What measures can be taken to help assure the quality of medical information one receives

over the world wide web?

To assure the quality of medical information one receives over the World Wide Web, there are
Web sites that rate online health information. These rating services, however, are not subject to
regulation or quality control either. Recognizing the difficulty of sifting through the health
information and advice on the Internet, in 1997, the Federal Department of Health and Human
Services create Healthfinder, a listing of sites hand-pickedby health professionals. Most of
the sites it recommends are government agencies, non-profit and professional organizations,
universities, libraries, although it does list a few commercial sites. Along with a listing,
Healthfinder provides the source of the information and a summary (Burke & Weill, 2013, page
11).

After reading the Joshi article, make suggestions on how to improve medical informatics
training for medical professionals.
Trainings should be more cost-effective and should be commonly offered as online modules to
address workforce shortages. Online programs have a higher potential for reaching larger
audiences on an international level, as long-distance and web-based classes are not limited
physical or national boundaries. Also, having the modules in different languages for medical
professionals to learn from and more exercises available for practices would be useful (Joshi &
Pern, 2012, paragraph 20).

What are the challenges of online training?
I agree that technical issues is one of the many challenges of online trainings. The only solution
to this problem is knowing exactly what kind of technological support the eLearners will
necessitate for a certain training before enrolling in it, as well as properly equipping themselves
for the trainings successful completion.

Another commonly seen challenge is the lack of computer literacy among adult learners today.
Several of them cannot operate basic programs such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and
therefore are not able to handle their files (Davis, 2016, paragraph 11). Moreover, numerous
adult learners find fixing basic computer problems difficult, as they have no knowledge in this
area. Nevertheless, technological proficiency is a must for following online trainings, as it allows
eLearners to manage their trainings in an organized manner without struggling. Basic courses in
computer literacy improve the adult learners knowledge in the field; having a fundamental
knowledge of computer hardware would help them partake in online trainings without
interruptions.
Lastly, time management is a difficult task for eLearners, as online trainings require a lot of time
and intensive work. Furthermore, whereas it is mostly adults who prefer web-based training
programs for their place and time flexibility, they rarely have the time to take the training due to
their various everyday commitments. A regular schedule planner would be a significant help, as
they could even set reminders for their trainings.
