Curriculum for PRE-SCHOOL

(sample)
Learn Every DayTM: The Preschool Curriculum is a resource that helps both
new and seasoned teachers create environments that optimize learning. The
curriculum includes two volumes containing a total of 36 units, and each unit
consists of five lessonsideas for a full years worth of exploration! Each
volume is packed with multisensory activities for all learners and hopefully
will spark teachers creativity with suggestions for books, songs, and centers.
A music CD with original songs by Sharon MacDonald rounds out the
curriculum package.

Learn Every DayTM: The Preschool Curriculum, Volume 1, Units 118
Filled with activities, songs, chants, and opportunities to experience quality
childrens literature, each unit is designed to meet national standards for
early education. Goals and objectives, as well as extended learning
opportunities, are built into each unit.
Learn Every DayTM: The Preschool Curriculum, Volume 2, Units 1936
From learning about our green Earth to exploring the world around us, these
units offer opportunities for children to learn in large, small, and individual
settings. Based on the idea that children learn best when they use all their
senses, each unit was designed with all types of learners in mind.
Each of the 36 units includes the following information:
Unit Overview, which describes in detail what the unit is all about. For
example, the Unit Overview for Unit 2: Learn Every Day about Me says:

There are many ways in which people are similar and many ways in which
they are different. All people have bodies, thoughts, and feelings that are
their own. Even though the way a person looks on the outside may change,
that person remains the same person on the inside. Sharing ideas and
feelings with others helps us learn about our friends and ourselves. In this
unit, the children will learn about their own bodies and their emotions, as
well as the things that make them the same as or different from other
children. They will understand how growing works and that there are some
things about growing that you just cannot change.
Vocabulary: the key vocabulary children will be exposed to within each unit
Objectives for each of the following domains: Arts & Creativity
Cognitive Skills
Communication
Literacy
Mathematics
Personal Health & Development
Science Constructs
Social & Emotional Skills
Social Studies
DLL Tip Each childs home language is a significant part of his identity.
Learning about Me is a topic that depends on the teachers ability to
recognize and support that language. After the child is enrolled, get to know
the family and learn what languages are spoken in his home (there may be
more than two), and learn what versions or dialects are used so you can
celebrate each child accurately without making assumptions.
Comprehensive Resource List: books for the teacher, books to share with
the children, music, and websites.
Special Needs Adaptations: a variety of suggestions that are easily
incorporated into the classroom routine.
Social and Emotional Tips: suggestions on how teachers can bolster
students social and emotional well-being (key to their resiliency and ability
to overcome adversity) while helping classroom management.
Learning Extensions: At the end of each unit, teachers will find an Extend
the Learning activity. If a teacher wants to expand on this unit or add an
additional project, this activity is designed to meet that need. You can
recognize the Extend the Learning activity by the giraffe depicted in the
upper left corner.
Five Lesson Plans: include a comprehensive materials list and activities:
Large group
Transition tip
Small group

Learning centers: This includes a small-group activity, which can be used to

differentiate instruction or work intensively with a few children. Within these
activities, you will discover both traditional and nontraditional centers.
Outdoor activities: To meet the needs of all programs, many of the lessons
also contain outdoor activities. While those are labeled outdoor activity
center, the authors recognize that many programs take children outside in a
large group. Unlike the other learningcenter experiences, the outdoor
learning center activities are easily adapted for large- or small-group
participation.
Closing circle: Designed to help children reflect on the new material they
have been introduced to during the lesson, this activity enables them to
verbalize what they learned that day, thus building vocabulary and helping
them transfer the information from shortterm memory to long-term memory.
Home stretch: An activity designed for building a strong homeschool
connection and often including activities that children and their families can
enjoy together.
