[THERMAL SCIENCES / HOMEWORK]

AAE 338 Thermal Sciences

Homework 10
(Due on March 30, 2016 before class)

1. Experimental tests on a portion of the turbine blade shown indicate a heat flux to the blade of

= 95,000 /2 . To maintain a steady-state surface temperature of 800C, heat

transferred to the blade is removed by circulating a coolant inside the blade. Assume
properties are not dependent on temperature.

1) Determine the heat flux to the blade if its temperature is reduced to ,1 = 700 by
increasing the coolant flow.
2) Determine the heat flux at the same dimensionless location for a similar turbulent
blade having a chord length of = 80, when the blade operates in an air-flow at
= 1150 and = 80/, with = 800.
2. The following questions in the textbook
19-8
19-15
19-18
19-20
19-24
