Basque Separatist Conflict (Spain)
The group of people related by culture, race, religion, etc involved in the
Basque Separatist Conflict are the Spanish, the French, the and the Basque's.The causes of the
The Basque Separatist Conflict began most likely in 1937, during the Spanish war between
groups that lived in Spain, General Francisco
Franco called on his friends Nazi Germany and Italy to launch an attack
on the Basque town of Guernica. Franco
ordered to punish the Basques for their support of the Republican cause. Two
years later, Franco declared victory and became mean ruler of Spain. The
punishment of the Basque people continued making the Basque feel like outlaws.
During his rein, Basque political groups and expressions of Basque culture were
rigorously banned, including speaking the Basque language. One could even be
beaten by police and even locked in prison for saying hi in public.
In the 1950s, a group of Basque students started an underground movement called the
Euskadi Ta Askatasuna ("Basque Homeland and Freedom") or ETA in
Basque. Within a few years they began arming themselves to go against Franco's rule. This was
then when armed fighting started to happen.
Northern Ireland Conflict
The Troubles was mainly a conflict between Catholic communities and Northern
Irelands Protestants. Both saw the time know as the troubles in a particular way. For example a
Protestant would view the conflict as an attempt to ensure that Northern Ireland remains a part of
the United Kingdom. On the other hand, a Catholic may see the Troubles as a battle to unify the
Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland or as a progress to bring equality to Catholics. The
Cause of the conflict most likely began when In 1969 Catholic civil rights marches and counterprotests by Protestant loyalists (as in "loyal" to the British Crown) which then went to utter chaos
and trouble.
British troops were sent in but soon came into conflict with the Provisional IRA (Irish
Republican Army) The IRA split of from the British army since they believed that they shouldnt
be considered to be a part of the British army.
As things got worse, the Northern Ireland's parliament was suspended and also the rule forced
from London.

The Nationalist movement in Quebec
The Qubcois are the ethnic group involved in the Nationalist movement in Quebec.
The unique culture and French-speaking majority (80% of the provincial population) are
threatened with assimilation by either the rest of Canada or, as in Metropolitan France, by
Anglophone culture more generally, and that the finest way to preserve language, identity and
culture is by the creation of an independent political entity in Quebec. Other distinguishing
factors, such as religious differences (given that the majority in Quebec are Catholic), are also
used to defend either separation or ethno-nationalist social policies advocated by the Parti
Qubcois.
Switzerland and Belgium: The great divide
"Belgium has a long history of tension between the French-speaking Walloon minority
whom live in the south and the majority of Flemish speakers who live in the north. Plus Belgium
has been invaded a lot of times. A reason that Switzerland may seem to be immune to ethnic
conflict is because it has really been invaded so Switzerland on the other hand has not been
invaded for many centuries. Therefore there is no bad feeling in Switzerland toward any groups
of hostile ethnic warriors. Plus when it comes to external problems and wars Switzerland
remains very neutral not taking any sides.
Little Tokyo
Little Tokyo began as earlier as 1886 when a man by the name of Charles Kame opened a
Japanese restaurant. A festival started beginning to be celebrated every year named first Nisei
Week as of 1934. Its goal was to maintain commercial and links between Little Tokyo and the
Increasing thou dispersed Japanese American community. Little Tokyo has gone through
discrimination, huge events such as the Great Depression, and the forced removal of people with
Japanese ancestry during World War II. This is beneficial in the since that it brings in tourists
whom will like to know a little about the culture that is presented. Plus it can help with the
nostalgia of the people who havent been to there native county. In ways this can cause problems
is that the people living there wont probably not meet the locals, wont learn the language or
adopt the culture.
