ABOUT NEW YORK

COLONY
New York is part of the 13 Colonies, It was founded by James, the Duke of
York.
1. The name of the colony was changed the New York in honor of the Duke.
When New York colony was founded New York started out its life as New
Netherlands and was founded by the Dutch in 166

Religion The New York Colony was not dominated by a specific religion and
people were free to worship as they chose. There were Catholics, Jews,
Lutherans, and Quakers among others.
3. The landscape of the New York Colony included lowlands, mountains, coastal
plains, and farmland. The mild climate of the New York Colony with cold
winters and not hot summers. This made the climate good for farming. The
cold winters made it more difficult for disease to affect people like it did in the
Southern Colonies where it didnt get as cold in the winter.
4. New York declared its independence on July 9 th , 1776.

5. On April 20th ,1777 New York adopted its constitution
