To kick off of our Fall 2016 semester we had

our SHRM Club Ultimate Biannual Social at
Manoa Valley Park on Labor Day. Not only
was the weather perfect, but we had tons of
new and prospective members come join our
fun filled day. Rashawn Wong, our Director of
Student Affairs introduced the first game,
Whats your name?, the object of the game
was to get to know others and go undefeated
to the end of the game by winning every rock
paper scissors match. Even though bystanders
at the park were probably confused why a
group of young adults were screaming their
Names it didnt stop us from having fun getting to
know everyone. After we got to know each others names, the executive board and members
were split up into 4 groups where they had to
make up a SHRM cheer or dance. The group
cheers varied from Beyonc reenactments, Justin
Timberlake mashups and a group doing backflips
to win it all! For lunch we had food catered from
a SHRM favorite, Ginas bbq. But the fun didnt
end there, after lunch the members played Sham
Battle which was just a little practice for Super
Clubs Day in November!

I love how outgoing

and crazy everyone is
in this club

Another biannual social with all nine of

the Shidler business clubs was a week
after Recruitment week this semester.
Back to Business bowling allows everyone to get to know one another with
great music and a friendly competition in
bowling. This semester IBC switched it up
and included a President's dance off, they
split up the presidents into two teams
played Beyonce and they had to improvise. Our very own Jessica Higashi was on
the winning team! But we all werent surprised because she always has the best
dance moves for Super Clubs Day. On top
of winning the dance competition, we
even got to see some familiar faces that
graduated last semester! Our previous
Director of Student Affairs, Gannon Chibana and previous Director of Fundraising, Evon Le both stopped by and updated us about how the post undergrad life
was like. Its always great to see alumni!
After this fun night of bowling, dancing
and food we definitely got to get to know
the new members of SHRM and members
of other clubs as well.

The first official social of the semester

was the Womens Volleyball game vs.
Pepperdine. Not only were the stands
packed because we were playing Pepperdine, but it made it even more interesting because their head coach used
to coach at University of Hawaii at
Manoa years ago! The first set was back
and forth, then UH demolished them in
the next two, winning in three sets.
During halftime, Rashawn Wong, our
Director of Student Affairs was chosen
for the halftime contest. Lucky for him it
was a dancing halftime to win a trip to
Vegas! Although he didnt win he definitely put on a great show for our members.

Trying to catch the good weather for

our second social we went to SHRMs
all time favorite, Sherwoods beach. For
most of the day members hung out on
the beach, played football and got a
good tan in. Members even mentioned
not going to the beach since summer
because the weather had been so crazy so everyone was happy to see blue
skies and sunshine blaring down on
us. We were also spoiled with seasoned chicken, teriyaki burgers, and
even a camping favorite, smores from
our Director of Student Affairs, Rashawn Wong. It was a great day in the
sun plus yummy food!

This semester our Director of Professional Development, Emily Arraki wanted to try something thats never been done before for
SHRM. Instead of just having a traditional
classroom setting presentation for a workshop she designed it similar to speed dating,
but with four different professionals. We had
Kristen Inouye to talk about recruitment, Tanner Ubo to talk about HRIS, Arlene Odagiri to
talk about Employee Relations and lastly
Janele Paloo to talk about Compensation and

Benefits. This was a great hit for all members to hear more about the different parts
of Human Resources and what they do on
a day to day basis. Also some tips if a member already knew they wanted to go into a
certain field. Each professional had so much
experience in their field which reassured
our members how great HR was to go into
to. Who wouldve knew that HRIS can
sometimes only have one or two people in
that department!

I never knew there

were so many parts
of HR!

Every fall semester the SHRM Aloha

Chapter gets invited back to the Waikiki Hoolaulea to be clock captains
during the night long event. There
are several food vendors, clothing
vendors, and performances going
on all night. Some favorites we saw
on the street were Leonards Bakery,
Wow Wow Lemonade, and Giovannis Shrimp Truck. As block captains our job was to make sure nothing was unsafe or going wrong before, during and after the event.
Luckily nothing went wrong and we
even got to get a free meal and
drink for our hard work! We cant
wait to go back next Fall.

On September 30th Art after Dark

had another event with the theme
Honolulu In Deisgn they showcased a vintage local feel and incorporated Surfjacck with music, art,
and more! Our members at this
event were in charge of putting
wrist bands on people coming inside the museum, working check in
and getting input for surveys from
people in line. After the rush of people checking in we also got a meal
and drink voucher. Our SHRMies
finished the night with great food,
looking at new art, and listening to
great music.

To start off the company tours this semester,

Director of Corporate Relations, Ryan Silao
chose ProService a well known company
within the Human Resources Industry. Not
only was the staff very kind and showed us
around the entire facility, but even decided
to help with a group mock interview! With
mock interview coming up at the end of October this was a great chance for members
who have never done an interview or just
wanted to brush up on their skills to get a
chance to. As always practice makes perfect
as our SHRMies aspire to be the best at interviews!

I really enjoyed the

mock group interview!
