The Presbyteral Ordination of Rev. Apollo P. Canoy

Rudger Graceel Cahulogan

On Tuesday, June 7, 2016,

Rev. Apollo P. Canoy was
ordained to the priesthood
by Archbishop Antonio J.
Ledesma, SJ,D.D., with the
concelebrating priests at
San Vicente Ferrer Parish,
Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City.
In his homily, Archbishop
Ledesma,
reminded the
congregation
that
being
a priest means being a
representative of God. God
chose him to be His presence,
to let people know that
God is dwelling in them, to
guide them according to the
teachings of the Church, and
to let them feel that they have
an intercessor before God.
Rev. Fr. Canoy thanked his
family, his siblings, relatives,
and the people who helped
him while in the seminary for
the past twelve years. He is

especially grateful to his aunt

Lisette who stayed and did not
leave them after the death of
his father. Malipayon kaayo
ko nga nahuman ra gyud ang
iyang bokasyon bisan tuod pa
man nga gipangandam gyud
na niya alang sa among mga
ginikanan nga sila karon patay
na, nga sa ilang kamatayon,
nakapadayon gihapon siya
sa iyang pag-eskwela aron sa
paghalad ug serbisyo sa sa
Dios ug sa iyang katawhan. Di
gyud nako masabot ang akong
kalipay sa pagsaksi sa iyang
pagkapari bisan wala na ang
akong ginikanan.
Nasayud
gyud ako nga ang among mama
ug papa malipayon karong
adlawa, said Apolrio Canoy,
the younger brother of Rev.
Fr. Canoy. The newly ordained
priest will be assigned in Sta.
Rita de Cascia Parish, Gingoog
City.

on Marriage and Family. By
Gods grace, the institute has
been operational for more than
ten years and was granted the
status Centro Associato, a step
towards becoming a section of
the Pontifical Institute of Rome.
Recognized by the CBCP,
the National Institute proposes
to deepen the awareness of the
truth about marriage and the
family in the light of the nuptial
theology and Theology of the
Body of Saint John Paul II with the
aid of various human sciences.
Through scientific study and
research on the human person,
marriage and family, the institute
aims to train priests, religious
and lay people in the exercise of
a more qualified ministry.
The Summer Study in
Bacolod was a worthwhile
experience for all the delegates.
They not only gained insights
and knowledge from the subjects
learned at the feet of very
effective professors but also from
the camaraderie they felt through
the fine culture of the
Bacolodnons.
They
are grateful to the
very generous support
and hospitality of Rev.

Pastoral Assignments (June 2016 May 2019)

After several consultations, I am happy to announce the new pastoral assignments for the next three years. The movement
to new assignments should be done during the last week of May.
The Endorsement Papers for the Turn-Over of Parishes and Chaplaincies should be duly accomplished for the formal
turn-over from outgoing to incoming parish priest. This should be witnessed by parish council leaders and the Vicar Forane or a
representative of the Archbishop.
I would like to thank all outgoing parish priests and parochial vicars for their past contributions to the life and evangelization
of our local church communities. At the same time, I welcome them to their new assignments in the Lords vineyard. Regardless
of station, we all share the mission of tending one flock and working in the name of one Shepherd.

ACDO BEC holds Pastoral Year Planning

Sweet Kristine Ace G. Adorio

The BEC is not just an activity

or program. It is a way of life. Thats
why the archdiocesan Basic Ecclesial
Community (BEC) are grateful that the
programs for the Pastoral Year 20152016 were successfully done. On May
18, 2016, the Archdiocesan BEC Pastoral
Planning 2016-2017 was conducted at
Water Delight Resort, Jasaan, Misamis
Oriental with 80 BEC formators coming
from different parishes in the 10
Vicariates of the Archdiocese. It was
hosted by St. Francis de Assisi Vicariate.
The day started with the
Eucharistic celebration presided by Rev.
Fr. Julius B. Clavero, SSJV, Archdiocesan
BEC Director. In his homily, he stressed
the most prominent challenges for
the Year of Mercy. He expressed
his heartfelt gratitude for the BEC
formators perseverance and effort in
responding to the call of implementing
the programs of BEC. The mass was
offered together with deep faith and
joy, asking for the grace of a renewed
commitment of BEC leaders to serve
more.
One of the topics tackled in the
planning was an overview of the
CBCP theme for 2017: The Parish
as Communion of Communities. Fr.
Clavero encouraged the vicariate BEC
formators to initiate BEC assemblies in
the vicariates as well as in the parishes
to promote the grand celebration for
2017. He recognized the things needed
to prepare for the Archdiocesan BEC
Family Day on October 21-22, 2016,

which was formally

accepted by the host,
Sta. Rita de Cascia
Vicariate. The theme
of the said event is
related to the Year of
Mercy.
The
suggested
activities for this
pastoral year should
have a significant
response
to
the
message of the Holy
Father, Pope Francis,
for the Year of Mercy.
An example of this
is a simultaneous
schedule of feeding
programs
in
the
vicariate or according
to the needs of the
parishes. Moreover,
the ACDO BEC Director
stressed to initiate
activities based on the
Corporal Works of Mercy starting from
the month of June to September until
the culmination of the Year of Mercy.
Fr. Lyndon Zayas, Divine Mercy
Vicariate
BEC
Priest
In-charge,
highly recommended that proper
documentation of activities be made
and presented during the ACDO Family
Day 2016. The group agreed to submit
their plan of activities on the Corporal
Works of Mercy. The was a spirited
discussion and much interaction as they
shared different ideas for the priority
programs needed this pastoral year.
During the planning, some

Bible Apostolate Conducts

Bible Study for Lay Ministers

Bro. Cleb Calimutan, one of the lectors

Fr. Demli Valmores, SSJV, Bible

Apostolate director in Cagayan de Oro,
together with Fr. Butch Zayas, SSJV,
parish priest of Our Lady of Snow
Parish, started a monthly Bible study for
Lay Ministers. The activity was geared
to give an orientation to extraordinary
ministers of holy communion about the
Bible, and for them to learn and love
Holy Scriptures.
Bro. Cleb Calimutan was assigned
to give one of the series of lectures.
The first topic was an introduction
and background of the Bible, including
Church pronouncements concerning the

Word of God. The attendees were aware

that they have to be patient because
studying the Bible needs time and
a-step-by-step process.
The said lay ministers visit
different chapels once a week to conduct
Katilingbanong Pag-ampo (Community
Prayer). Their knowledge of the Bible
is therefore very important and they
expressed their need to be better
equipped since they encounter different
people who are hungry of the Word of
God. There are even circumstances when
they are questioned about the faith and
the Bible. (Bag-ong Lamdag News)

dignity of the human person which is

connected to the freedom of communication.
He further reminded everybody about the
moral elements in the works of media as one
of their responsibilities. The event included
an agape, trivia questions and parlors games
that animated and gave joy to all the media
men and women who attended the event.

Cagayan de Oro Celebrates Press Freedom Week

The Social Communication Ministry

joined the one week celebration of Press
Freedom in Cagayan de Oro City. The
Archdiocese sponsored an event on May 25,
2016, inviting all media outlets in the city.
Msgr. Elmer Abacahin, SSJV, formally
introduced all the components of the Social
Com. from TV and Radio in-charge followed
by the presence of print media who are
involved in the LAMDAG publication to all
the members of the Cagayan de Oro Press
Club.
Msgr. Persius Cabunoc, SSJV, the
Cathedral Rector, delivered the welcome
address and cited the different good
experiences of the Church and the
mass media in the Archdiocese. A video
presentation about the history of the
Archdiocese and the recent Catholic media
activities was also shown.
One of the invited guests was Bishop
Ledesma whose message was an inspiration
to all who were present. He stressed the

concerns were raised and answered

directly by the different BEC priests
who were present that day. There was
a question about how to sustain BEC
formators and members to participate
well in their church involvement. The
appropriate recommendations are

Parish BEC monthly in-service or
conducted visitation for members can
be also an effective tool. It would also
be good that if there is any related BEC
activities, the ACDO BEC formators
or Vicariate BEC leaders are invited
to grace the occasions. Through the

discussions, the group assessed the

programs that need to be addressed
efficiently and the ways of effective
implementation to the grassroots.
At the end, they heard words of
gratitude from the different BEC priests
in-charge and the encouraging message
by Rev. Fr. Harnifer Godinez, SSJV,
Assistant ACDO BEC Director. The BEC
parish coordinators received a simple
token and a certificate. They were
also equipped to face new challenges
as they go back to their respective
parishes, with renewed commitment
and dedication.

The Holy Cross Parish in Alubijid,

Misamis Oriental celebrated the 4th
anniversary of the dedication of the
altar and church on May 2, 2016. From
the early days of the Church basilicas,
oratories and churches were offered
to God. This annual event was first
solemnized by Abp. Antonio J. Ledesma,
SJ, DD.
Rev. Fr. Cleto Taajura, SSJV
celebrated the Mass this year. In his
homily, he said: If you do not experience
suffering, you have not followed Jesus.
The people in the church were grateful
for so many blessings. Fr. Cleto was the
former parish priest in the town and
his presence symbolized the mercy of
God.
The event was followed by the
celebration of the fiesta on May 3,
2016. The church was crowded with
people coming from remote chapels

of the town and barangays. Another

guest priest presided the Mass: Fr.
Medallo Valmores, SSJV with Msgr.
Elmer Abacahin, SSJV, PC, the parish
priest, Fr. Amy Balacuit, SSJV and Fr.
FRancis Burlat, SSJV a native of the
place. During the homily Fr. Valmores
said: It is on the cross where God fully
manifested his love for mankind. It is on
that wood that Jesus accepted the pain
and sufferings to set us free from our
own burdens in life, especially when
we encounter personal problems.
Other programs of the fiesta
include the comedy show from Cebu
headed by Fil Eboran, a well-known
stage comedian. The spirit of love and
sharing was so noticeable as many
parishioners shared their blessings
to accommodate numerous visitors. It
was indeed a joyful event, especially
when the politicians set aside their
partisan identities and joined hands for
the celebration.

Oro City, Mayo 1, 2016. Ang santos
nga Misa gipangunahan ni Arsobispo
Antonio J. Ledesma, SJ, D.D. uban nila ni
Msgr. Rey Monsanto, ang kura paroko,
Fr. Ronald Ledesma, ug Fr. Roger
Almonia.
Diha sa iyang homiliya, nag-ingon
si Abp. Ledesma nga usa ka hagit sa
tanan nga makasaksi sa pagtoo pinaagi
sa Esperitu Santo. Sama kang San
Isidro Labrador usa ka yano nga mag-

uuma, ug sa iyang kinabuhi gipakita

niya ang panig-ingnan o modelo sa
tanang mag-uuma.
(Bagong Lamdag News)

KulitogKulitog aron lami. KulitogKulitog aron wala lang, basta KulitogKulitog lang. Ambot kon
unsay maabot o kaha basing maibot sa sobrang KulitogKulitog. Asa may imong ganahan ikaw ang
gaKulitogKulitog o ikaw ang ginaKulitogKulitog? OfkorzzzzzzAng KulitogKulitog bow!
Aaaang kkkkulllliiitttttogkkkkullllliiiiittttog.heheheheeh! Ang KulitogKulitog bow! Hahahahahah!
Hinaut unta heheheheh!). Sa pagklase na daghan pud:
daghang lessons, daghang subjects, daghang assignments, daghang exams, daghang projects,
daghang classmates, daghang friends, daghang teachers, daghang lakwatsa, daghang kinopyaha
ug dayon daghan pong problems. (Dili ba Learning is Fun kuno! Heheheh!)
nakatonan pud?). Dili ba lisud bya ang malimot nga wala poy angay nga kalimtan?Sulayi daw g
hinumdom ang wala diha____________________________. (hehhehehheh! WALA DA?)
(close open! close open! beautiful eyes beh! Wow! kagwapa liwat nako puera buyag! Smile! Smile!
Smile! Show your teeth beh! strong! strong! strong! Oyyh!oyyh!oyyh!).Nakadumdom ka? Wa gyud
kay wa pa man kay buot sa una.Hahaha! Daghan kaayo ang gaKulitogKulitog nato gikan pa
sa atong lolo, lola, inahan, amahan, igsoon, paryenti, higala, silingan, magtutudlo, tanud, lupon,
politiko, huwes, negosyante, katekista, pastor, pari, obispo, madre, Santo Papa ug daghan pa..
Sa kadaghan unta nga gaKulitogKulitog ug ginaKulitogKulitog kanato aduna kaha kitay lig-on
ug batakang kahibalo bahin sa Ginoo nga atong ginadaladala sa kanunay? Ang kahibalo nga unta
anaa puparihas kanatong tanan.
Aha pa man diay kasagaran?
KulitogKulitog aron makapangayo
kitag pasaylo sa Dios. KulitogKulitog aron mabuotan. KulitogKulitog aron makahatag sa kabus.
KulitogKulitog aron makabuhat og maayo. KulitogKulitog aron maghigugma. KulitogKulitog
aron maluwas. KulitogKulitog aron abot sa langit. KulitogKulitog abot na ba?

20th Intercongregational Forum of Novices Held

Nov. Julerose V. Sotomayor and Junelyn L. Indoc

The 20th Intercongregational

Forum of Novices was held at MCM
Central
House,
Impalambong,
Malaybalay City on April 3 to May
4, 2016 with the theme: Formation
in Relation to the Family and the
Eucharist.
The month-long event was
participated by 16 novices of different
congregations from Visayas and
Mindanao namely: Missionary Sisters
of the Holy Family (MSHF), Cagayan de
Oro City; Missionary Sisters of Mary
(MCM) and Medical Mission Sisters
(MMS), Malaybalay City; Religious
Sisters of Mercy (RSM) Iligan and
(RSM), Tacloban; Handmaids of Christ
the King (HCK), Bohol; Missionary
Sisters of Mary (MSM), Butuan City;
and Sisters of Our Lady of the Triumph
of the Cross (MSLOTC), Ozamis.
Sr. Vingie Dumaluan, MSHF
Formator said: This gathering of
novices was to meet the demands and
challenges of Religious Life in the local
church of Northern Mindanao and
Visayas with specific objectives:
To witness to the universality of
the Church and to have a common
formation;
To give opportunities to smaller
Religious Institutes of few and

limited novices to avail to current

theological,
psychologicalspiritual updating;
To integrate socio-cultural and
ecological dimension of the life
and service of the Church both
local and global;
To challenge young religious to
the prophetic living of the vows;
and
To experience wholesome and
wider community relationship.
This gathering usually happens
once every two years. The 1st InterCongregational Forum of Novices
happened in the year 1972 with three
congregations who paved the way:
Missionary Sisters of Mary (MSM),
Butuan City; Missionary Congregation
of Mary (MCM), Malaybalay City; and
the Congregation of SISM.
This years Forum was inspired
by Pope Francis proclamation of the
Jubilee year of Mercy and his Encyclical
letter, The Joy of the Gospel. The
topics discussed were: Personality
and Human Relations by Ms. Carmen T.
Sayo, TA; Human Sexuality in Christian
Perspective by Sr. Airene Torres,
RA; Religious Life and Vows and
The Theology of Mission by Bishop
Emeritus Honesto Ch. Pacana, SJ,
D.D.; Religious in Women Perspective
and Community Life by Sr. Rowena J.

Ma. Chloee Marlowe Alaba

Mitambong sila si Kent Philip

Eduave ug Ma. Chloee Marlowe Alaba, sa
Pastoral Training on Human Sexuality
and HIV/AIDS niadtong Marso 1719, 2016, sa Pinnacle Hotel and Suite,

Davao City.
Ang nagpasiugda sa maong
training mao ang CBCP- Episcopal
Commission on Health Care ug ang
Philippine National AIDS Council
Secretariat Department of Health
nga mao sila si Rev. Fr. Rodolfo Dan V.
Cancino, Jr., MI ug ang iyang kaubanan
sa ministeryo nga adunay kasingkasing
sa mga tawong adunay sakit sa HIV/
AIDS.
Ang immunodeficiency syndrome
(AIDS) usa ka sakit nga makuha tungod
sa human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV). Tungod sa luya nga immune
system, ang HIV motakboy sa tawo
hinungdan sa sakit. Apan dili kini
makatakod pinaagi sa paggamit sa baso
o kutsara ug sa iyang mga gamit. Kini
tibuok kalibutan.

These talks served as food for
the novices and gave them greater
knowledge to internalize in their
daily lives. It also deepened their
understanding of their vocation and
challenged them to respond Gods
personal call.

The San Isidro Labrador Parish

at Medina celebrated the feast day of
their patron with all the people who
are devoted to the Saint. They had
various activities, first and foremost,
were the Eucharistic celebrations, along
with processions, mass weddings and
baptisms. Fr. Rufino Cabatingan, the
parish priest, explained that unity and
cooperation were their motivation and
strength for the development of the
parish. He also narrated that the recent
political elections divided the people
for a while. Now that the elections are

over, it is time to unwind from the stress

they had and bring back the spirit of
joyfulness brought by the spirit of San
Isidro.
Together with his assistant priests
and the parishioners they are also
preparing for the scheduled reshuffling
of assignments, in case they might be
sent to new parishes. Fr. Cabatingan also
said that humility, prayer and patience
are some of the virtues of the patron
saint that the people may imitate in
following Jesus. (Bag-ong Lamdag News)

St. Rita de Cascia 120th Fiesta Celebration at Gingoog

Gingoog is a small city with a
big heart and devotion. This is the
experience of many visitors who come
to this eastern part of the Archdiocese
for more than a century celebration
of their fiesta. Fr. Meds Valmores, the
parish priest, shared a lot of things
about the parish an interview. He said
that he and his assistant priests help
each other in celebrating masses in the
68 chapels of the parish, not counting
the six masses they celebrate every
Sunday. The people showed great
support for the parish specially in
buying a generator sufficient to power
all the church buildings, to avoid Mass
disruptions and also the convent and
formation center. Furthermore, the
parishioners shared their blessings in
order to support the incoming church
renovations which cost millions.
One of the exciting historic events
in the parish was the assignment
of Bishop Camomot who might be
the next Filipino saint. He dedicated
the erection of the church which
remains as his legacy in the heart of

the people. Fr. Meds added

that the Columban Fathers
mission activities helped a
lot in the formation of the
parishioners and moulded
their faith by making the
church become a part of
their lives. The parish priest
also encouraged those who
come for the fiesta to avail
of the indulgence on this
Year of Mercy through the
Holy Door in the parish
church.
Finally,
for
the
devotees of St. Rita, her
relic is preserved in the
church and is venerated
every
Thursday.
She
was a humble saint who
became a nun through an
impossible process, but
nothing is impossible with
God. In fact a lot of devotees
experienced the powerful
intercession of the Saint of
the impossible.
