BACKGROUND
OF THE
STUDY
News about nature
calamities like flood,
can be frequently
heard over television and
radios, and ubiquitously
posted on social
networking sites. Due to
this downcasting
information, the
researchers come up

with developing a device called

Flood Detection
and Warning Device that is more
affordable
than the commercial one which
demands high price. Furthermore,
the reserachers make the
device a lot simplier so that people
can easily
utilize it.

SIGNIFICANCE
OF THE STUDY
The use of this device is very
significant especially on rainy
seasons since it can warn people in
times water is starting to rise
above its normal. The researchers
formulated an idea in which it can
predict
the rising of water in
order to lessen the
casualty rate
due to floods. The researchers
made a simple and practical
equipment designed for the users
convenience.

STATEMENT
OF THE PROBLEM
It is expected that the device
will benefit people by detecting
the rising of
water level.
Additionally, this study aims:
1. To test the device if it is
effective;
2. To determine the distance the
buzzing sound can be heard
and
3. To be able to recognize if the
created device can work as
much as the commercial flood
alarming device

DEFINITION
OF TERMS

BUZZER an electric device that

makes a
loud sound
FLOOD - a large amount of water
covering an area of
land that is
usually dry
WIRE a thread of metal that is
covered
with plastic, rubber etc.
and used to
send or receive
electricity or electrical
signals

SCOPE AND
LIMITATION
The study will be conducted at
San Remigio
National High School. This study
started from
June 2016 and to be performed on
October
2016. This study limits on the
maximum
range the buzzing sound can be
heard.

Abstract
Development of an early warning device that can
detect increase in
flood water level is the primary aim of the study. The
device was developed
using inexpensive and simple in structure materials. In
order to provide early
detection of water level rise, three different alarm systems
were incorporated
in the improvised equipment that
detects 4-in, 8-in and 12-in increase in water level.
Pilot
testing of the device was done at flood prone areas of Cavite
National High
School. Test results from the prototype system showed that the
flood alarm device achieved the design requirements. Also, the
siren sound of the device can be heard
up to 35 m away from the flood alarm. Using the increase in
flood level measured,
inside and outside the school, a flood warning system was
developed as a guide for students, teachers and employees
during flood events in the school vicinity.

Improvised flood alarm device is comparable to commercially

available devices in
terms of providing real-time flood level alerts and sensitivity to
water. This early
warning flood indicator is one way of saving properties and
keeping individuals safe during flood disasters. The simplicity
and practicality of the equipment designed was considered for
future replication and modification by household, school and
barangay community frequently affected by coastal floods.

ABSTRACT
Nowadays, nature events are
dramatically happening and are
unexpected. One of those is flood
which is caused by natural and human
activities. Flood destroys properties
and harms.
It causes tragedy to unprepared
individuals.
These, lead the researchers to
develop the
Flood Detection and Warning
Device that
will detect the rising of water level
and send warnings through buzzers.
The researchers use wood, hanger
clip, two empty bottles, batteries
and buzzer. With the above-mentioned

materials, the researchers are able to

build the device.

AND ITS SCOPE

REVIEW OF
RELATED
LITERATURE
FLOOD
Floods can also occur in rivers when the
flow rate exceeds the capacity of the river channel,
Particularly at bends or meanders in the waterway. Floods
often cause damage to homes and businesses if they are in
the natural flood plains of rivers. Some floods develop slowly,
while others such as flash floods, can develop in just a few minutes
and without visible signs of rain. Additionally, floods can be local,
impacting a neighborhood or community, or very large, affecting entire
river basins.

FLOOD FORECASTING
In order to make the most accurate flood forecasts for waterways,
it is best to have a long time-series of historical data that relates
stream flows to measured past rainfall events. Coupling this
historical information with real-time knowledge about volumetric
capacity in catchment areas, such as spare capacity in reservoirs,
ground-water levels, and the degree of saturation of area
aquifers is also needed in order to make the most accurate flood
forecasts.Radar estimates of rainfall and general weather
forecasting techniques are also important components of good flood
forecasting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flood

FLOOD WARNINGS
A flood warning system is a way of detecting threatening events in
advance. This enables the public to be warned en masse so that
actions can be taken to reduce the adverse effects of the event.
As such, the primary objective of a flood warning system is to reduce
exposure to coastal flooding. Linham and Nicholls (2010).
