LIGHTING OF THE SYMBOLS OF THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE

HOLY SPIRIT

I. INTRODUCTION
We live in a world torn by conflicting interests, jealousy,
aggressiveness and so many forms of enslavement. All this is the
consequences of sin, from the first to the latest sin that has darkened the
horizon of mankind. Left to ourselves, we would have been unable to
overcome such destructive forces. That is why God promised and sent the
Holy Spirit, as the divine healing power that can undo the tragedies of
division, mistrust and hatred brought about by human sinfulness.
Today as one Augustinian community we ask the Holy Spirit to guide us
on our journey of faith, hope and love as we go toward the fullness of life
God has prepared for us. May our journey be a fruitful and productive as we
serve one another in Christ and may the guidance of the Holy Spirit bind us
together in oneness of mind and heart on the way to God.
Let us ask the Holy spirit to bless us throughout this year.
II. OPENING SONG: Come Holy Spirit
PROCESSION AND LIGHTING OF THE SYMBOLS OF THE SEVEN GIFTS OF
THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Let us now have the presentation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
1. SPIRIT OF WISDOM: It is the predisposition to judge and order all
things according to Gods will. Its contrary is
foolishness.
Let us pray: O Spirit of Wisdom, help us to relish and love only the
things
of heaven!
2. SPIRIT OF UNDERSTANDING: It is the predisposition to grasp the
truths of faith easily and deeply. Its contrary is
unawareness.
Let us pray: O, Spirit of Understanding, give us better and clearer
understanding of divine truth!
3. SPIRIT OF COUNSEL: It is the predisposition to discern correctly
and
immediately the will of God in the different
circumstances of
life. Its contrary is stubborness.
Let us pray: O, Spirit of Counsel, guide us to glorify God and to save
ourselves!

4. SPIRIT OF FORTITUDE: It is the predisposition to persevere in

fulfilling
the will of God in moments of trial. Its contrary is weakness
Let us pray: O, Spirit of Fortitude, help us to overcome difficulties
relative
to our duties as Christians!
5. SPIRIT OF PIETY: It is the predisposition to worship God with all
our heart, and consequently to love our neighbor as
ourselves. True worship to
God is manifested in the sincere love for his children. Its contrary is
wickedness.
Let us pray: O, Spirit of Piety, make us joyfully dedicate ourselves to
God
in service!
6. SPIRIT OF KNOWLEDGE: It is the predisposition to discover the
truths of spiritual and material world, and to relate them to the Creator.
Its contrary is ignorance.
Let us pray: O, spirit of Knowledge, help us to ascend to God all
visible
things and beings!
7. SPIRIT OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD: It is the predisposition
to respect the majesty of God and to be scared of sin. We should avoid
sins, not for fear of punishment, but for fear of offending Gods love.
Fear is not terror, but adoring reverence for Gods Fatherly love. Its
contrary is disrespect.
Let us pray: O, Spirit of the Fear of the Lord, inspire us with sovereign
respect to God!
