was the creator and distinguished master of the Italian violin concerto.
The present Concertino follows the form of the ltalian concerto. From the rhythmically pregnant
theme in the frrst two measures,a group of eight measuresis developed, which is constantlyrepeated,
-namely, measures18 to 26,4r to 48,and 57 to the end.The returns (Italian: ritornello) of thesegroups
are connectedby intermediate passagesto form the frrst movement. The short secondmovement
takes the form of a "Siciliano",-i. e., a pieceof serenecharacterbasedupon quiet Siciliandancingsongs' Measures13 and 14 of the Siciliano lead into the joyous Allegro assai. The first sixteen
measuresof this Allegro are repeate<lseveraltimes,-namely measures43 to 58,
75 to 9o, and 99
to rr4. Theseare connectedinto a movement by interludal passagesas in the rst Allegro moderato.
