An investigation of American Civil War

My research will focus on American Civil War. Why is American Civil
War important in the American history is the research question.
The American Civil War is a civil war in the United States fought
from 1861 to 1865 between the Union and the Confederate States
of America. The Union won the war, which remains the bloodiest in
the American history. (Wikipedia) There is a large amount of
information on the cause and outbreak of the war. I already know
that the war accelerated the progress of American Capitalism, which
makes America become one of the most powerful countries in the
world. But how? The information I found is too general for me to
understand. It is hard to get a clear mind of the influences of the
war. What make this war so special? Based on the information I
found my hypothesis is that the war ended slavery because in my
opinion, slavery impeded the development of a country dramatically.
I know the American Civil War is of great importance not only in
American history but also in the progress of the world history.
Nevertheless, my research will not go that far. I hope to focus on its
influences in the American history.
I not only want to know the exact reasons that make the war
significant in the American history but also find out both positive
and negative influences of the war. Besides, I want to investigate
how the war promoted the development of the Western America.
Another aim of the research is to know more about Abraham
Lincoln, who was one of the best presidents in the American history,
for his Homestead Act and The Emancipation Proclamation took a
vital part of the civil war. In the meantime, I would like to prove my
hypothesis by doing the research.
I will achieve these aims by looking for information on websites such
as Wikipedia, JSTOR and so forth using a computer. I will also go to
the library to find relevant books if necessary. I have learnt some
brief introduction of the war at school. In order to know more, I will
need information about America Civil War, Abraham Lincoln,
American Capitalism during the research. I think the research is
feasible because this war is well-known which means it will not be
difficult for me to find relevant information.
From my perspective, the research is important because it is
necessary for us to know every vital war in the history completely.
Moreover, one of the root causes of the war is slavery which I am
very interested in. As far as I know, this war ended slavery. Black
people made a great contribution to the success of the Union as well
as the development of America industry. However, ending slavery
did not end the racial discrimination. Even in the modern society,
the racial discrimination still exists. I expect my research can deliver
positive impacts of American Civil War, which can enable people to
see the advantage of ending slavery. I hope more and more people
can realize that if we end racial discrimination, our world can

become a better place just like the rapid development after ending
slavery. Last but not least, knowing the negative influences of the
war can remind people that so many soldiers and innocent people
died in the war. Wars are cruel. We should always remember
negative influences of a war to stop another one from happening.
With so many advantages we can get from this research, I think it is
necessary to conduct this research.
