Philosophers greeting among them should be take time, because win those who can run

the slowest.
Ludwig Wittgenstein
What I mean by modernism? Firstly it is related to the development of science and
technology. Three key words I'd like to mention concerning

this aspect: acceleration,

globalization and information flow. Acceleration covered all areas of life. Coercion to fastness
aligned almost all of us. And then we are asking ourselves if in all this rush, remains time for
thinking? Here it resonates in my mind a wonderful word of the philosopher Ludwig
Wittgenstein: philosophers greeting among them should be take time, because win those who
can run the slowest.
Here I want to stop and talk about the crisis of reason, the crisis of identity in general. The
triumphal march of reason brought many advantages, as for example brought to the religious
minorities rights that have not had before, led to the end of superstition and their consequences
(eg burning witches). It also led the development of legislation. These developments have
contributed to the formulation of human rights which are a great blessing for the world.
With these successes reason lost its modesty, because now, the center of human thinking is not
a single humanity in its common nature, but a man isolated in his individual life, this isolation
contributed to the fragmentation of society and spread again over the human being. Today the
existence of this topic has become a problematic one. Who I am has become the most common
question?. Regarding this situation it is easy to understand why religion has become again strong
and why the intercultural wars are acute. There is not a crisis of culture in which culture would
be destroyed but rather a crisis of different identities being in a permanent competition. People
are suffering from a crisis of identity, of oneself, because the postmodern society requires them
to assert with any price, seeking to promote their personalities on the highest economic, political
or cultural areas. More and more young people declare themselves indifferent to their traditions
being responsive to traditions from abroad or so-called the import traditions.
This reckless chase after social advancement or material acquirement transforms man into a
slave of a daily routine which generates stress and fatigue. Todays man is the slave of the
computer games and of the commercial images that prevent him from a freely thinking.
Reading, the development of imagination, meditation are less present in our lives. It is put
forward the individual value and is abandoned the person. The feature of the postmodern man
lies in his interior imbalance- this determines sometimes persons to abandon the stressful
conditions of life and to do away with themselves.
