Half A Sixpence, a musical that debuted on the West End in 1963 and

on Broadway in 1965 boasts music and lyrics by David Heneker (Make

Me An Offer, Charlie Girl) and book by Beverly Cross (Boeing Boeing)
whose book, Kipps, is the basis for the show. It would later be adapted
to film in 1967. Half A Sixpence was written as a star vehicle for British
recording artist Tommy Steele. The plot revolves around an orphan
named Arthur Kipps who inherits a fortune and throughout the course
of the show, loses it. The song Shes Too Far Above Me is sung about
Arthurs love interest Ann, whom Arthur feels is too good for him. I
relate to this song because, I, and everyone, has had a feeling that the
person they want or love is to good for them and theres no way they
will return the feelings. This goes along with the shows theme, and
encourages Arthur to believe in himself rather than his money.
