5 TIPS ON THE HEADER: PERSONAL INFORMATION FOR

YOUR RESUME - CAREEREALISM
Learning:
The first thing employers see when they look at your resume is the header where you indicate
your name and contact details. How you present your name, location, and contact details
leave an impression and can alone cause to dismiss the resume. Resume headings help tie the
document together, lead the reader through the natural order of your resume, and create focal
points for the eye. They don't have to be terribly creative, but they should be succinct,
specific, and descriptive enough to recognize.
Followings tips to have fair chance:
1. Present your name in a manner that suits the employers work culture: Some people
go by the name presented on their birth certificate while others may have a variation of it.
When writing your resume consider the employers style and culture. For instance, when
applying corporate job with well established organization present name with formally as
Aniruddha V. Dixit or Aniruddha Vishwas Dixit. On the other hand when applying for
company where everyone wears jeans to work and giving the CEO a high-five is an
everyday thing, going less formal on the resume may be more fitting like Aniruddha
Dixit. Think about what best suits the employer and present your information in that
manner.
2. Present a professional email address: Job applicants should avoid presenting an email
address that may include numbers that can be interpreted as their date of birth, not
necessary for the employer to know your age even if youre not concerned about age
discrimination. Users with an AOL email address are typically known to be of an older
generation. Also consider getting a new email address specifically to use for your resume
if the one you currently use is less than professional.
3. Tailor information so youre local: Todays resumes are distributed online so its not
always favorable to send it out with your home address for the world to see. Okay to only
include the City and State at the header. When you do include your location, consider
where the job you are applying for will be located. Some employers dismiss resumes
simply for the fact that the job candidate is not local to their office or they may not want
to deal with job candidates who require relocation.
4. Keep it to 1-3 contact methods: Even if you can be reached several different ways, its
not necessary to present five different telephone numbers. Simply include one email
address and one phone number (at most two). You want to include contact details youll
be accessible at or where you can return messages or calls promptly.
5. Include your LinkedIn Profile and/or website if its relevant: If your LinkedIn profile
is complete and the information is tailored to match the same message you offer on your
resume, consider adding your personalized LinkedIn URL to the header. If you have a
name thats very common, it may help to include it to your resume so theres no mix-up
in the employer reviewing a LinkedIn profile thats not yours.

7 TIPS TO BEST UTILIZE LINKEDIN- CAREEREALISM

Learning:
How much LinkedIn is transforming networking and job searching!! Another finding of the
Career Brainstorming Day was that, as LinkedIn and the job market evolve, many people
need help in waging a strong campaign for that perfect job.
1. You snooze, you lose: More and more, companies are going directly to LinkedIn to find
potential employees, thus cutting out recruiters. If you dont have a profile, or your
profile isyawn!boring, youre missing out.
2. Save for a rainy day: A smarter strategy is to make sure youre making great contacts
and solidifying relationships within your industry, which takes time, before you start a
new job search. Many professionals dont give a second thought to LinkedIn until they
need a job.
3. Contacts count: Potential employers are assuming youll leverage some of those
contacts into new clients for their company. Professionals in the careers industry
recommend at least 100 people: roughly 25 family members, 25 friends, 25 former
coworkers/contacts (people who may have knowledge of your prior performance), and 25
current business-related contacts, including colleagues, supervisors, customers, etc.
4. Its all about the brand: A brand should be there and taglines encapsulating your brand
in a memorable, bite-size way are beginning to routinely crop up on all of a candidates
career communications, from LinkedIn profiles to websites to resumes and cover letters.
5. Ditch the boards: Job boards arent nearly as effective as networking your way into jobs
you have interested in. So if time is limited, its better off leveraging LinkedIns
networking capabilities than scouring the Internet for job postings.
6. Act the part: If targeted company projects a certain vibe with their communications,
than increase your chances of success if you adapt the same tone in your documents and
LinkedIn profile.
7. Seeing is believing: If you havent made the effort to incorporate visual pieces into your
LinkedIn profile, you are wasting a terrific opportunity to catch the eye of potential
employers or clients. You can include videos, presentations, written work, certifications,
images, and more.

FINANCIAL PLANNING: LEARN AND EARN BETTER OUTLOOK MONEY

Learning:

Indian investors are learning fast to better manage their monies. Money is a powerful
motivator to learn. Biggest challenge that financial institutions faced with regard to
engaging with investors was the low level of financial literacy among Indian
consumers and most people viewed options like mutual funds with suspicion and
caution. However, its still early to feel the impact of these efforts and the continuous push
by AMCs in spreading literacy will go a long way.
Different folks, different strokes: Every Asset Management Company has got into
conducting investor outreach programs by way of investor meets, seminars, publishing
booklets and special campaigns to differentiate their efforts. To go beyond the traditional
approach, Asset Management Companies have used social media effectively to drive the
purpose of investing. This was in line with the regulatory mandate, which clearly stated that
advertisements alone could not be construed as spends towards financial literacy.
The AMCs agree that the entire process has been a learning experience, which has helped in
working out new ways to reach target customers.
Says Kaiyomurz Daver, vice-president, head-marketing, brand and corporate
communications, Kotak Mahindra; At the ground level, talking in a language that people
understand was the most apt approach to creating awareness and overall financial literacy.

HOW DO EMPLOYERS FIND THEIR IDEAL CANDIDATECAREEREALISM

Learning:
There are five key steps that employers take in evaluating a candidate:
1. Check The Resume For Job History And Skills: Recruiters eliminate people who are
clearly job hoppers, with one position after another that lasted less than a year; they also
eliminate applicants who lack the vital skills they need.
2. Check The Resume For Intangibles: It may be important, for example, that the
candidate likes to work alone or travel out of the country or make presentations.
3. Look At Social Media: A Facebook or Twitter page may reveal that a candidate has a
problem the company does not want to deal with, such as excess drinking or anger toward
co-workers. Or a company where volunteerism is important, for example, may look for
evidence of a candidates volunteer activity.
4. Pay Attention To The Job Candidates Attitude During The Interview: If a candidate
arrives late, texts during the interview, treats the receptionist rudely or gives inappropriate
or flustered responses to questions, that candidate is considered a bad choice.
5. Be Prepared To Train The Right Person: For some companies, a demonstrated
willingness to learn is more important than current skills.

HOW THE CHINESE DEVALUATION OF THE YUAN AFFECTS

INDIA
Learning:
A stunning move the Chinese authorities decided to devalue the Yuan, the objective was
to revive economic growth in the country. In most countries like India the currency is traded
freely in the interbank foreign exchange market. In China the currency has been linked to the
US dollar. It then allows the currency to trade in a fixed band.
The central bank fixed the rate lower by 1.9 per cent and hence the band also got lower. In
simple terms what it did was allowed the currency to drop by 1.9 per cent against the dollar.
If an Indian is exporting a shirt at $1 and so is a Chinese exporter, India and China are
competing in the international markets. Assume that the Chinese gets 75 (just for comparison
sake) for the Yuan against the dollar and so does the Indian exporter. Now, if the Chinese
drops his currency by almost 2 per cent, he get 76.5 to the dollar. This means he can sell the
shirt for less than a dollar and cheaper than the Indian exporter.
A lot of steel is imported by India from China. When there is a yuan devaluation the Chinese
could sell steel cheaper and people would end up buying Chinese steel in place of steel
manufactured in India. This would affect the domestic industry in India.
The good thing that has happened as we write is that the Indian rupee has also depreciated
against the dollar, though not as much as 2 per cent. But, India cannot afford to let its
currency depreciate dramatically as it could increase the cost of oil imports, make petrol and
diesel costly and ultimately fuelling inflation in the country.

VII. HOW TO BE MORE ORGANIZED AT WORK- CAREEREALISM

Learning:
Organization is a pain, but the simple truth of the matter is organized people get more done.
Why? Generally speaking, they have better time management, live with less mess and get in
less trouble. To decrease the mistakes you make and stop getting in your own way the only
real option is to become organized. Getting organized is a quick route to results. Get rid of the
things holding you back and build up on the things pushing yourself forward.
1. Prioritize: Always keep your mind on whats more important of any two choices. Goals
and values will see you through to the end; dont lose focus for two minutes of mild
gratification. If you foresee yourself having trouble with managing your priorities out of
the gate, try downloading an on-the-go app like Priority Matrix.
2. Compartmentalize: Keep the different things in your life separated, whether its keeping
your professional and personal lives separate, divergent groups of people around you or
actual, physical possessions. This can be as esoteric as refusing to discuss certain things
with people they dont concern, or as direct as throwing some of your old possessions
into a container system. Sometimes, breaking down attachments will take all of the
endurance you have; dont wait, take all of your old and seek a storage solution, located
in one place to visit if you must. Everything you no longer need will gather dust and be
rarely thought of.
3. Deal with Things Right Away: Unless you have more important things to be doing (see
the prioritize section), solve problems as soon as they crop up. The big problems arise
when swear youll handle it tomorrow and never do.
4. Get Rid of Chaotic Influences: At the end, organization has to be based within, but
having chaos all around you isnt any kind of help. If you take the time to get rid of the
difficult crazy or otherwise chaotic influences in your life, be they a friend whos always
getting you into trouble or just a bad habit thats causing you to trip over your own feet.
5. Remind Yourself Why: Motivation is a large part of gaining a result. If you know why
youre getting organized, have a goal or a dream that youre organizing yourself for then
itll be a lot easier to handle. Whenever things get hard, remind yourself why youre
doing what youre doing.

VIII. HOW TO MANAGE TIME EFFICIENTLY, EFFECTIVELYECONOMIC TIMES

Learning:
Radhika Aggarwal, cofounder and chief business officer of online retailer ShopClues, reaches
office by 8:30 am every day, and is one of the first. "It gives me an hour or two to catch up on
my own work my coffee time and own work projects," she said. In that time, Aggarwal
avoids checking mails and instead listens to music, because it is her "work focus time."
Several entrepreneurs who have achieved a degree of
success attribute it to efficient time management, utilising
each day to its fullest in their own way.
A key time-management function for senior executives in
any company is delegation, but this is a tricky proposition
in a startup where teams aren't large and many top people
do multiple roles, a way out would be to delegate what you
can.
Lunch hours are good for brainstorming or competitive
analysis with the senior leadership, a ritual followed at
Shop Clues since inception.
If we have a brand tie-up or partnership, and the event is three months down the road, I may
list approvals I have to make as a small task. But as we get closer it may become my big one
for the day.

SEVEN STEPS ON HOW TO KEEP YOUR PASSWORDS

SECURE- ECONOMIC TIMES
Learning:
1. ENABLE TWO STEP AUTHENTICATION: As is evident from the name, two-step
authentication adds a second layer of security to your login procedure. This means that
after you input a correct password, another password or pass code has to be provided to
access the website. The second password is accessible on an authenticator app website or
can be sent as a SMS to your smartphone. Even if someone does manage to steal your
password, he/she will not be able to use to your account without the second password. All
you have to do is enable it from settings.
2. USE PASSWORD VAULTS: Many will keep the same password for everything, but that
also makes you more vulnerable to hacking. This is where a password manager or vault
service comes into play. You only need to remember one password for the vault service
and it works across platforms. It can automate the process by auto-typing your login
information for the website you are visiting. Since you only need to remember one
password, you can keep a long, complex, un-hackable combination of letters, numbers
and characters as your password.
3. USE VIRTUAL KEYBOARDS WHERE POSSIBLE: A keylogger is software that
can record all keystrokes made on a keyboard. Keyloggers are usually hidden so that no
one gets to know that it is working in the background. A hacker can then access the saved
keylogs and identify your login details for any site you visited (including netbanking
passwords). Virtual keyboards are on-screen keyboards that work with your mouse -you
take the mouse pointer to the letter character you want to write and click on it to type that
letter. This makes it impossible for keylogging software to record your login details,
because all they see is a mouse click.
4. IS YOUR PASSWORD STRONG ENOUGH: The stronger your password, the harder
it is to crack. Strong passwords usually involve a combination of letters, numbers and
special characters. Microsoft provides a free tool called the Microsoft Password Checker,
all you need to do is enter your password in the text box and it will tell you if it is weak,
medium, strong or very strong. Typically, if you have different types of mixed characters
and a password length of at least 12 characters, it's a strong password. Use this strong
password for a password vault.
5. OUR TOP TIPS FOR BETTER PASSWORD SECURITY: Use at least 8-15
characters for password z Avoid using personal information such as last names, birthdays
or phone numbers. Change your password regularly -once every three months is
recommended. Don't use the same password for every site.
6. ACCESSING YOUR ACCOUNT ON A PUBLIC PC: It is not always possible to get a
secured Internet connection. There are times when every one of us has had to login to a
public network, be it at an airport, at a hotel and so on. The issue with public networks is
that they are open to everyone and because it is unencrypted. Make sure you select the
network as a public network in Windows network location setting -this automatically
stops anyone trying to connect to your computer over a local connection. Other way

around is to opt for a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service such as CyberGhost. VPN
encrypts your traffic and can even mask your location -anyone on a public network will
only see that you are on a VPN and not what you are doing. However, do keep in mind
that free VPN services offer limited functionality.
7. HAS YOUR PASSWORD BEEN HACKED: Some services help you determine
whether your password has ever been stolen, head to www.breachalarm.com and just
enter your email address!!! The site scans through various databases that have been
released by hackers to the public and checks if your email address is mentioned
anywhere. If it is, you get details on when and how many times your email id was
mentioned in a hacked database. The site also provides a service called email watchdog:
you register your email id (one email for free) to get notified if it appears again in any
leaked database in future.

TOP 3 CHARACTER TRAITS TO LOOK FOR IN YOUR NEXT

HIRE
Learning:
When it comes time to search for a new employee organizations apart from specialized skills
needed for a role, you need to think about what character traits might be the most important,
and how do you go about spotting them.
1. Positive Attitude: Do you want to work with a grouch: A job candidates attitude is a
major aspect you want to assess in an interview. One can change skill levels through
training, but we cant change attitude. the right kind of attitude goes a long way in
business and can make the difference between a positive team willing to pull all the stops
to make a business the best it can be, and one in which negativity is rife and people cant
wait to leave. Keep an eye out for job candidates that have approachable body language,
smile and laugh a lot, appear quite relaxed, and generally seem to have a glass is half
full outlook on life. Enthusiastic staff members will help to bring a team together, will
refuse to get discouraged, and will be more willing to learn on the job and do what it
takes to get things done. These types of workers contribute to a positive company culture
that benefits not just team members, but also customers.
2. Initiative: The autonomous worker: The right attitude alone does not, however,
guarantee a great hire. You also want to make sure that your candidate has the ability to
take initiative. Autonomous workers will be able to get their job done without being
micro-managed, and will also find other tasks to complete without needing to be told.
People with a self-monitoring personality type generally like to work independently
and efficiently, and will often be the ones to come up with innovative ideas or ways to
save money or increase sales. As an added benefit, self-motivation in employees is a very
valuable trait that can also tend to rub off on other staff members.
3. Flexibility Prepared for ever changing environments: Last but not least, you have to
keep an eye on the flexibility of your candidate. Adaptable team members can bring a lot
to a business, especially in small, growing companies where job roles tend to have to
expand and change over time as the firm gets bigger and more established. Versatile
employees also tend to have a higher level of problem-solving ability, and are more likely
to learn new technologies or come up with creative solutions for company problems.
