2a-12

For Management and Operations

Automatic Route Selection (ARS)
The ARS is an intelligent routing mechanism designed for multi-carrier and multi-site
environments to force the most cost-optimized route depending upon the dialed
number, and select an alternative path when the most appropriate is overloaded. ARS
is fully transparent for the user: the system automatically takes care of dropping
and/or adding the necessary digits (prefix, suffix, over-dialing, ...) to reach the right
carrier, without requiring the user to change his numbering habits. ARS is available
for any type of terminal connected on the OmniPCX Office.
ARS is invoked in all dialing modes:
Manual dialing,
Automatic dialing, (call keys, individual and common speed dialing, redial,
caller's repertory),
External forwarding.
ARS is programmable according to the time and day:
7 modes per time range (week, week-end, holidays for instance),
24 time ranges.
ARS is applicable:
To any type of trunk bundle (public/private),
Regardless of the type of media (analogue/digital),
To any type of call (voice/data),
To VoIP (toll by pass).
Direct and indirect accesses to carriers are provided (except for GAP and S0 sets in
indirect access only).
ARS overflow on busy carrier.
Number maximum of entries in the ARS table (number modification mechanism):
3000.
OmniPCX Office Management Console (OMC)
This integrated high-performance console allows easy management of all features of
the OmniPCX Office (Users parameters, Date and time, Collective speed dial,) on
a day-to-day basis and with a user-friendly interface.
(see further details in chapter 12-Management Tools)

2a-13

Remote Management OMC or Alcatel-Lucent 4760 MCS Edition

Thanks to OMC and the Secure Access Server (https connection), OmniPCX Office can
be easily managed remotely with no restriction and a highest bandwidth than the 2B
ISDN connection.
Furthermore, Alcatel-Lucent 4760 MCS Edition and the OMC integration provide a
powerful OmniPCX Office installed base management with pro-active maintenance
(IP alarm monitoring), delivered new services such as traffic analysis, Voice over IP
performance, . and finally delivers automatic customer reporting.
Call accounting over IP (optional)
The new on the fly metering is based on XML interface over IP. The call
accounting over IP allows the connection to a third party application (AAPP) and
provide metering reporting and/or analysis.
The call accounting over IP is an alternative to the former V24 interface module.
This features required a software license to activate the functionality.
NMC Tickets
OmniPCX Office allows to store up to 30 000 NMC tickets (1000 by default). The NMC
tickets provide information on each outgoing and incoming calls and are handle by
Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista 4760 Standard Edition in order to publish metering and
traffic analysis reporting.

SECTION 4: IP Infrastructure Hardware

Introduction
Alcatel-Lucent provides Small and Medium Businesses with high-performance and affordable
Ethernet switching equipment to deploy Power-over-Ethernet and true plug-and-play
connectivity for IP phones, WLAN access points and other campus networking devices.
The OmniStack 6200 is the first of a series of wired and wireless, highly available, and
secure IP infrastructure equipment.

OmniStack LS 6200 (OS-LS 6200) Family

The OmniStack 6200 switches are 10/100 Fast Ethernet switches that provide advanced
services for small to large IP infrastructure deployment. They support advanced quality of
service and security for triple play applications (outstanding data, voice and video
quality) in a secure environment with advanced user and traffic classification capabilities.
A compact, one rack-unit (1 RU) height form factor, all in one stackable design, and a
comprehensive set of features makes the OmniStack 6200 family perfect for the following
applications:
Small Enterprise workgroup connectivity
Large Enterprise LAN wiring closets
Edge deployments and branch offices
Ubiquitous power over Ethernet
Beyond the Fast Ethernet ports, every OmniStack-LS 6200 switch comes complete with two
10/100/1000 copper ports. This ports can be used with standard Ethernet cables for either
fault-tolerant stacking with other 6200 unit or as standard Gigabit ports in a standalone
configuration. It doesnt stop there; each OS-LS 6200 switch also comes with two additional
Gigabit combo ports that provide gigabit access for upstream connectivity to the network or
to high-speed servers.
A stack of OmniStack 6200 can consist of a maximum of to 8 switches. A stack can go up to
384 10/100 fast Ethernet ports and 16-gigabitports. The management of the stack is made
easy through the concept of virtual chassis, where the full stack, for ease of management
purposes, has one unique IP address and behaves as a single chassis.

2a-30

Six Alcatel-Lucent OmniStack 6200 models are currently available:

management costs.

2a-31

Selling the value of OmniStack 6200

OmniStack high availability value
The OmniStack 6200 comes with a rich set of features that improves the stack availability. .
The switch itself supports power supply redundancy.
Setup as a (virtual) chassis in a stack, the first switch becomes the manager of all switches,
while the second is standby to become manager. The connection of the switches in the
stack is via a daisy chain where breaking this loop (chain) will be automatically redirect
traffic to preserve existing data connections.
At the network element interworking level, the OmniStack supports many layer 2 standards
that help rapid network re-convergence: : IEEE 802.1w Rapid Reconfiguration spanning tree
protocol, IEEE 802.1s Multiple instance Spanning Tree Protocol, IEEE 802.1D Spanning Tree
Protocol, IEEE 802.3 Link Aggregation Control Protocol.
OmniStack 6200 security value
The OmniStack 6200 is secure out of the box with the security by default setup. Initially, for
management, all TCP and UDP ports are closed except the console port. The OmniStack
6200 contains the latest software code against Denial of Service and other similar attacks.
Last, but not least, the OmniStack 6200 can provides authentication of end systems through
mac-addresses and IEEE 802.1X supplicants and authentication of network managers via
RADIUS and TACACS support.
OmniStack 6200 manageability
The OmniSwitch 6200 provides three ways of management:
- An industry standard CLI provides the telnet (SSH) and console mode of configuration
- A web interface for configuration with HTTP(s)
- SNMP v1, v2c and V3 support for network management systems
