Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
InTASC Standard: Standard 3
The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and
collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement
in learning, and self motivation (InTASC 2013).

Brief Description of Evidence: As part of my EDUC 121- Child & Adolescent

Development course during the spring semester of 2016, I worked collaboratively with a
partner to create a supportive classroom environment. The assignment included that we
make our classroom with four sections for each activity we outlined. The four areas were
language, physical, cognitive, and social/emotional/moral.
Analysis of What I Learned: Through this process of planning out an appropriate
environment for collaborative learning I learned how important it is to place certain items
in the classroom where it would be best for social interaction and engagement in the
learning process. For my classroom, we separated it into sections based upon the four
areas mentioned previously. This allowed for easy movement through the classroom so
that we could move about, but also provided enough space for the students to feel on
their own allowing for self motivation.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard: My
competence in this standard is proven by my ability to plan the proper positions for each
section of the classroom, and also being able to make four lesson plans for each activity
for my age group. With the way we planned our classroom each student would be able to
be active in their learning process as well as being on their own. With our centers there
was also plenty of room for positive interactions with each other.
