How laughter can improve our vascular health?

Laughter is different from humor, it is the


physiological response to humor. Laughter
consists of two parts, the first one is a set of
gesture and the second one is the production
of the sound. Laughter also can boost our
moods, releases endorphines from our brain,
and boost our immune system.
Vascular system is also called circulatory
system, it is the bodys network of blood
vessels. Vascular system consists of veins,
capillaries, and arteries. The arteries and veins
carry blood throughout the body, not only delivering oxygen and nutrients
but also taking away waste matters from the bodys tissues. The
mechanism of the vascular system is that after
the blood pumped out from the heart,
arteries will deliver the blood thoughout
the body into capillaries, after that the
capillaries deliver oxygen and many
kinds of nutrients, finally the blood that lack
of oxygen is being brought to the lungs by vein
to
gain
oxygen again and carried back to the heart.
There are many risks that can cause vascular disease. Non-modified
factors that can cause vascular disease risks are family history, age, and
gender. Meanwhile, modified factors that can cause vascular disease risks
are hypertension, over-consumption of tobacco, physical inactivity, a
chronically stressful life, anxiety, and depression.
The chance of getting vascular disease can be reduced by laughter.
How can this happen? A study that have been done by Dr. Michael Miller
from University of Maryland shows that after volunteers watched a
stressful movies their blood vessel lining developed a potentially
unhealthy response called vasoconstriction, reducing blood flow. This
finding confirms previous studies, which suggested there was a link
between mental stress and the narrowing of blood vessels. However, after
watching the funny movie, the blood vessel lining expanded. This proves
that laughter can make our vascular system healthy.
The mechanism of this process is that after we laugh, we release of
beta-endorphins in the hypothalamus, it also release nitric acid that
caused blood vessels dilate and can prevent cholesterol plaque. Laughter
also maintains a healthy endothelium and reduces the risk of

cardiovascular disease, heart attack and stroke. When you laugh, the
blood flow increases and the blood pressure rises, but when you stop
laughing, blood pressure drops back to its base line. This relaxing effect
helps bring down blood pressure. This generates deeper breathing, which
in turn sends more oxygenated blood through the body.
There are some ways that can guide us to get a good laugh such as
smile more, surround ourself with people that can make us laugh, watch
funny movies, and not worrying about the sound of our laugh. So, to keep
our vascular system healthy we have to do exercise, east healthy food,
and get a good belly laugh everyday!
