Conclusions
1. There is a linearly proportional relationship between the Torque applied to the system and
the resulting angular precession experienced as shown in Graph 1.
2. The angular precession experienced in the system is inversely proportional to the applied
angular velocity as shown in Graph 2.
3. The expressions to calculate theoretical values of angular precession (=[1/I]*T and [1/
]=[I/T]*) are shown to be true as both graphs hold largely between the error bars for all
values of T and respectively. Also as shown in Table 1 and Table 2 the percentage
difference between the theoretically expected values and the measured values is mostly 12% difference and is maximum as the Torque or increases so at worst there is a 5-6%
difference between results.
There are many explanations for the differences discovered between theoretical and measured
results. These can be mainly assigned to a combination of random and systematic errors affecting
both the experiment apparatus and the user. These will be described in greater detail in the next
section.

Error Analysis

There is a random error associated with human reaction time. This can range from 0.25-1
second so we have assigned it to be an absolute value of 0.5 seconds as we are just average
humans not professional timers and this is absolute as this error does not depend on the
value recorded.
Another random error is associated with balancing the torque as this is subjective and
depends on the user setting the balancing angular velocity.
There is a systematic error associated with the masses applied. These masses are old and are
chipped and oily so they are not accurate with the given masses. This error has been
assigned 0.01 kg.

Equations Used for Errors:

Mass Error Bound = 0.01 kg
Torque Error Bound = 0.13*Mass Error Bound
Time Error Bound = 0.5 seconds
Precession Error Bound = (Time Error Bound/Time)*Precession
Error Bound = Precession Error Bound*2
Rotor Speed Error Bound = 100 rpm
Error Bound = Rotor Speed Error/(2 *60)
1/ Error Bound = ( Error Bound/)*1/
