Jackie Treatment

Abstract
The case study of Jackie has been analyzed from a positive psychology perspective. The positive
psychology viewpoint is the science that describes what an individual needs for a good life.
Based upon the positive psychology viewpoint the needs of the clients are accessed and on the
need assessment the treatment is planned. Positive physiotherapy treatment approach will be
useful to build clients strength, emotions and to increase meaning of life. Jackie strengths are
identified and the suggestions for improvement are given to Jackie. In the positive activity
intervention the optimism approach is recommended to Jackie and this approach will give hope
to Jackie to change the lifestyle and to fight for the happiness.

Jackie Treatment
Part-I
The positive psychology viewpoint is the science of what is needed for a good life. The
positive psychology viewpoint is based on the faith that people want to live meaningful lives, in
searching for what is beneficial for them and to make improvement in their life regarding the
love, work and play (Seligman, L et al, 2006).
In the given scenario for the well-being and for the satisfaction of Jackie life, five
elements are necessary. These elements are emotions, engagement, relationship, meaning, and
accomplishment. At times when Jackie was satisfied and happy with her life, she was involved in
different activities as she gives proper time to childrens, the affection she had for her place of
job and additionally she interact with the people at tennis club but in recent times she has
numerous spells in which she cries and detaches herself due to depression. The reasons for
depression were due to disengagement from day to day activities and also due to the ankle injury.
There is a need to adopt a positive physiotherapy approach this will help to build a client
strength, positive emotions and to increase the meaning of life and to foster happiness (Rashid,
2008). This approach will relief Jackie from depressing whereas the approach will be consists of
14 sessions and the session will identify & address the strengths, love, gratitude and other
aspects of the better treatment. The positive physiotherapy treatment approach for the depression
clients resulted in changing the lifestyle of the patients, increased in happiness and fewer
symptoms of depression (Seligman et al., 2006).
By applying positive physiotherapy approach we can relief Jackie from depression and
this method help out to meet the needs of competence, belongingness, and autonomy and the
positive physiotherapy approach (Ryan et al, 2006).

Jackie Treatment
Part-II
The concept of good life includes three types the pleasant life, the engaged life and the
meaning full lives. In the case of Jackie, she exhibits all of three types of her life in different
perspectives. According to the Seligman's theory pleasant life consist of positive emotions and
seeking the skills to extend and intensify pleasures. Jackie enjoyed pleasure at times when she
interacts with friends and individuals who play tennis and share a common interest with
colleagues on job.

In the engaged life, one focuses on the strengths and weakness of his/her

personality and to engage in relationships, sports, love, and parenting to use them as much as
possible. She was living an ideal life as she cherished her employment, spends time with children
and friends by playing tennis but after the ankle injury she refused to work on cash counter and
stopped playing tennis. As a result, her life does not reflect that she is happy and satisfied but in a
depression.

In the meaning full lives one try to utilize the character strength for to serve

something that you believe is larger than just yourself (King, 2001). In the current scenario, its
not possible for Jackie to fulfill any task and to enjoy any activity. There is a need to give
direction to Jackie daily routine as now she spends less time in family activities and lives in
isolation.
Signature Strength
Jackie finds happiness from his daily routine that she made a part of her life, her kids,
work and playing tennis. She enjoys interacting with the people and these are all the strengths of
Jackie. She lost the potential and her skills due to an ankle injury and its not possible for her to
live life as she thinks. Even though she recovered from the injury very soon but she gains weight
and all the strengths turn into the weakness. She needs direction from a psychologist and there is

need to refocus on the abilities. Jackie enjoys a good character with a number of strengths but
she has to adopt an approach to restore her happiness.
At first, there is a need that Jackie should spend a good time with her family as this will
motivate her to focus on the surroundings. Secondly, there is need to get back into sports again as
she can lose the weight easily and once the weight will come off and all the activities will slowly
come into play. Once she succeeds with the first two steps than she has to focus on her job. Her
occupation is something that she needs to change to improve his lifestyle. It is obvious that the
effect of the change will give her push to change her impression of life and the things that are
critical to her to do.
The term flow is defined as the engaging in work activities and facing challenges by
undertaking series of goals and continues doing the task with feedback about progress and based
upon feedback redoing the task in a correct way. This is subjective term and flow is always
defined with doing activities (Nakamura, J. 2002).
In the context of the case, Jackie flow uses to be going to the office and actively involved
with her job as she works in the cash counter, spending quality time with her children and
playing tennis with friends. Soon after from the injury of ankle she isolated her in a room and to
change the job from cashier to the inventory room refuses to take part in the game and even she
did not spend time with friends and with the children. She enjoyed life as a cashier and after she
has changed her pattern of living she has not sleep well, crying sessions and facing challenges in
finding the activities she used to enjoy.

Positive Activity Interventions
Positive action interventions (PAIs) offer a protected, low cost and a self-regulated way to
deal with depression and in by this method individual can hope that they can get relief from
depression if by themselves if they do not have access to therapy treatment (Mary, AL. 2011). It
will be adequate to recommend a particular action that is a positive mediation (PAI). Positive
movement intercession can be the best approach for her so she can be capable of dealing with
depression. This type of treatment mentally won't totally convey every issue to an end anyway, it
is critical to offer a particular and positive intervention activity that will help to maintain a
positive daily routine as she lived before the ankle injury.
I would recommend him to practice optimism as she has good life characteristics and
strengths to implement for her happiness. This approach will give her hope that she is doing the
right job to get her life back on the happiness road. The best way to build a foundation of your
life is to effectively utilize the strengths on the right time and thats the right time for her to deal
with her depression.
The change is very difficult to accept from psychology perspective as the lifestyles of individuals
are based upon the concept of full life. When we change things many issues can raise how to
start and keep up. In the case context by focusing on the strengths of Jackie and keeping in mind
the ankle injury its very difficult for Jackie to align all the aspects of life and due to lack of
understanding its impossible for her to get relief from depression on her own. The positive
psychology approach is really helpful for the clients who are facing depression problem and this
will also direct Jackie to manage her life and motivates her to take the first step to change his life
pattern.
