1. Overview
Oracle Process manufacturers produce materials throughout their plants, sometimes there is a need to
hold the process for a number of reasons like machine breakdown, Material shortage, delay in In-process
quality sample approval, supervisor / plant manager approval and sales order cancel etc..When one of
these events takes place, users can put a batch on hold to stop further processing until the issue is
resolved. Then the hold can be removed and the manufacturing process can continue.

There are two types of Hold based on the issue.

Pause: In this mode, the batch can be paused for a short period of time for functions such as
waiting for an approval from production supervisor / plant manager / QA manager etc... In this
mode, material and resource transactions can be recorded (if the transactions are not in hold
period), downstream operations can be rescheduled.

Stop: In this mode, no transactions like Material, resource, batch and step actions are allowed ,
until the hold is released and Hold Type is changed to No Hold

This document aims to explain the following in detail:

Changes in forms as part of Batch hold

Validations on Batch hold creation and release

Defining a new Hold Reason

Hold applicability on different batch status

List of actions that are allowed and disallowed as part of batch hold

Creating a Batch Hold

Releasing a batch hold

A new field Hold Type is added to deal with the hold functionality

3. Validations on Batch hold creation and release

The following validations are ensured while batch is created.

Batch can be put on only one active hold at any time.

The system date is treated as the default start date of hold. It is a read only field.

The end date is disabled while holding a batch.

You can specify an end date while removing a batch from hold.

The end date should be greater than the start date and cannot be later than the current date.

If there is an active hold, the hold reason is displayed (at Hold Release / Hold History) and the
start date becomes read only.

4. Defining a New Hold Reason

While placing a batch on hold, you must select an appropriate reason for placing the batch on hold from
the list. If you do not find a suitable reason in the list, you can define a new hold reason using the
Lookups

To define a new hold reason

Navigation: Production Supervisor > Others > Lookups
1. Navigate to Lookups window
2. Search and Select type GME_BATCH_ONHOLD_REASON
3. In the Lookup Codes section, click the Add Another Row icon.
4. Enter a valid Code, enter a valid lookup Meaning and a brief Description for your lookup.
7. Optionally, enter a Tag to describe your lookup.
8. Effective Date From defaults to system date
9. Select or clear the Enabled check box to indicate whether applications can use your
Lookup. If you do not select this check box, users cannot insert additional records using
Your lookup, but can query records that already use this Lookup.
10. Save the work

7. Creating a Batch Hold

Oracle Process Manufacturing (OPM) Process Execution batches can have a number of different
statuses, from creation of the batch to the close of the batch. You can place a batch on Hold for a number
of different reasons before the batch is allowed to be further processed. A batch can be placed on hold in
any status except a batch with closed, cancelled or terminated (Completed- Terminated indicator
enabled) status. While placing a batch on hold, you must select appropriate hold mode, reason for placing
the batch on hold and any additional information that may be required

Prerequisites
Create a batch
Perform a search for the batch using the Find Batches window
To Place a batch on Hold
Navigation: Production Supervisor > Batch Details > Tools | Hold
1. Navigate to the Batch Details window.
2. From the Tools menu, select Hold. The Batch Onhold window appears.
3. Select the Hold Type from the list. The available options are Pause and Stop.
4. Select an appropriate Hold Reason from the list.
5. Start Date is defaulted to current system date.
6. Enter any additional information in the Hold Comments field.
7. Click OK to place the batch on hold.
8. Click Cancel to discard your changes and return to the Batch Details window.
Note: Creation of batch hold supports the e-record, provided
oracle.apps.gme.batch.hold and transaction type GME ERES Batch Hold.

Once a batch is placed on hold, the further processing of the batch is paused or completely stopped,
depending on the hold type, till the time hold is released. Once the hold reason is resolved, you can
release the hold and further processing of the batch is allowed.
If you want to change the hold type for a batch from existing hold to another hold, you must first
release the hold and change the status to No Hold and then again place the batch on hold as per the
requirement

Prerequisites
