ABSTRACT
One of the major problems currently faced by the building and construction industry
is the deterioration of performance of various forms of concrete structures. It is estimated that
in most of the countries, the infrastructure / built environment represents around 50% of the
national wealth. In this paper reveals that to study about the flexural strengthening of pre
damaged reinforced concrete beams. Strengthening is made by glass fibre reinforced polymer
(E glass fibre - chopped strand mat) laminates. In this study, a total of eight beams of size
of 1600mm x 100mm x 150mm are casted. From that eight beams two beams are considered
as conventional beams and remaining six beams are going to be damaged by applying 50% of
ultimate load. Glass fibre reinforced polymer laminate is consist of three different layers are
used. The pre damaged beams are strengthened with GFRP laminate using bonding agent as
epoxy resin. The strengthening beams are tested by flexural strength test and the comparison
of result is made between the conventional beams and strengthening beams.
Key words: CSM, GFRP, concrete beams, laminates, strengthening and epoxy resin.
