Recipes
Deadline is today to
submit recipes for the church
recipe collection! Either drop off
your favorite recipe(s) in the
basket at the Hospitality Table or send to
lschaffell@earthlink.net.
And we still need artwork! Please have
your little (or not so little) artists bring their
food-themed artwork by the end of the month September 25th (yes, I've extended the date).
These can be dropped off in the large manilla
envelope, also on the Hospitality Table. These

Senior Book Club

This group, which first
began meeting in May of 2004,
met on September 1 at Sybil
Dittberners home to discuss Anthony Doerrs
novel, All the Light We Cannot See, which has
been on the best-seller list for 2 plus years. The
discussion, as always, was lively and the
consensus was that this was a good read
though, at times, the shifting between the
telling of the stories of the two main characters,
a blind French girl and a young orphan who
was first part of the Nazi Youth Movement and
later the German Army, made tracking the
story a challenge.
Our next meeting is Thursday,
November 3 at the home of Pat Hund at 1:30
P.M. We have chosen The Nightingale by
Kristan Hannah. It will be the 75th book our
group has read since we began meeting six
times a year twelve years ago. If youd like to
be part of the Senior Book Club, you are
encouraged to get a copy of this novel and start
reading so youll be ready to join the
discussion on November 3. Ted Adams and Ed
Linberg would be delighted to have some men
join the Sr. Book Club, but new members of the
female gender will always be welcome even if
members of the male gender dont join up!
Looking ahead, the group chose two
additional novels for meetings next year-January 5 and March 2 respectively. The novel
for January is: The Rosie Project. The author is
Graeme Simsion. The novel for March is: A
Man Called Ove. The author is Frederick
Backman.

Spiritual Stewards Committee (formerly

Nominating Committee) meets Sept 12, 6:00
p.m. in the Choir Room
Hospitality & Welcome Chapman Lounge
Sept. 14, 6:30 p.m.
Discipleship Choir Room, Sept. 14, 7:00 p.m.

Call for Clothing

We are in need of mens pants. We
have an abundance of shirts and of
course, always need socks. We are good on
womens clothing at the present time. We
also are out of reading glasses so if you have
spares laying around, we can use them. Also if
you have extra cloth or sturdy plastic
shopping bags that you would like to donate
we would love to have them. They really
appreciate the strong bags. Your donations
are greatly appreciated by the guests at the
meal. Thanks!
Phil

We Own September!
Pathways of Hope
depends on First Christian
Church of Fullerton to donate
food in September to restock staples in their
food distribution pantry. By designating each
month to a different church in Fullerton,
Pathways can maintain a steady supply of food
needed to provide a hand up for hundreds
of families and individuals each month. So
many working families in Orange County
struggle to pay rent, utilities, and buy groceries
because the cost of living is so high here.
Pathways has asked us for these
supplies:
Dried beans
Oatmeal
Canned fruit
Pasta
Peanut butter
Canned meat
Jelly
Crackers
Cereal
Trail mix
Please place your donations in the red
tubs below the Pathways of Hope sign in the
Narthex. Lets fill those tubs to overflowing!
P.S. Did you know that 1/3 of Orange
County youths under the age of 12 live in
povertya higher proportion than LA,
Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego
counties? [From 2015 Orange County
Community Indicators]
Thanks for caring about others.

We Get Letters . . .
Sharon Ellis, President/CEO of
Orange County Habitat for Humanity wrote
the following on August 24:
Thank you for your contribution in
assisting Habitat for Humanity of Orange
County to create a world where everyone has a
decent place to live. Because of your
congregations recent gift of $125, families,
children and veteran community have a place
to call home.
Saundra Bryant, Executive Director of
All Peoples Community Center, Los Angeles,
wrote the following to us:
2016 is an exciting year for All
Peoples. We completed our strategic plan and
it was adopted by our Board of Directors
. . . We received two new mini vans from
Toyota Financial Services and Toyota
Downtown Motors which will enable us to
transport our families and youth to obtain
services or field trips.
. . . It is because of your donation of $105 we
are able to provide a comprehensive wellfounded program in the community.
Because of your generosity we are able
to serve many families who have limited
resources to help themselves. Thanks for your
continuing support.
The full text of both of these letters is
posted on the bulletin board. We encourage
you to take the time to read what your
generous giving is doing in Southern
California.
