Andhra Pradesh is endowed with varied agro-climatic conditions for growing variety of
horticulture crops like fruits, vegetables, spices, tuber crops, plantation crops, floriculture
etc. Andhra Pradesh is one of the leading producers of fruits and vegetables in the
country. It is gaining importance over traditional agriculture crops for its higher
attractive income and gainful employment .

5.49

About 13.35 lakh hectares are under various horticultural crops with an estimated
production of 70.42 lakh M. Tons & 1051 Million Coconuts (1999-2000). Department of
Horticulture is implementing various horticultural schemes to encourage the farmers in
cultivation of need based crops under fruits, vegetables, spices, Coconuts, Cashew and
oilpalm with a thrust on drip irrigation.

Drip irrigation is a technology for providing irrigation to plants through net work of pipes
directly to the root zone of the plants. Implementation of this programme was started
under Central Sector Scheme during 1992-93 with 100% Central assistance. From 199596, this programme is being implemented with 90:10 sharing basis between Govt. of
India and State Government. This scheme is being implemented in all the districts of
Andhra Pradesh. Since inception of the scheme from 1992-93, 52,764 Hec. Have been
covered under drip irrigation programme. The farmers are being provided with subsidy
on total cost of drip installation @ 50% of SC/ST/Women, small and marginal farmers
and 35% for other general category farmers not exceeding Rs.22,500/- per ha. And
Rs.16000/ - respectively, whichever is less Upto 4ha. Per beneficiary family.

Andhra Pradesh is recognised as the best potential State and pioneer in Oilpalm
cultivation which accounts for 60% of the Nations area under oilpalm and ranks first in

area and production. The main object is area expansion of oilpalm cultivation in the
identified potential mandals of (9) Coastal districts besides Khammam and Chittoor
districts of Andhra Pradesh to meet the growing demand for vegetable oils.
5.52

Subsidy pattern is Rs.15,500/- per Hectare as cultivation subsidy and Rs.5,400/- per
Hectare as plant material subsidy Upto 6 Hectares for oilpalm growing family. Since
inception of the scheme, a total area of around 30,451 hectares has been covered.
Farmers are also being encouraged to take up drip system to oilpalm crop at 50% subsidy
to S.C., S.T., SMALL/MARGINAL AND WOMEN FARMERS and 35% subsidy to
general category farmers on total cost to a maximum of Rs.7,400/- per hectare and
Rs.5,200/ - per hectare respectively whichever is less for a maximum extent of 4.00
hectares per beneficiary.

5.53

To encourage farmers in traditional flower crops cultivation 50% subsidy on cost of


cultivation limited to Rs.6,000/- per unit (1/10 Hectare) upto (2) units per individual is
being provided. To encourage and explore, export potential of floriculture units in
Andhra Pradesh, following incentives are given:

a)

20% of the fixed capital cost not exceeding Rs.20.00 lakhs per unit.

b)

Deferment/Tax holiday and Sales Tax limited to 135% of fixed capital in a


period of 14 years and

c)

25% rebate in power bill for three years period.

Improved and high yielding varieties of vegetables and onion seed are being supplied to
farmers on 50% subsidy on total cost of seed (OR) Rs.3,000/- whichever is less limiting
to 2.00 Hectares per beneficiary with preference to S.C., S.T.,S.F/M.F./ Women besides
Rythu Bazar farmers.
