FUEL PUMP AND FILTER ASSEMBLYMAINTENANCE PRACTICES

(CECO SUCTION PUMP, MFP262)
1.

General
Replace the complete pump assembly if it is found to be the cause of engine malfunction or for TBO
expiration. (See Figure 201.)
NOTE:

A.

The Chandler Evans (CECO) MFP262 Suction Fuel Pump and Filter Assembly is
identified with two individual part numbers, one for the pump section and one for the
filter section (See Figure 204). The assembly is identified by a third part number (assembly part number) that does not appear on either data plate. Refer to the engine log
records or the Illistrated Parts Catalog for the assembly part number.

Removal
Remove the fuel pump and filter assembly from the engine as follows:
(1)

B.

Remove the following from the pump:

(a)

Fuel supply line from the pump inlet.

(b)

Vent vapor line (if used) at pump discharge tee fitting.

(c)

Fuel controltopump bypass (Po) tube.

(d)

Pumptofuel control inlet fuel (P1) tube.

(e)

Pump seal drain line.

(f)

Airframe furnished filter P indicator equipment (if installed).

(2)

Remove the three selflocking nuts and washers which secure the fuel pump to the power
and accessory gearbox housing. Remove pump from mounting studs.

(3)

Remove the mounting flange gasket. Discard packing.

(4)

Remove the fittings from the pump and keep them for installation in the replacement pump.
Discard packings.

Installation
WARNING: FAILURE TO PROPERLY INSTALL, ALIGN AND TIGHTEN FUEL, OIL, AND AIR
FITTINGS AND TUBES COULD RESULT IN AN ENGINE FAILURE.
Install the replacement fuel pump and filter assembly on the engine as follows:
CAUTION:

(1)

DO NOT ENLARGE THE #80 HOLE SIZE OF THE VAPOR VENT FITTING
RESTRICTOR.

If the airframe has a vapor return line, inspect and clean the vapor vent fitting restrictor. If
a vapor return line is not used but the cap was removed from the fitting, install the cap,
tighten to 80120 lb in. (9.013.6 N.m) and secure with lockwire.

(2.93.6 N.m) above running torque).

(3)

Lubricate and install new packings on the fuel pump fittings. Install the fittings on the
pump. Tighten the inlet reducer, seal drain fitting and airframe filter differential pressure
indicator fittings as specified in the airframe maintenance manual. DO NOT TIGHTEN the
jam nuts on the bypass elbow and discharge tee at this time.

(4)

Install a new fuel pump drive packing seal.

(5)

Install gasket on mounting pad.

(6)

Coat pump drive splines and new packing with engine oil. Coat the fuel fitting with

NOTE:

C.

Be sure the procedures and precautions of Rigid Tube Inspection and Installation, PARA 8., 720000, EngineServicing, are observed when installing fuel
system tubes.

After the fuel pump has been replaced, if a false start or a start that is not completed in a total time of one minute is encountered, return the gas producer lever
to FUEL OFF and motor the engine without ignition for 10 seconds.

(13)

Check run the engine after fuel pump replacement. (Refer to Check Run, PARA 1.,
720000, EngineAdjustment/Test.)

(14)

Make appropriate entry relative to pump replacement in the Engine Log.

Replacing Filter Element in CECO High Pressure Filter Assembly. (See Figure 202.)
Replace the filter element as indicated in Tables 601, 602, 603, and 604, 720000, Engine Inspection/Check, whenever the filter impending bypass indicator has extended, the cockpit filter
P indicator actuates or the specified replacement time interval has been reached.
CAUTION:

THIS IS A THROWAWAY FILTER ELEMENT AND IS NOT TO BE CLEANED

AND REUSED.

(1)

Place a container under the filter assembly to catch fuel drainage.

(2)

Remove hardware attached to the filter cover (B.F. P indicator or drain valve if installed).

(3)

Carefully remove the spring and filter from the pump housing.

(4)

Inspect the filter for damage and erosion. Replace the filter if damaged.

(5)

Clean the filter with fuel or calibration fluid.

(6)

Install the filter and spring.

(7)

Lubricate a new packing with petrolatum and install it on the cap.

(8)

Install the cap in the filter housing and secure with two washers and cap screws. Tighten
screws to 26--36 lb in. (2.9--4.1 N.m) above running torque. The minimum running torque
is 2 lb in. (0.2 N.m).

(9)

Purge air from the fuel system. (Refer to Purging the Fuel System, PARA 2.D.,

Vacuum Check of Fuel System Lines and Components (M250--C20R/2(SP) engine only)
NOTE:

The vacuum check is a troubleshooting procedure to detect engine or airframe fuel

system leaks, and not mandatory inspection unless otherwise specified by the airframe
manufacturer.

The entire fuel system on the M250--C20R/2(SP) engine, from the inlet to the pump to the fuel
nozzle, is pressurized above atmospheric pressure at all times during normal operation of the
engine. Faulty connections and seals will not draw air into the system, but will exhibit an external
fuel leak. Therefore, except when a boost pump is used, the supply line from the fuel tank to the
engine pump inlet will be the only area of operation below atmospheric pressure and subject to
drawing air into the fuel system if faulty connections or seals exist in this path. For these reasons, a simplified vacuum check procedure is employed with this system.
NOTE:

Figure 206 provides a flow diagram of the check procedure. Circled numbers on the
flow diagram refer to procedural steps in this procedure.

(1)

Disconnect vapor vent line from tee at fuel pump outlet and cap the vapor vent port.

(2)

Remove the plug from the fuel inlet pressure tap (See Figure 201) and connect a vacuum
pump. Ensure that the vacuum set--up includes a negative pressure gage (in. Hg) and a
shutoff valve between the gage and pump. Apply 8 in. Hg vacuum and close the shutoff
valve. Record gage reading after two minutes. If vacuum loss exceeds 1/2 in. Hg after the
two minutes, proceed to step (3). If vacuum loss is 1/2 in. Hg or less, no further checks
are required.

(3)

Inspect and repair fuel inlet connection seal if required.

PARA 1.E (cont)
(4)

Perform an engine ground run and check engine fuel system components for fuel leaks.

(5)

Make any necessary repairs and repeat step (2). If vacuum loss is 1/2 in. Hg or less, no
further checks are required. If vacuum loss exceeds 1/2 in. Hg after two minutes, proceed
with step (6).

(6)

Disconnect the line from the pump inlet and cap the inlet port to keep out debris.

(7)

Connect the vacuum pump to the inlet line. Apply 8 in. Hg vacuum to the inlet line and
close the shutoff valve. If vacuum loss is 1/2 in. Hg or less after two minutes, no further
checks are required. If vacuum loss exceeds 1/2 in. Hg after the two minute period, repair
the aircraft fuel system (refer to the aircraft service manual) and repeat step (2).

(8)

Purge air from the fuel system. (Refer to para 2.D., 730000 for details.)
