Candidate who have appeared the B.Sc.(Honours/Major) Final Examination


this year, the result of which are yet to be published are also eligible to
apply. They should input the marks of two year (1st & 2nd year) or five(5)
semesters for B.Sc(Hons.) or its equivalent examination and they must have
the minimum eligibility on the basis of the marks secured but they should
submit the final mark-sheet at the time of interview & admission.
For Sports category

Candidates having position 1st/2nd in the Zonal Inter-University competition


or having position 1st/2nd/3rd in the All India/Inter-Zonal Inter-University
competition in the AIU conducted sports/games with minimum percentage of
marks as notified in the eligibility criteria in respective discipline are
eligible to apply for admission under the sports quota.

However, the following criteria will be followed in case of Chess and Tennis
for
admission
under
sports
quota:
For Chess, applicant having the FIDE rating 1700 and above with the
criteria specified above is eligible to apply for admission under the sports
quota.
For Tennis, applicant having the AITA ranking up to 300 for under 18 years
boys/girls or ranking up to 500 for open (Men/Women) category is eligible
to apply for admission under the sports quota. The rating/ranking for chess
& tennis on the day/week of publication of advertisement for admission
under sports quota is applicable.

Certificates of participation in Sports/Games must be obtained from the


competent authorities. Applicant must submit attested photocopies of the
certificates along with a photocopy of bank challan and print out of online
application to the Office of the Dean and the Secretary, Faculty Council of
Science, U.G. Science Building, Ground Floor, Jadavpur University, Kolkata
700032, on or before July 31, 2015 (11 am - 5 pm). Final selection in this
category would be done by the Admission committee.

Selection Procedure For M.Sc.(Day) & M.Sc.(Evening) Courses

For Physics(Day), Physics

Candidates will be selected strictly on the basis


of result of a written admission test.

For Instrumentation

Candidates will be selected on the basis of


results of written test and marks obtained in the
B.Sc. (Honours/ Equivalent) examination. The
selection list will be prepared on the basis of the
weightage on the marks of the admission test
and the B.Sc. (Honours/ Equivalent) examination.
The ratio of weightage on the marks of
admission test and the B.Sc. (Honours/
Equivalent) examination is 60:40.

For Biotechnology

Candidates will be selected strictly on the basis


of results of a two-tier entrance examination
consisting of written test and a viva-voce.
Limited number of candidates from the top of the
interim merit list after written test will be called
for viva-voce. Final merit list will be prepared
on the basis of 70% weightage of the written test
and 30% weightage of viva voce.

SC/ST CATEGORY
As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and letter No.1510-SCW dt.31/05/2007 from the Government
of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of the States other than West Bengal
are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West
Bengal. Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile
certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.

OBC-A/OBC-B CATEGORY
The candidates who will be provisionally selected under the OBC- A and OBC- B
categories must produce an OBC certificate (the date of issue of the certificate
should not be earlier than June 2015 ) issued by the competent authority that
clearly indicates (i) the category (A or B) they belong to; (ii) that they do not
belong to creamy layer of the society, at the time of counselling/ admission.
OBC-A and OBC-B candidates from the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to
get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal. Such
students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years
residency in West Bengal.

Instructions to the Candidates seeking Admission to the M.Sc.(Day & Evening)


Courses: 2016-2017

A student who has obtained the Master Degree in any subject from any

University in Indian is not eligible for admission to the Master Degree course of this
University.

The candidate will need to take a print out of the complete application form and

admit card for each subjects following all necessary instructions. No candidate will be
allowed to enter in the examination hall without admit card.

The employed candidate will need to take a printout of the duly completed

application form and Proforma-A (for school teachers only) or Proforma-B (for employed
candidate other than school teachers), as applicable, in support of their employment.
Filled-in proforma along with application form and photocopy of online payment receipt
(duly authenticated by the bank) shall be submitted to the office of the Dean &
Secretary, Faculty of Science within July 28, 2016 otherwise the application will be
rejected.

Deserving candidates should clearly indicate in the appropriate place of the

application form whether he/ she desires to be considered in the reserved seats, as per
University Rules, for SC/ST/PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports categories. Otherwise they may
miss the opportunity.

The Admission Committee reserves the right of not selecting any candidate who is

considered to be physically unfit or otherwise unsuitable.

The date(s) of interview, the provisonal lists of candidate to be called for

interview and other details of the admission procedure will be published on the website
and on the notice boards of the office of the Faculty of Science. No separate letter for
interview and admission will be issued to any candidate.

Candidates must report each day at the place of interview half an hour before

their respective schedule. Call for interview does not confer the right for admission,
which will cease in respect of each discipline as soon as its prescribed intake is filled.

Failure to appear at the interview on specified date(s) and time shall lead to

rejection of such candidature without further references to them.

Candidates who appear in the interview on the scheduled date and time but

cannot be accommodated within the specified intake in each category will be placed in
the waiting list. Vacancies arising out of cancellation may be filled up from the waiting
list in order of merit.

The candidate will have to bring /submit the following at the time of admission

(if selected) :
(a) Print out copy of the application form.
(b) Online payment receipt
(c) 5 copies of recent passport-size photograph.
(d) Original and attested copies of Marksheets of B.Sc.(Honours/Equivalent)
Part-I,Part-II and final Examinations.
(e) Original and attested copies of Marksheets of Secondary and Higher
Secondary level Examinations.
(f) Original and attested copies of Admit Card/Certificate of Secondary or
equivalent Examination for verification of age.
(g) SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B Certificate in the name of the candidate, P.D.
Certificate (in original and attested copies).
(h) Family Income Certificate from competent authority.

Ragging is totally banned in the Jadavpur University Campus including hostel

premises,and anyone found guilty of ragging and /or abetting ragging is liable to be
punished appropriately. If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority,
the concerned student shall be given liberty to and if his explanation is not found
satisfactory, the authority would expel him from the institution.

Moreover,selected students will be required to submit undertaking as required

under the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational
Institution, 2010 (Regulation No.F.1-16/2007 (CPP-II) dated April, 2009).The
undertakings have to be duly signed by the candidate himself/herself and his/her
parent/Guardian.

Student admitted should have at lest 60% attendance of total classes at the end

of 2(two) weeks counted from the date of commencement of classes /date of admission
of the candidate whichever is later, failing which the studentship will be treated as
cancelled without further reference.

Students from other Universities should have to submit his/her migration

certificate within four months from the date of admission, otherwise his/ her admission
will be treated as cancelled.

Students are to pay their tuition fees at the beginning of the particular session.

Full-free and Half-free studentship to the extent of 15% and 10% respectively of

the total permitted intake may be granted to the deserving students fulfilling all the
eligibility requirements to that effect.

All courses of the University are non-residential. Hostel seats are limited.

Classes will commence on immediately after admission.
