Manufacturing
Manufacturing is a value addition process by which raw
materials having low utility and value can be converted into
high utility and valued product.
Important features imparted:
Desired form
Appropriate dimensions
Desired surface finish
Value added

Production Engineering

Production Engineering aims at achieving this

value addition Process in an effective and
efficient manner. It has got two components:

Manufacturing Processes
Production Management

A production system consists of man,

machines, materials, material handling
equipments and method of manufacturing.

Manufacturing Processes

Manufacturing Process refers to the science and

technology of manufacturing products effectively,
efficiently and economically through:

Proper selection of input materials

Continuous improvement of existing materials & processes
Development of new materials and processes

All Manufacturing Processes have to be

Technologically acceptable
Technically feasible
Economically viable
Ecofriendly

Production Management

Production Management refers to planning,

coordination and control of the entire manufacturing
process in most profitable way by best utilization of
the available resources.

The optimal process is chosen by considering:

Reduction of manufacturing time

Increase of productivity
Reduction of manufacturing cost
Increase in profit
