From 15.4" (39 cm) to 22" (56 cm) circumference, unstretched, unblocked

White whiskers is a cute hat that will inspire all

cat lovers.
With their back to us and small pointed ears,
these little felines show nice white whiskers that
contrast well with the background.

White whiskers is knit either with Cascade Yarns

Cascade 220 Sport, or leftovers of sport weight
yarns.
This hat is worked in the round and may be
topped with a pompom. A folded hem is knit in
the round, then attached to the main piece by
knitting cast-on stitches together with live
stitches -no need of provisional cast-on.
You will knit the tails while working the hem,
and you will embroider whiskers at the end;
however, it is easy to do. Three tutorials with
photos are included to help you.
Directions are both written and charted.

Nota: the hat shown in Doe p.2 is a prototype. Tails

were knit together with the cats, then sewn on the
hem. Instructions are different.

Stranded knitting make pieces less stretchy. It is

important to choose a hat circumference close to
the head circumference. The negative ease should
be lesser than usually.
Take care to your gauge; the finished size of your
hat depends on it. To get the recommended gauge,
change your needle size, or change the number of
sts to cast on (multiple of 13 or 14 sts).
Stretch regularly the stitches on your right needle
when you switch between colors to prevent
tightening. This is fundamental. You may also work
the stranded knitting section using US 6 - 4 mm
needles if you tend to tighten too much.
You may carry the unworking yarn over 7 sts
before catching it keeping floats flexible enough. If
this seems difficult for you, cross your yarns over
each other every 4 or 5 sts in the same color.
Personally, I often knit 8/9 sts without crossing yarns.

stitch; I slip the last stitch on the right needle to the

left one, then I place a marker on the right needle,
and I knit the first 2 stitches on the left needle
together.

Head sizes show large variations within the same

range of ages. The following table is designed to
give you a rough idea about sizes. So, if you can,
determine the head circumference of the recipient
and choose the size that fits also to your gauge; the
height should be adapted if necessary.
Size

16.5" (42 cm)

17.7" (45 cm)

Do not cross yarns at the same point every row
(vertically); shift crossings by 2 or more sts every

Cast on: I recommend the long tail cast-on
method or the long tail thumb method. Join in the
round keeping the last cast-on st on the right
