Design is everything; there is no one thing that can

encapsulate the whole of design. In my opinion, design is
the concept of how things look to each individual person.
The design of our brains is what draws us to what we
believe to be well designed or not. For each person, design
is different, some may use it more than others, but in the
long run, it is an important aspect in life for everyone.

From what I believe, you can take design on in many

different ways. Compared to other careers, there is a much
less strict regime that you have to follow. Of course you still
have to follow your clients proposals; but its much less
routine compared to a doctor or lawyer. Unlike other
careers, you cant just be good at one thing. But in other
ways, design is much like other careers in the sense that
you have to try hard and practice makes perfect.
There is no manual that tells us what looks good or not,
because that will vary from person to person and there is no
one thing that will be universally accepted as being well
designed.

The design of our buildings contains a large part of a places

history and culture. In this way design can leave a lasting
imprint on society, either representing something special or
not so special. Changing a story into something that is
tangible and others can observe.
Design allows us to express our ideas, values and
aspirations in our own individual way. Regardless to what
we believe, we see and experience a result of design nearly
every second of everyday, it drives the very existence of
our society.
By the Oxford definition design is a plan or drawing
produced to show the look and function or workings of a
object before it is made. But in reality, design is so much

What ideas/skills do they combine?

Design is a career that enables people to incorporate
problem solving, creativity, multitasking and perseverance
into one.
They have to use their main attribute and tailor it to suit the
needs of their customers. Their skill of attention to detail
and inner creativity is usefull, while also having to be logic
and forward thinking in order to overcome challenges they

Design is important because it shapes the society we

know today. Everything we know is designed and we
encounter design moment in our lives. Design
incorporates a lot of our society and makes everything fit
together in harmony. Let it be the environment we work
in, Internet sights we go on, objects we look at, or even
just anywhere we go. How everything works and looks has
caused society to be swept in the fact and believe that
design is an easy process. However, we are assured that
A lot of trial and error goes into making things look
effortless.
What are some characteristics of good design?

Good design is based off a lot of things and is key in

decision making in all processes. Looking at design at a
large scale, good design creates aesthetictically looking
places and a vision. When you look closely, design allows
things to work, creating a mood.
Why is design important to a company?
Many companies can use design in multiple ways and can
sometimes even be the determinent of success. Some
companies have saved themselves from failure by
designing a product that trumphs over their rivals. Putting
an emphasis on design brings creativity into an
Good design allows people to bring out the full potential
of individuals, products and companies. It allows
peoples lives to be easier, more orderly and functional
in general.
Good design attracts the attention of customers and
marketing products that will provide companys good
sales eventually a profit.
In term of buildings, design also allows to give a city
their true feeling. Well-designed buildings provide the
backdrop to the most iconic cities in the world.
Questions that people ask when design things include:
-

Who is the target audience?

How can I make this stand out among other

products?

Is the product really wanted?

Will it cost too much to manufacture?

How do I go about designing this?

For both my design comparisons, I decided use resumes as

my examples. Resumes are used in any period of your life
and are essential for people to find a job.
In case of this resume its quite simple, yet it brings also
says a lot, depicting that the person is quite mature. The
white section with the contact details gives it a very bold
statement, standing out from all the other details. The
greeting of Hallo and Danke give the employer a friendly
feeling and gives the sense that he is greeting the
employer. The person has also incorporated small graphics
to represent what each section represents. Overall, the
design is a balanced design that is un-crowded with the
layout being horizontal compared to the traditional vertical

This resume was rated as one of the worst resumes ever

and I can see why. Firstly the fact that there are just too
many fonts and colours throughout the document is just
very off putting. The layout of it is generally alright;
however, you do get the sense that the page is just a little
bit too crowded. There are no margins on either side of the
document creating the sense that everything is just too
tightly packed. Some of the information on the page is also
irrelevant to finding a job such as marital status and
religion.
Overall the document just gives the impression that a
grade school kid created it, playing around with fancy fonts
