Recipes
Deadline is today to
submit recipes for the church
recipe collection! Either drop off
your favorite recipe(s) in the
basket at the Hospitality Table or send to
lschaffell@earthlink.net.
And we still need artwork! Please have
your little (or not so little) artists bring their
food-themed artwork by the end of the month September 25th (yes, I've extended the date).
These can be dropped off in the large manilla
envelope, also on the Hospitality Table. These
will make the recipe book truly a collectable!
Thank you!"
lschaffell@earthlink.net.
We Own September!
Pathways of Hope
depends on First Christian
Church of Fullerton to donate
food in September to restock staples in their
food distribution pantry. By designating each
month to a different church in Fullerton,
Pathways can maintain a steady supply of food
needed to provide a hand up for hundreds
of families and individuals each month. So
many working families in Orange County
struggle to pay rent, utilities, and buy groceries
because the cost of living is so high here.
Pathways has asked us for these
supplies:
Dried beans
Oatmeal
Canned fruit
Pasta
Peanut butter
Canned meat
Jelly
Crackers
Cereal
Trail mix
Please place your donations in the red
tubs below the Pathways of Hope sign in the
Narthex. Lets fill those tubs to overflowing!
P.S. Did you know that 1/3 of Orange
County youths under the age of 12 live in
povertya higher proportion than LA,
Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego
counties? [From 2015 Orange County
Community Indicators]
Thanks for caring about others.

Retreat
The PSWR OAM (Older Adult
Ministry), is holding their third annual adult
retreat November 8 and 9, at Prince of Peace
Abbey in Oceanside, CA. Prince of Peace
Abbey is located on one level. Handicap
accessible. From atop a hill at the Abbey you
will have a beautiful view!!
The theme is: Aging Well: Blessed to
Be a Blessing. Our Retreat Leader is the Rev.
Karen Berns from Pasadena. She is a
Presbyterian Pastor who, in addition to serving
local congregations, has served as a Hospice
Chaplain. She is on the design team for the
New Theological Seminary of Wests
Certificate in Spirituality and Aging and is a
member of the faculty for this program. She
serves on the Ecumenical Committee on
Spirituality and Aging. She has led teams to
both teach and serve in Kenya and Malawi.
This retreat will provide resources for all
people who are concerned about Senior
Ministry in their church and who desire to
grow in their spiritual life.
The registration fee is $85 a person. The
full fee is $120, but each registration is being
subsidized with a gift of $35 from the Older
Adult Ministry Committee. Donna in the office
has registration forms. Registration is on a
"First in" "First served" basis as there is a limit
at 'Prince of Peace' of 40 persons
We Get Letters . . .
Sharon Ellis, President/CEO of
Orange County Habitat for Humanity wrote
the following on August 24:
Thank you for your contribution in
assisting Habitat for Humanity of Orange
County to create a world where everyone has a
decent place to live. Because of your
congregations recent gift of $125, families,
children and veteran community have a place
to call home.
Saundra Bryant, Executive Director of
All Peoples Community Center, Los Angeles,
wrote the following to us:
2016 is an exciting year for All
Peoples. We completed our strategic plan and
it was adopted by our Board of Directors
. . . We received two new mini vans from
Toyota Financial Services and Toyota
Downtown Motors which will enable us to
transport our families and youth to obtain
services or field trips.
. . . It is because of your donation of $105 we
are able to provide a comprehensive wellfounded program in the community.
Because of your generosity we are able
to serve many families who have limited
resources to help themselves. Thanks for your
continuing support.
The full text of both of these letters is
posted on the bulletin board. We encourage
you to take the time to read what your
generous giving is doing in Southern
California.
