The Problem and Related Studies
Introduction
Accounting Technology course was a promising course
wherein the students are prepared to be responsive to the
global market by providing technical skills and competencies
in the areas of accounting and finance. This course aimed to

The current tracer study will cover the period of S.Y.
2014-2015. This study aimed to: investigate the transition
process from higher education to work; analyze the type of
work they have, satisfaction regarding their job position,
job security and the type of work; find out what factors are
important for professional success of graduates taking into

widely recognized by employers and professional bodies, and
were often used as an alternative route to qualified as a

From the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 2015
reported by Lisa Grace S. Bersales in the PS website dated
June 19, 2015, there were 6.4% or 2.679 million unemployed

17.8% are underemployment. Among the unemployed, the age
group 15 to 24 years compromised 50.4% while the age group

field the graduates work -match/mismatch, graduates first

important: stakeholder perception about the graduates. It
also traces what competencies graduates use most in their
workforce so it can provide information for evaluation of

(Dr. Jinnet Fowles, 2012) The two main objectives of
this study are to: 1) provide an electronic and physical
data base of all researches and studies conducted in Tongan
education in the last 5 years, and; 2) provide data on the
employability and experiences of the graduates of the Tonga
Institute of Education (TIOE) and the Tonga Institute of
Higher Education (TIHE) that have graduated in the last five
years (2007 2011).
The study showed that graduates of both TIOE and TIHE
have very high employability status. Data has also shown
that graduates from both institutions spend minimal time in

trying to find employment. Almost half the graduates from

TIOE

and

two-thirds

of

the

graduates

from

TIHE

find

employment within 3 months and one-fifth from TIOE and onethirds from TIHE found employment in less than 5 months.
Most graduates from both institutions were happy with their
jobs but need improvement in their skills.
A database had also been put together as reference
point for Tongan students, teachers and interested persons
recording studies and researches that are related to Tongan
education. This database can be updated regularly to help
anybody but especially the students at both TIOE and TIHE.
We

characteristics to other variables. These characteristics

included: gender, age (condensed into three categories),
year of graduation, qualification (certificate or diploma),
and

whether

or

not

the

respondent

had

been

in

paid

employment before entering TIHE.A key question posed in the

questionnaire is whether or not the respondent is currently
in paid work. Graduates who received a certificate (rather
than a diploma) were less likely to be currently paid (53%
vs. 86% respectively).
On the "Number of employed and unemployed", (Diestro,

Reasearch Methodology
Research Method
The researchers used a descriptive research design in
this study. (The Association for Educational Communications
and Technology, 2011) The term descriptive research refers
to the type of research question, design and data analysis
that will be applied to a given topic. It tells What is
while inferential statistics try to determine the cause and
effect.

It

also

attempts

at

establishing

some

type

of

comparison or contrast and tries to discover relationship

between non-manipulated variables.
Respondents of the study
The samples were identified using Total Sampling; It is
a type of sampling technique that involves examining the
entire population because the size of the population that
the

researcher

is

interested

was

very

small.

All

the

population will be qualified as a respondent.

pursue further studies because most of them are tied
with their work.
3. However,

there

are

BSAT

who

are

not

yet

employed when the survey was administered. The reason

why they are still not employed is the fact that they
are reviewing for Examination for CPA licensure.
4. Based on the findings of the employed respondents they
are

mostly

working

in

the

Philippines

and

the

respondents who work abroad are basically who have the

highest monthly salary.

from less than a month. All in all, it takes almost a

month for all Rank/Clerical respondents to find a job.
