Introduction
DAILY AND WEEKLY MAINTENANCE

INTRODUCTION
You have been given the responsibility for selected equipment and a selected area
on board your unit. This binder describes which area and equipment you are
responsible for, and provides guidelines to provide daily- and weekly maintenance
and inspections related to the dedicated equipment.
The main purpose for described maintenance and inspections are to avoid any
accidents or breakdowns on the equipment which you are responsible for. If we are
to succeed in serving these purposes, is it important that you acquaint yourself with,
and understand the contents of this binder and also the equipment which you are
responsible for. Contact your discipline leader if anything is unclear.
You are also expected to:
1. Familiarize yourself with how the equipment is to be operated and any limitations
that apply (read the suppliers user guide and any equipment operating rules).
2. Ensure that your area and equipment is kept clean.
3. Perform the maintenance and inspections according to the instructions in this
binder.
4. Make sure that all faults, shortcomings or other unsatisfactory conditions that you
observe related to your equipment are repaired and/ or reported to your discipline
leader immediately.
RESPONSIBILITY
Executing person is responsible for the execution and signing of this list.
Discipline leader is responsible for following up that the first line maintenance has
been carried out and signed.
If you have any proposals for changes to the check lists or descriptions you must
give your proposals in writing to your discipline leader.
USING THE BINDER:
1. A follow up of the maintenance carried out is done by signing the daily/weekly
checklists every day in the binder. If a job is not done the reason shall be noted
on the checklist. You must under no circumstances sign off on jobs that have not
been carried out.
2. All signing lists are given to your discipline leader weekly who then countersigns
the submitted lists.
3. Discipline leader are given signing lists to Ass. Chief engineer for signing off in
IFS (VAM) after completion.
4. All submitted signing lists are kept on board for three months after being signed
off.

General Rules & Tips
APPLY BOTH TO DAILY AND WEEKLY CHECKS.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. To prevent that the equipment cant be operated, perform one or more of following
actions:
Close hydraulic supply valve for the equipment
Set the equipment out of auto operation and into manual operation
Communication with the operator of the equipment
BEFORE THE VISUAL INSPECTION
1. All equipment to be inspected shall be cleaned.
THE MAIN RULES ARE:
1. Clean
2. Run functions
3. Observe, listen and smell
4. Touch and feel, for instance the temperature
5. Perform visual check
THE EQUIPMENT IS INSPECTED FOR:
1. Loose bolts with locking device
2. Damage, cracks and slack
3. That the safety wire is intact
4. That there are no loose objects that can fall down
5. Damage to or leaks in hydraulic equipment
6. Hydraulic equipment for any damage, sharp bends and rubbing
7. If the outer rubber is worn into the steel cord, the hose shall be replaced
Run the equipment and see if there is anything abnormal and listen to any irregular sounds
Check that there is no damage to electrical/instrument equipment with cables, cable, racks,
cable entries and connection boxes
Nothing must be suspended from cables or cable racks.
LUBRICATION:
1. You need a grease pump loaded with correct type of grease
2. You need a grease chart for the equipment showing the nipples to be greased
3. You have to know how many pumps of grease to apply to the nipples
4. Or pump until you see the grease come out
5. If a nipple does not take any grease, it is very important to correct this or report it
immediately
6. You must never grease electrical motors (only done by electrician)
The equipment is greased in accordance with the enclosed grease chart
NOTE! See and observe that grease gets to the intended location and does not leak out onto
any pipe or hose connections.
NOTE! Relieve the equipment when greasing, run and move it so that the grease is distributed.
Check the filter indicator on the hydraulic oil filter with warm circulating oil. If the tap has come
out, press it in, run the equipment and recheck the indicator. If it comes out repeatedly, this
indicates a dirty filter which then must be changed.

This is to make sure the wire rope has not slipped on the anchor

- Inspect during each wire line Slip-and-Cut program
Check that Wire Line Drum is moving freely on the bearings;
- Inspect during each wire line Slip-and-Cut program
Measure after each wire line Slip-and-Cut program;
- Load cell gap = 19 mm with empty hook.
Visually inspect for any damages, wear and tear
- inspect after heavy loading
1. Grease Points, grease according to the lubrication chart

- Visually inspect the rubber cover/labyrinth gland
- Visually inspect bearing hub for cracks, wear and any sign of
overloading.
- Visually inspect fixing bolts including locking device.
- Clean for mud/dirt if necessary.
Visually inspect for wear, corrosion and broken springs
Check clearance and adjust If necessary. If the thrust nut clearance
has to be adjusted, also check trust nut locking bolts according to
maintenance manual. If the clearance is OK, check distance from thrust
nut OD to locking bolt head and that the securing screws are in place
and engaged with locking bolts.
- Visually Inspect all return springs and safety wires incl. safety wires
on guide funnel, jaws and return springs for wear and damage.
- Check shackles including safety split pin for wear and damages.
Visually Inspect the saver sub OD for wear and damage. Measure
diameter and replace if OD is reduced by 7mm.
Visually inspect dies for wear and damage. Clean or replace dies if
necessary. Check locking screws for wear and damage.
Visually inspect the suspension chains, turnbuckles, G-links, shackles
and shackle suspension lugs for cracks, wear and damage. Note:
Leveling of the torque wrench is essential for Torque Wrench
performance
- Visually inspect for cracks, wear and damage.
- Visually inspect fixing bolts incl. bolt locking device and safety
wires.
- Visually inspect guide funnel rubber for wear. Change if necessary.
- Visually inspect that the IBOP mechanism is correctly adjusted. Use
a flash- light to check that the valve is completely open and closed.
- Check the plastic pads at the cylinder yokes. Replace if height
is 25 mm or less. New pads are 29 mm.
Visually inspect cable/hose loops connected to DDM and Dolly for any
rubbing or damages
- Drain of water from Air Supply Filter at the Valve unit.
- Check Oil level in Air Lubricator. Top-up to max if necessary. Do
not overfill

6. Thrust Nut & Link Hanger Adjustment Procedure

Adjustment of Clearance between Thrust Nut and Link Hanger
1. Before adjustment, visually check the spring packages on the link anger for cracks or
wear.
2. Release the securing screws and thrust nut locking bolts.
3. Adjust thrust nut up or down as required to obtain the required air gap, ref table below.
The air gap is measured between the thrust nut and the link hanger body.
4. When correct air gap is obtained, insert the thrust nut locking bolts. Make sure that the
bolts are matching with the grooves in the main shaft. Torque up the bolts stepwise and
with gradually increased torque to ensure that the thrust nut is correctly centred on the
threads. Final tightening torque is given in table below. After final torque up, check
distance from bolt head to outer surface of thrust nut to make sure the locking bolts are
matching the grooves in the main shaft. Ref. bolt head position in table below.
NOTE:
When mounting the locking bolts it is strictly important that the bolts are engaged into the
matching groove in the main shaft. Serious damage may occur if the thrust nut is allowed to
rotate respectively to the main shaft.
When tightening up the bolts, make sure that required torque is applied step-wise for the four
bolts around the main shaft.
If the locking bolts are tightened up without matching the intended grooves, the clearance
between the bolt head and thrust nut outside diameter will be reduced approx. 6 mm.
5. Secure the thrust nut locking bolts with the securing screws. The securing screws shall
be locked with Loctite no. 243.
6. Frequently check the gap from bolt head of the locking bolts to thrust nut outer surface
(Bolt head position), in order to verify that the locking bolt are in place and secured

Grease according to the lubrication chart. The frequency of
lubrication is intended as a guide. Certain operating conditions may
require some points get more frequent lubrication.
Visually inspect the filter indicator (7 off) while the equipment is
operating
Check the following items:
- Level on hydraulic oil reservoir shall be approx 2 - 3 inches
bellow top. Oil type: Shell Tellus T 68
- Level on Pump Gear
- Level on oil reservoir for Slew Gear shall be between to full
- Level glass on Winch Gears (3 off).
- Gear Oil Type: Shell SPIRAX LS 80W-90
- Look for any wire breakage, damages and corrosion of wire rope
- Check that the wire rope is spooled correctly on the drums(3
drums)
- Look for any damages, wear and tear on shackles
Check and Verify the following items:
- Out of service signs
- Remove any obstructions to clear operator vision (includes
cleaning windows if necessary)
- All instruments function properly
- All engine instruments operate properly
- Crane functions for proper operation.
- Control levers operate freely and return to neutral when released
- All hoists operate smoothly
- Look for hydraulic leaks / spills
- Check that the dead end for Boom Hoist Winch has not slipped
on the wedge socket
- Suction pipes are completely open
- Oil leaks
Inspect and Verify the following items:
- Hydraulic leaks around swing motor and boom hoist limit
assembly
- Condition of front shoe bearings and retainers
Look for Hydraulic leakages
- Visually inspect for attachment flanges that do not touch
- Look for missing bolts or nuts
- Look for loose gear (slings, hooks and shackles)
- Visually inspect main rope at dead end for broken strands
Inspect and Verify the following items:
- Gantry sheaves for obvious damages
- Electrical swivel for freedom of movement and damage

Description
Grease according to the lubrication chart. The frequency of
lubrication is intended as a guide. Certain operating conditions may
require some points get more frequent lubrication.
- Grease Type: Shell Alvania EP 2 & Shell Malleus GL 95
Visually inspect the following items:
- Level glass on slew gears (5 off). Oil Type: Shell Omala 150
- Level glass on oil reservoir. Oil type: Shell Tellus T 68
- Look for any wire breakage, damages and corrosion of wire rope
- Check that the wire rope is spooled correctly on the drum
- Look for any damages, wear and tear on shackles
Look for leakage on fittings, valves, cylinders and hoses
- Remove any obstructions to clear operator vision (includes
cleaning windows if necessary)
Visually inspect for any damages, wear and cracks
Visually inspect the sheave (3 off) for any wear, damages and
cracks.
Visually inspect the following item:
- Yoke inclusive gripper head for any wear, damages and loose
axels/pins.
- Rubber on Clamping Cylinder for damages, wear and tear
all grease points. The frequency of lubrication is intended only as a guide.
