings, study strategies, and academic planning.

It is important to assess your current study habits and how you

want to move forward. Please record the following.

Generally I study _____1.5______ (hours/minutes) a day. Generally I

study _____3______ times per week.

I attend class ___5_____ times per week.

In the future I plan to study: _____2-4_______ (hours/minutes) a day

and ______5________ times per week, and go to class ____5___ times per
week.

In what kind of settings have you identified you are most

productive in studying (e.g. locations, time of day, noise level,
etc.)?

In a quiet environment such as the library or my bedroom. I feel

most productive when I have time between classes and after school.

Do you study best by working in groups or working alone?

What are the contributing factors?

I study best working in groups and working alone. Although I do

prefer going over the subject on my own before I study in a group.

If you have a declared major, what are your primary reasons

for pursuing that academic path? If you do not have a declared

major, what are your academic areas of interest (e.g. classes,

majors, research interests, etc.)?

The major I chose is Business Human Resource Management

because I feel I can best study in that field. Out of all majors Ive been
interested in Business always stood out to me.
