Note that specific layers of the construction are not specified use
defaults constructions in ESBO and modify them to obtain given U values
(precision at the level of two decimal places is enough).
U = 0.12 W/mK
U = 0.1 W/mK
U = 0.15 W/mK
Glazing: Pilkington Optitherm S3 (6-15Ar-S(3)4) {Choose from glazing
database}
Frame:
U = 1.5 W/mK {only informative - U value for frame cannot be defined in
ESBO ! }
Width = 0.1 m {you need to calculate frame fraction to give correct input
into ESBO}
Psi = 0.05 W/mK {linear losses has to be specified under thermal bridges
on Building Tab}
Setpoint 20 C; Max. capacity 60 W/m
Setpoint 26 C; Max. capacity 60 W/m
1.4 l/sm from 8-18 mon-fri {flow defined on Room Tab, schedule on
Building Tab}
Heat recovery exchanger effectiveness: 85 % {defined on Building Tab}
Supply temperature 18 C
0.1 l/sm floor area always {infiltration is defined on Building Tab}
2 people (1 clo; 1.2 met) from 8-18 mon-fri
140 W from 8-18 mon-fri
Max power 6 W/m
Lighting is active from 8-18 mon-fri
Open new ESBO model by using the ESBO icon at the upper toolbar of IDA ICE (
). Start
modifying the model according to Table 1. Use the ESBO user guide [7]. If you follow it closely, you
will find most of the answers to your questions related to the model build-up. You should browse
through the user guide until page 67 during the exercise. Further chapters are not relevant at this
stage.
The parameters/settings not mentioned in Table 1 should just stay at their default values!
When your model is built proceed with following tasks:
1) Make a yearly simulation {see page 65 of [7], select requested output according to Figure 2, run the
Energy simulation with 100% of all loads, you need to specify a weather file for Energy simulation if
you cannot find the one for your location, download it from the internet database (use so called Test
Reference Year TRY files) see Figure 3} with ESBO of an office room facing south.
a) Evaluate energy performance {explore the Results Tab, especially the section called Detailed
Results}
2)
3)
4)
5)
b) Evaluate thermal indoor environment, air quality and daylight availability {explore the Results Tab,
especially the section called Detailed Results}
Make a calculation for a similar office room facing north.
Based on these two simulations, what is the energy performance of the building as a whole if you
consider that there will be 25 office modules for each orientation on each of three storeys of the
building?
How would you modify your model to account for heat loss from roof, deck and gables?
Experiment with the input e.g. to bring energy consumption to class 2020 and indoor climate to class II.
