14. Remove the forward tapered roller bearing by tipping the

gearcase and allowing it to fall into your hand. If you left a
shift detent ball in the gearcase, it will fallout also.
15. Remove the shift rod bushing as follows:

Position OMC Special Tool PIN 327693 (Shift Rod

Bushing Remover) @ under the shift rod bushing.

Thread the adaptor of the universal slide hammer in

the slide hammer. Place the adaptor through the shift
rod busing and thread into the remover tool.

Remove the handle from the remover tool. Then remove

the bushing from the gearcase.

Once the bushing has been removed from the gearcase,

examine the bushing for damage. If damaged, replace the
bushing on reassembly . Remove and discard the O-ring
from the bushing.

16. Attach OMC Special Tool PIN 391010 (Narrow Two Jaw
Puller) to the slide hammer and remove the two upper driveshaft
seals. These seals may be pressed in quite tightly so make sure
that the puller is installed correctly before attempting to remove
the seals.
17. Using OMC Special Tool PIN 319880 (Bearing Remover),
drive the upper driveshaft bearing from the bearing sleeve with a
mallet. Discard the bearing.
18. Attach the narrow two jaw puller to the slide hammer and
remove the bearing sleeve from the gearcase.
19. Attach OMC Special Tool PIN 390012 (Wide Two Jaw
Puller) to the slide hammer and remove the forward bearing cup
from the gearcase. Two recesses are provided in the gearcase
casting, behind the cup. Make sure that the jaws of the tool
engages these recesses.

20. I nspect the water intake screen for obstructions and see if
it is clogged.

Use the bolts, nuts, and washers supplied with steering attachment kits
.... they're a Special Locking Type That Won't Loosen, Rust, or Weaken.

When Transom Mounted steering systems (see picture) are used, check to uncover possible Trouble!

Be aware that Raising or Lowering motor

on transom can change a set up which was
O.K. earlier. If moved up or down even
1/2 inch, run test again to make sure
steering parts are free and clear.

Check for Damaged parts ..... Blows to the Motor like this

Replace damaged parts. If weakened, pdrts could fail later ....

on the water .... when least expected.
