Jepun

Jembatan Merah means Red Bridge.

Named so because it was the center of
many bloodshed events during the
Indonesia independence war, including
the battle of 10th November. When
Surabaya was under Dutch colonialism,
the Red Bridge area was a commercial
area and Jembatan Merah became the
only way road to connect Kalimas and
Surabaya Residency Building and
considered as the very important
facility especially for economics. That
is why up till now we can still see trade
centers around Jembatan Merah such
as Kya-kya and Jembatan Merah Plaza
Kya Kya is the Chinatown of Surabaya,
but nowadays people of various
ethnicities also live there. During
nighttime, a variety of Chinese,
Indonesian, and Arabic foods and
beverages are sold here. A lot of
festivals held by the government
usually take place here.
