COLLECTION

DESIGN LERA MOISEEVA IN COLLABORATION WITH LUCA NICHETTO

The successful New York crowdcrafting event of the SOFA4MANHATTAN designed by

Lera Moiseeva in collaboration with Luca Nichetto, led to the first prototype made by
Berto and Design-Apart. Today it becomes a Signature Collection, an almost infinite
variety of modular extensions obtained by combining the unmistakable slim backs
with multiple square and rectangular padded seating, linear or angular bases, fabric
or leather upholstery and contrast stitching.
The project incorporates the concepts of wellbeing, peace and relaxation originating
from the conversations during the making of the first prototype. The idea of shelter
provided by a nest, a comfortable place to work, to enjoy intimate family moments or
simply relaxing with friends were given the highest importance. The design combines
both high backs, which offer warmth and protection and provide a place to contemplate
the world.
The Sofa4Manhattan confirms the commitment of the company towards new ways of
interpreting design, production and distribution.
The new SOFA4MANHATTAN Collection also endorses the companys open ecosystem:
inviting the public to work together because together they share the same desire to live
and enjoy life in an environment that is completely hand tailored and custom made.
In New York, just as in Miami and in Milan.

WORKSHOP
@Design-Apart New York
BertO and Design-Apart Manhattan together organized a design workshop to
identify the components of the ideal sofa for the residents of NY. The event
involved 10 international designers who worked collectively for an entire
weekend at the Design-Apart loft showroom in Manhattan.

PROTOTYPING
@BertO Laboratory Meda Italy
The winning design was selected and delivered to the BertO Fine Upholstery
Tailoring Laboratory. A team of carpenters, upholsterers and turners made the
first prototype of the Sofa4Manhattan in only two weeks. From an idea they
created the final product.

CROWDCRAFTING
@Design-Apart New York
This prototype of the sofa was shipped disassembled in its various component
parts and put together during a day of collective production, known as
crowdcrafting, where designers, participating guests, future clients and the
artisans themselves re-assemble the first collectively designed and produced
